The **OFFICIAL** Denon AVR-XX12 Model Owner's Thread - Page 383

yah i read that in the faq...ill try that first, but that means i have to plug it directly into the tv so i can see the damn thing, haha.

not sure if this is related, but when i was trying to get the bray to connect, all i got was 'no signal detected' displayed on my tv. i had the denon onscreen gui on, but it would flash on and off...like every few seconds. it would stay on, then go away for a sec, then come back...until i turned the bray off. then it stayed on the screen...

weird?

Uh yeh ... true that.

Also, try replacing the HDMI cable connecting the BDP to the AVR as that could be causing the problem (doesn't matter that it works when connected directly to the TV ... remember .. HDMI can be finicky.

Yes, of course they are ... which is why a number of the firmware updates have involved improving network capability, to include the most recent updates to the 2312CI/3312CI.

JD,
I have been trying to scroll down on the first page using avs app on iphone to see your change logs and it kept crashing Do you know what this upgrade include? Thanks.

The only information provided was that the latest firmware "update" provided improvements to the network capability.

I need to delete my account information from a 1912, is there an easy way? I'm sorry if I missed it some where. Any help wold be great.

The AVR only provides the capability to "log in" to your Pandora account. Any changes to your account must be made via a PC.

Again ... possibly a defective cable or the "Deep Color Output" setting.

Seems to work correctly now. I just have it switched to ON 24/7. I think I'll try standby and see if that works as well. In either case, glad it's actually working. I got used to having no subwoofer, forgot what I was missing.

Can anyone with slightly better connections give me a hand?
I have called Denon customer support twice as well as calling 3 service centers.

I am still unable to get a answer on if there are any updates available to get applied to my 1712 and what they fix. Specifically if they fix the color range issue and if the 1712 has ever had it.

I don't have a bluray player not ran through my computer so I can be sure where my color range problem is happening.

If anyone with a 1712 would be able to test this that would be helpful. I just need to know if its passing BTB and WTW.

And if anyone is able to get in contact with someone that actually knows about firmware updates I would be thrilled.

If 3 different service centers have confirmed there is no service bulletin for the 1712, then take their word for it. Also, in a previous post you confirmed there was no issue.

If you prefer not to keep the sub on 24/7, getting the sub trim closer to 0db after running AUTO SETUP will result in a stronger sub signal from the AVR.

It does. With test patterns (downloadable at AVS) via a NeoTV 550 into the Denon AVR-1712 I can see video level 2 through 253. The 1712 serial starts with 20335 however talking with a Denon rep he stated... I'm not aware of any firmware updates for the 1712. Whether he is correct or not who knows...

I was told they didn't know rather than simply there has not been one issued. If that's what they mean it would make more sense. I kinda felt it was.. but the more I mess around with stuff the more confused I get due to being able to change what color range shows depending on brightness/contrast settings of my video card.
Thank you for the reply.

Thanks, I guess I simply read too much into the wording. Everyone was saying they don't know rather than there is no firmware updates.

If you go to the Online Support sign in and click on Ask A Question you should get a definitive answer emailed to you within a day or two. The people who answer the questions are Denons Tech experts.

What would be the most effective way for me to contact Denon to request a firmware change so that, when playing music tracks from an attached Apple device the receiver's tv osd shows remaining track time, rather than or as an alternative to, elapsed time? The Pioneer receivers do this, my 1912 does not. Thanks.

I am exchanging a Yamaha RX-A710 ($650 MSRP) for a Denon AVR-2312CI ($850 MSRP). I know the Denon is one model step up.

I never really setup the Yamaha completely because of conversion bugs and Analog - HDMI HDCP errors. Yamaha confirmed defect. This is the 3rd Yamaha receiver full of problems out of the box. When I bought my Denon AVR-3803, it was an exchange from a defective RX-V2300. Previously had a bad RX-V596. Both had bass management defects where bass wasn't working right. They were different problem though.

Now this RX-A710 has problems in the video conversion circuit. I dont' know, I may just give up no Yamaha completely after this. Last 3 receivers were defective out of the box. Previously had good RX-V793, RX-V995 and RX-V2095.

When I had the last defective Yamaha, the RX-V2300, I exchanged to the Denon AVR-3803 ($1199 MSRP). After doing so, the AVR-3803 had better sound quality than both the previous RX-V2095( $1699 MSRP) and the RX-V2300 ($999 MSRP).

Yamaha has been raved for great sound quality here lately but I don't know if there's as many audiophiles now as there was. So many people are more concerned over inferior, lossy sounding formats over Networks than uncompressed and HD sound formats. Seems a sign of the times now unfortunately.

Anyhow, if anyone had a AVR-3803 or AVR-3805 (which are similar), is the sound quality of the AVR-2312CI pretty close. I'm hoping so.

Thanks

IDK, but most people I see on AVSForum are intersted in HD Audio, especially in my favorite hang out in the HTPC section where most if not all are getting info on codecs to install to allow for it because it isn't native in Win7.

I've only had an HK for a long time and a Sony for a stint so I could decode dts when I got a DVD Player back in 1996. That went until 2009 but for the last 5 years or so the volume knob didn't work. The Denon AVR-889 I got in early 2009 worked flawlessly until my wife wanted to re_configure the family room and I think I caused its current issue with HDMI connectivity jostling it around too much. I've never had a Yamaha but my son does and AFAIK it works well. That said, my Denon is the best receiver I've had.

My understanding is that the AirPlay feature on the XX12 play only audio, not video, from Apple devices.

Why this limitation? Is it possible/likely that Denon will add video AirPlay via a firmware update at some point?

I am waiting for the details on the XX13 to see if this is added in the upcoming model. Otherwise the 2312 is perfect for me.

- correct...

- apple hasn't licensed it to anyone...

- slim to none, and slim just left town...

- re: it being in the xx13... see previous bulletpoint...

Too bad.

At least it makes my decision easier. 2312ci is it.

I'm now waiting for the price drop once 2313 is announced.

The Apple Tv will stream video at $99 US.

So the 2312 has a USB port? I don't want to buy an iPod. I currently listen to music through my gaming PC via the optical out because of it's righteous preamp. But it's going to start getting too hot this summer to run it in this little room. I'd like to listen to music without turning the computer on as it's kind of loud with all the fans (overclock geek).
Can I load a flash drive up with FLAC, WAV, Windows Lossless, Apple Lossless, and MP3 files and simply plug it into the receiver? Will the reciever recognize and play those files (at least the MP3's and FLAC's) directly from the flash drive?
Also with the internet connection will I be able to play files from my Linux PC, my Macbook (Leopard), and my Windows 7 PC through my router?

I want to avoid adding one more set-top box. I'd prefer WDTVLiveHub instead, but that won't get me video Airplay either.

This desire for video AirPlay is not so much for streaming content bought from Apple, but other streaming I do on my iPad, like from Youtube, Bloomberg TV app, video podcasts etc. I could use a set-top box like Roku or AppleTV, but using the iPad to "throw" something on it to the TV is more convenient. I already have a PS3, so I can get Netflix and some other streaming.

Anyhow, now that it is clear that no alternative receiver or set-top box (besides AppleTV) will do video Airplay, the decision on the receivers is easier.

Although those models had better components than the 2312CI, the sound quality from the 2312CI should be much better due to it's use of Audyssey MultEQ XT.

At a minimum the USB jack will allow MP3, FLAC, and WAV (see all formats listed in Owner's manual) as long as the flash drive is formatted using either FAT16 or FAT32. Same formats supported via the network. Note also that the 1613 and higher models all include a front USB jack as well.

I have a 1712. I've noticed that when audio goes away and comes back (unpausing, fast forwarding and then hitting play, etc) the volume takes a few seconds to ramp back up to where it was.

I did a search but couldn't turn anything up because of lack of good search terms.

Is this a known thing, and is there any way to disable it?
What I don't understand is ATV. AFAIK, it doesn't do 1080p mkv or HD Audio so what's the point?

I don't hate apple, per se, but when I can have better quality that's not enclosed in a walled garden I'm going to go that route.

As far as Denon goes what's with not supporting NTFS format?
