Unfortunately, your best bet is still to run a secondary Analog L/R pair from your source to the AVR. It's a stupid limitation that has no reason to exist, but it is what it is. For things like a cable/satellite STB, running the analog line avoids the problem (with the 3312) of using the optical and accidentally sending AC3 or DTS to zone 2, which will just result in white noise.

[Thank-you jdsmoothie for your help with the subwoofer calibration...the second time I did it, it changed the distance from 21 to 13, and the volume level might actually be a little low for me now...we'll see. The trim was about +5db.]

I have a Samsung BD player connected via hdmi to the sat/cable input. I put in the latest Star Trek movie (5.1 Dolby TrueHD), and it started playing in Stereo. The BD player's info says it's playing TrueHD Dolby 5.1. I went to Source Select and confirmed Input Mode and Decode Mode are set to Auto.

I then went to Audio Adjust, and Stereo was the default. I changed it to PLIIx Cinema, and that is what the on-unit display showed. I changed it to multi-channel, and that was shown on the display too.

Why did it not automatically detect the TrueHD? How do I get it to play that way?

When I'm playing iTunes through the Denon, I see the song info on my TV screen and it shows "Play/Pause" (center button) "Track" (upper and lower arrows) and "Exit" (left arrow) in the bottom of the screen, but I can't seem to get the Play/Pause or Track to do anything. However, when I hit the left (exit) arrow it stops playing and takes me back to a previous menu. Is it possible to go forward or back or pause / play AirPlay using the Denon remote? (My iMac is in a different room)

I wouldn't think the Denon remote would control the iMac.

However, if you have an iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad, you can use the free Remote.app to control playback in your iMac through Wifi.

There is an Android app that also controls your iTunes library remotely.

The fact that it is showing you PLII Cinema is telling you that it is receiving a stereo signal. Go into Bd player and select the appropriate setting. You also want to select Bitstream over pcm so it will show up on your avr display as True HD Dolby.

The BD player's settings were indeed set to PCM. Changed to Bitstream, and Kapla! Success!

Thanks.

The 3xxx series cannot pass HDMI to Zone 2, however, any of the Zone 2 models can set the Amp Assign speaker posts to "Front B" to pass the same HDMI audio playing to the Front A speakers (as noted in the post you quoted).

I am just trying to find a fix for this problem I keep having- Randomly when I am done with airplay the receiver will completely lock up. It shows the last song played and refuses to do anything unless I unplug the power.

I already tried the MP reset and it happened again the same night after that. I am so frustrated, this is one of the main reasons I bought the 1912.

I read in a few posts where people have experienced the same issue, but have not seen any fixes ( My firmware is up to date).

I am about to throw this stupid thing out

need help...just bought 2112 two weeks ago...
Had hdmi plugged into 'sat/cbl " to samsung e8000, was working fine until i turned it on today. I got picture but no sound. After trying everything I moved hdmi to "bd" and picture and sound work perfect. What can I check to fix sat/cbl.

^^
Might have just been a loose connection, otherwise it's likely other devices will work fine with that input.

When finished with Airplay, try backing all the way out of the sub menus to ensure the NET/USB source is no longer active. Are you able to turn OFF the source? You might also want to try setting "Network Standby" to OFF if not using that feature.
I use the network standby feature, once the system is locked up you cannot back out of anything.

The next time I finish using it I will immediately back out of the Net/USB input and see if that makes a difference.

fwiw...

it is a limitation that is purely a financial choice by the cem's... probably a wise one, as it would add significant cost for a feature that would be used by a small minority...

it is not a limitation of hdmi...

Hi, could somebody tell me if it is possible to turn off " Airplay" on a 2312, as i was playing around with remote, caught the airplay button, & as my son had his ipod on in his bedroom, it connected & came through on full volume.
Thanks for any advice.

Set "Network Standby" to OFF.

How is the sound quality of the 1712 vs something like a 3312 or 2312?

Or how about the older models like the 2809 or 3808?
I am having a problem with my AVR-1712, where some buttons on the remote are not enabled while watching a movie. For example, I press the Menu or the CH Level buttons on the remote, but nothing happens. This has occurred several times while watching movies in PLII (networked via an Xbox from my HTPC). Other than this disabled button glitch, the movies seem to play fine.

The only fix I have found is this: hit the button for selecting sources, view the sources, and then hit the return button. Then magically the Menu and CH Level buttons are enabled. I am wondering if anyone else has run into this sort of glitch, where buttons on the remote that should be enabled, for some reason are not enabled?

The Denon remote is a preprogrammed remote with the abilty to control other devices. If you want to control the AVR itself you must first press the "AMP" button.

I have never tried to use the remote for anything but controlling the receiver. But you think the remote could somehow on it's own switch from the AMP mode? I will do some testing to see if that is the case. If the solution is simply to press the AMP button when this situation occurs, before trying to press the Menu/CH Channel buttons, I can live with that. Thanks.

I currently own a Yamaha V663. I am deciding whether or not to get the Denon AVR-2112CI. I am happy with my V663, but I would like a bit more options. I am worried that I may regret the purchase if I do decide to upgrade.

Is there a question that I am missing?

Check page 1 of this forum. You will find a detailed description and features of all 12 series Denon Avr's. Also if you phone some online Dealers like Electron Expo, J&R and AV Science you will get a substantial discount.

Got it working! Last question on this topic: can I adjust the aspect ratio of the video input? The tv comes in widescreen mode and looks very non-HD...

Try Input Setup/Video and scroll down to aspect. Also check your source and Tv Settings.

I am a refugee from the Onkyo TX-SR707 thread. My TX-SR707 just "died" (no sound from the speakers) 5 months after the warranty expired.

I am considering the AVR2312CI or AVR2112CI. The AVR2112CI is cheaper but I like the HDMI input in front to attach my videocamera.

I got burned (figuratively) by the Onkyo because of a (now) known hardware problem with them.

Are there any known hardware issues with the AVR2312CI or AVR2112CI?

Thanks.
Aloke
^^
The two known outstanding issues with some 2312CI units are listed in post #4 of this thread. Note all of the new XX13 models include a front HDMI jack.
Thanks for the reply. The XX12 models are much discounted compared to the new unreleased XX13.

I can't wait for XX13. The puny sound through my TV speakers is driving me up the wall.

PS: Does Denon monitor this AVS forum? or is there a different forum to communicate with Denon engineers?
^^
It's a public forum so anyone is able to monitor the threads and to communicate with Denon you can call the Denon CSR line.
I was wondering where the responses from Denon in Post # 4 have been collected from.
