Troubleshooting Intel HD Graphics HDMI blank screen flashes on HP 2509b LCD?

EDIT: Well, nevermind. I returned the LCD since I couldn't find any way to get it to work over HDMI without the picture blanking out. HP support was beyond useless.

I'm trying to set up a new HP Pavilion G6 laptop running Windows 7 x64 with an i3-380M and Intel HD Graphics connected to an HP 2509b LCD with HDMI. With the VGA connection I don't have any issues, but when connected with HDMI, the screen frequently flickers to black (goes completely blank) for many seconds. This happens multiple times within a 5-10 minute period.

It happens while browsing, while navigating Explorer windows, when running Media Center and when trying to play Netflix.

I tried switching to a basic desktop theme, which is supposed to disable Aero, but it didn't solve the problem.

Tried different cables, no difference.

Tried an HDMI to DVI adapter going into the LCD DVI input, and I still had the same problem (maybe worse - once the screen OSD showed a "signal lost" message, even though the Desktop was clearly visible.)

I have the latest HP Intel HD Graphics drivers (8.15.10.2279) and the latest drivers for the LCD.

I previously had connected the laptop to a Sony 40" 1080P LCD TV and had no such issues at all.

When I first switched from VGA to HDMI, I had to use a custom setting to avoid overscan correction (1920x1080, 32 bit, 60Hz). The default Timing Standard was set to GTF, but other options were: CVT, CVT-RB, CEA 861 B. Other than the overscan setting, my settings were the same as the defaults. With the HDMI to DVI connection, I didn't use a custom setting, but I still had the same screen blanking problems.

I tried to turn off all auto options in the LCD menu, such as Auto-Switching and Dynamic Contrast, but that made no difference.

Is there some utility I can use to troubleshoot the problem? Is there some recommended Custom Resolution and Timing to avoid screen blanking with Intel Graphics HDMI output on this type of LCD?

I would like to get it working on the HDMI connection without the screen blanking multiple times every few minutes. If it's a problem with the LCD, I need to figure out if the HDMI port is defective or generally incompatible with Intel Graphics, so I can decide whether to try to exchange it or try a different model.

Thanks for your advice.

I personally use 22 to 26 inch 1920 x 1080 LCD tvs/monitors for monitors. I use a Samsung T240HD at the moment. I think your choices are Samsung, LG and Viewsonic. The 1920 x 1200 tvs/monitors seem to have dissapeared.

Thanks for your suggestion. Any ideas on a utility to test and confirm that the HDMI on this screen is bad?

I just tried some more settings, disabling all Power Saving and Sleep features in the LCD and Intel Graphics settings. That still didn't help.

I took the laptop out and connected it to my Sony LCD TV with HDMI again an ran it for quite a while, testing all similar activities that blank out the screen on the HP LCD and there were no problems at all on the Sony. The picture signal was clear and continuous.

Searching, I found a few references to similar flicker to black or screen blanking out problems with this screen. Some of the comments said that this started happening after a year of use. This screen is brand new, but I'll have to check the manufacturing date. I'm going to call HP and see if they have any suggestions to get it working. Otherwise, I think I'll have to take this one back to the store.
