Ahh...I somehow didn't process the part about 50" or larger TV, since I was thinking how the Thread Starter was, indeed, looking for a 42" plasma. With Samsung 43" and LG 41.6" (42"), there are no 1920x1080p versions, just 1024x768p.

Though I could be wrong about this, my guess is that it was to help on moving resolution back before they had full 720p refresh at 60hz. You remember how 600mhz subfield drive being touted a couple years back?
