So, onto screen planning.

As you can see from the pics I have plenty of natural light coming in but I've bought some blackout shades that I hope will do the trick and I am running x10 for lighting. There are a total of 5 recessed lights above the viewing area (last picture you can see 2 on either side of where the screen will be on the wall). The 5th light is dead center of the viewing area and will be right in the path of the pj....so i put it on a seperate x10 controller so that while all other lights will just dim, the center light will turn completely off.

I also will have 2 dimmable sconces behind the bar.

Here are my variables:

Seating Distance: 10-11 ft
PJ: Epson 8350
PJ distance: 12ft
Desired Screen size: 109"
Running Verizon Fios HD and ps3

I'll be painting the ceiling a flat black and the walls and flooring will be in the tan family.

PJ will be primarily used for sports and movies.

I have done some research on DIY screens and I think I am going to go with the Silver Fire v2.1 3.0 screen paint. I'll be spraying each coat on also....

Questions:

Is this the most appropriate screen for my application?

What type of primary layers do I need under the SF coats? Just kilz2? grey primer under kilz2?

Is there anything else that anyone would suggest I do in this room to optimize my picture/experience?

Thanks in advance.

ok, so now after doing MORE research, it's looking more and more like the Black Widow might be the better/easier way to go for my DIY screen. It sounds like the picture will be just as good and there fewer ingredients to screw up.

Anyone?

man.......it's been a while. Had our first child along the way so it's definitely taken away from my free time. Anyways, built the frame around the screen finally and am started on a few other finishing touches. I'll be starting to build a THT sub this winter biggrin.gif. Can't wait!

Everything has been great so far and I've used a window rattler AC unit for the summers but a buddy of mine is getting rid of a mini-split so that should fit in nicely!
