Ir bass,
Which input and type of cable are you using? Also, if you hit the [Display] button on your TV remote, what resolution is the signal?

Cheers!

Ok, this is interesting. After I updated the firmware yesterday, I went through and checked all my settings because it has that message that "some settings may have changed" or whatever it says.

I saw that my White Balance settings were changed. I had all 6 of those settings on zero, and when I looked, the Red and Blue gain were both on -5, and each of the 3 bias settings were on -1. I know for sure I did not set those values.

Also, Auto Light Limiter was set to 'Low', and I never had that on. Anyway, just passing it on for those who might want to check that their settings are what they want them to be if you updated with the recent firmware.

the Input i use the normal one i don't the name, maybe cable/antenna.

Some channels are STD, some 480i, some 720P and a few channels are 1080p and 1080i.

1080p and 1080i has a good quality image but samsung still doing better, i don't know why, but this is happening.

The subdivision that i leave already have time warner, so i just plug the tv directly , i don't have the DVR.
But I don't have this problem with my samsung 32" that i got it in 2007 this why i think the tv is not tuned well or like i said before sony is not the same anymore.

The ps3 works fine, with blue ray and games, but to normal channels i was expecting more from this tv.

Hi everyone,
Very impressed with the picture quality (2D) of this set. Not too impressed with the 3D. To me it seems that the 3D effect starts at the display screen and goes back (sort of like looking through a window). I am not seeing many effects where I feel like reaching out to grab something that is floating in front of me.
For instance I stoppped by a LG demo unit at Costco and there was a loop playing that was an IMAX Into the Deep teaser that had this large Deep Sea cod floating around. It turns and seems to come right out of the screen and you want to reach up and grab it. (It's not just me because I stood by and watched other people's reactions and person after person would reach out in the same manner - actually quite funny to watch).
My set just seems to be three dimensional from the panel back.
Kind of dissapointing - but I haven't been able to find the Blue Ray IMAX disc that was on demonstration...........

Other than that I also had the DHCP Wireless issue with my set up.
I tried all forms of authentication which all failed as my set woud not pick up an address from my router. I had to manually set my address and DNS servers, etc. Not a big deal but could be frustrating to those who are networking challenged.

3D depth or pop out is all based on the content and how that director wanted the specific scene to be portrayed. For example Avatar on 3D Blu-ray looks like you are looking threw a window whilst Resident Evil has plenty of depth with some major pop out thrown in.

I believe the disc is IMAX Deep Sea with the cod that sticks out the screen.
Yes it is one of those IMAX releases and after reading the various threads on 3D favorites it looks like this is one of the better to show the "pop" of 3D displays. Unfortunately my local shop is out of stock on this item so I have to wait for more.

Has anyone tried the web browser that comes with this unit?
As far as I can see it only allows you to browse Sony's site.
I haven't been able to find a way to break out to "Google" something.
But then again the printing is so small and my eyes so crappy that I might be missing something.

After you have loaded the browser, press the "Options" button on the remote to see browser extended options.

Along this thread....
Has anyone tried the iPhone remote app?
What I find very odd is the keyboard input disappears when you register the device (kdlhx729).
This is the whole point of using this remote so you don't have to hen peck the letters from that absurd interface that comes with the TV when you want to use the web interface.

Seen one video of it and it doesn't look the same as on the Sony site, same for the EX720 it looks grey online, in person it looks black. Haven't been able to see the HX in person im taking a calculated gamble.

on another note: Can anybody share their calibration settings? I find myself tweaking the settings everyday and I can't come up with something I'm satisfied with. Sometimes I feel like the colors are more "washed out" compared to that of Samsung TVs (something I really liked about them were they just seemed to "pop" more).

Any suggestions?

i went thru 3 samsungs c7000 d7000 d8000 There horrible... the flashlighting is terrible and you cannont watch a dark movie PERIOD!!! this tv is amazing

I just picked mine up from the local Sony Store for $949.99.
It's my first real HDTV purchase.
The only thing I've noticed is slight flashlighting at the bottom corners. Very slight. Think the corner things on a photo in an album.
Is this something that I should tolerate? The rest of the features (so far) seem to work just fine, and the rest of the picture is fine. What are the odds a replacement would have minor (or worse!) flashlighting?
Should I hold off for a week and see if it gets worse/better?

edit: Some screen bleeding/cloudiness too, i suppose. Nothing serious enough for me to realize it. After some reading I'll tweak with the power settings, and see what happens. I may just tolerate it. This tv is awesome, and I prefer not to risk swapping for one with serious problems.

It's so funny to see people posting on here stating how much Samsung is better. Why aren't you on a Samsung forum praising those sets and leave the forum discussion to the topic at hand..

Just pulled the trigger on Thursday for a KDL55HX729. Super excited. Got a deal here at Future Shop for $1999 got the set, a free stand, a 160GB PS3, 3 pairs of 3D glasses (the 250 models) and Harry Potter 7 part 1 and 2 on bluray 3D. I pick up the TV next Wednesday, so I am super excited to get it all set up. I have copied and pasted a bunch of your TV settings so I can try to optimize it as soon as I get it set up.

got the 55 this weekend and have played with it for awhile. Everything is working great and the picture is amazing (have panny and hitachi plasmas). i'm confused about the MotionFlow. Something i read said that you should use "Smooth" for sports, and
"Clear1" for everything else. i don't see much of difference. Can anybody describe what the two settings do?

This excerpt from the current FlatPanel Review explains it:

The MotionFlow system now incorporates two different systems; frame interpolation that inserts new frames and scanning backlight that improves response time. The latter system is definitely a great addition but the first system is undesirable. Fortunately, Sony let users use the scanning backlight system without using frame interpolation by setting the MotionFlow setting to Clear Plus.

i have the hx929 and clear plus seems to look the best try it ......it will dim the picture somewhat so you might want to turn up the backlight a bit.. if in a bright room ... i guess personal preference though
post #265 of 714
just picked this TV up yesterday for a great price. However it has was seems to be a haze at the top center of the screen. It will not go away and is only seen on white backgrounds. The place where I purchased this set does not have any in stock so I had to call Sony, they are sending me another TV. Other than that, the picture quality on this set is great

I ended up pulling the trigger on this TV and can confirm that both my Mac Mini and PS3 have 1:1 pixel mapping over HDMI. The Mac Mini was detected automatically and is set to "1080p" in Display preferences with zero overscan on the slider.

The Display setting in question is "Full Pixel".

Sorry, but I must ask again. I have minor flashlighting in the bottom corners. Is this something I should swap it over? Is flashlighting an inevitability?
