If you want 5.0+2.0 (Front Height)+2.0(Zone 2) = 9.0 , you'll need to connect a 2CH amp to the Zone 2 preouts and connect the porch speakers to the external amp.

2. HDMI audio will not pass to Zone 2, rather only analog, PCM 2.0 over optical/digital coax, USB, network audio, or Airplay.

Thanks! Two other questions:

1. If I disable the front heights (so only 5.0 in main room), how do I configure my two porch speakers (currently plugged in as Surround Backs) to be Zone 2? Should they be plugged in as Surround Back or something else?

2. Can you recommend an external amp to use for the two porch speakers if I want to use the pre-outs? I'm not familiar with how to do this?

Yes, but some have to be learned, at least that was the case with my harmony one.

note that it's irrelevant what model Harmony you have, they all use the same code database and programming software. What did you have to "teach" it that wasn't in the default code set when you loaded your device? Certainly 100% of core functions - volume, menu access, directional navigation, surround mode buttons, audyssey buttons, etc. are all in there.

I'm not at home so can't check but I believe CH Level was one of them for me.

1. Simply change AMP ASSIGN back to it's factory default of "Zone 2" and leave them plugged in to the Surr Back/Amp Assign speaker posts as you have them now. Also refer to section 13 - Zone 2 in post #3 linked in my sig for more info.

2. Any 2CH amp will do (or even an older AVR you have laying around). Check craigslist for something in your local area or if you prefer new, check out the one below.

hmmm...I must be doing something wrong. I changed the AMP ASSIGN and left the porch speakers plugged in to the Surr Back/Amp (and referred to section 13 post #3). I'm tried playing music via iTune Airplay and Pandora and HD Radio. When I try to select Zone 2 on the remote control, nothing happens? Is there another setting I need to change? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Yes I got the microphone and an antenna. I'm gonna try the 720 remote but I still might have to get the original or maybe a 650.

I played around with my remote and I think you need to set your remote to zone 2 and power it to on and when in a powered zone 2 select a source. The easiest way I found though is using your web control feature. Type in your browser your avr's Ip address on your computer or laptops and if you have your avr set up on your network zone 2 is right there for easy access.

>>I'm tried playing music via iTune Airplay and Pandora and HD Radio. When I try to select Zone 2 on the remote control, nothing happens?

All those sources (Airplay, HD radio) are digital sources. Zone 2 can only handle analog sources. It's not clear in the manual but they do state that.

Kind of cheapens the value of zone 2, doesn't it. However I checked and Pioneer has the same limitations!

Hardly any AVR for reasonable money does that unfortunately. I guess analog is easy (just amplify the signal that's it), but for digital you need a second circuit of DAC etc. which does add some cost and complexity.

Just purchased a 1912 for my father and hooked it up last night. Watched a BluRay last night and everything worked perfectly. I tried watching a DVD and had no luck. The screen would flicker and every once and a while I could see a distorted picture of the DVD in the background. The GUI wouldn't even display with a DVD in... same deal, I could see a distorted GUI in the background on some flickers. If I put in a BluRay, everything works great. DirecTV via a different HDMI port works fine as well.

Any ideas on what setting I have messed up would be appreciated.

Denon AVR-1912
Sony BDPS590 BluRay player
Mitsubishi HC4000 projector
...all using only HDMI connections

Thanks.

It's probably not a setting but rather a hdmi handshake issue. Hdmi in all brands of avr have this. To combat this try a different hdmi port and see if that solves your issue and if not try changing your Hdmi cable.

They are analog going out and you are free to send those sources to zone 2.

As a test, you might try configuring the Sony BD player to always output a specific resolution instead of passing through what it gets from the disc. If you have no problems getting 1080p/60 to the projector, that would be a place to start. FWIW, the cable run to my Mitsubishi HC3800 projector is just a bit too long for 1080p to be reliable, so I set my Sony 590 to output 1080i. As a side effect of specifying a fixed resolution, PAL Region 0 DVDs play fine, too, since my projector doesn't have to try to resync to that resolution.

The manual states that external digital connected sources will not pass to Zone 2. As Spager noted, on board sources (internet radio, Airplay) and USB will pass to Zone 2. Although also note that on the 3312CI only, PCM 2.0 over optical/digital coax will also pass to Zones 2/3.

Just finished setting up a 2112ci. It sounds great!

Question: After setup I listened to the radio for awhile. To stop, I changed the input to BD. At this time there was a notice of an update and advised to press Enter. I pushed the Enter button but there was no response. Was there something else I should have done first?

Thanks much,

Steve

^^
Was the update notice on the AVR front panel display or on the TV? If the former, press AMP then ENTER. If the latter, check to see if the update is for the Blu Ray player and follow directions listed in the BDP Owner's manual.

Thank you very much! Pressing Amp did the trick.

I have to remember that this remote can control other items so I have to make sure the right one is selected.

Thanks again.

A friend picked up a 1712 at Fry's for $229. Fry's ad said, "some new, some refurbished, some open box." His was new! Likely to be sold out this weekend. Going over to his house to help him set it up.

Also be sure to review the dual setup procedure in the Audyssey Setup Guide linked in my sig.

How do I run only for each sub?

Just ran into a small snafu that I should've thought of beforehand. Just tried to connect to the receiver via the android app and my phone couldn't see it. Why? I'm guessing it's because the receiver is connected to a switch that's connected to my htpc via windows internet connection sharing. I can run internet radio and have even performed a firmware update. I thought that even with sharing, it would all be one network. Guess not. I can get a network bridge but sure don't want the added cost and bloat.

The 720 seems to work well with the receiver. The software programmed the codes but didn't assign all the button/commands on the remote. At first I couldn't use up, down, and enter/ok but I went back into the software and assigned the buttons because they were left blank. I'm sure I'll have to fine tune some more later.

It won't show because it is behind that machine. You need a router.

Another dumb question and a problem I apparently caused myself.

After fixing my previous issue with updating, I went through all of the settings to see what they were. Along the way I made what to me were a few innocent changes. Of course I did not/not write down the changes.

After doing this I decided to play a CD on my Blu-ray player. Selected the BD input and pressed play on the BD. No sound. Put in another music CD. Still no sound. Went through the setup menu again and could see nothing obvious.

Next, I tried playing a movie on the BD, We Bought a Zoo. At the begging of the disc is the Fox logo and a music fanfare. This was fine. The next item on the disc with sound is a cartoon. No sound. I fast forwarded to the movie and it played with no problem. What the heck is going on?

One of the changes I made was to make something DTS, but I cannot find that setting now.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Regards,

Steve

PS Forgot to add that the movie disc played without problem on another player that is not connected to the 2112ci. I know enough to get into trouble but not out of it.

Has anyone had any troubles or luck using jRiver Media Center 17 and the latest firmware on their AVR? I trialed MC16 months back and everything worked fine - mainly what I want to do is use my laptop as a remote to push content from my server to the Denon - this use to work but now that I've paid for MC17 I can't get it to work. I can pull files directly from the Denon DLNA server so I am able to connect, but can't push.

If anyone uses jRiver and has this functioning please let me know your recommended server settings in MC. Also posted on jRiver's forum and none of the suggested tweaks have helped. Not sure if it's new media center or the new firmware upgrade.
Just to clarify - MC queues up the songs but nothing plays and I get the error

"There was a problem controlling the selected DLNA device. Double check your device, server, and network settings"

Run AUTO SETUP with sub #1 connected for mic position #1 only. Select "NEXT---> CALCULATE" and then check the sub trim. You'll want to get it close to 0db as with dual subs the AVR them maybe -3db when run together. If necessary, run mic #1 position again with sub #1 until you get it near 0db. When done, disconnect sub #1 and connect sub #2 and do the same procedure above again until the sub trim for sub #2 is set near 0db as well. Once done, then reconnect both subs with a "Y" splitter to a single preout and run AUTO SETUP again for all mic positions.

Check "Decode Mode" (p. 103) and if set to DTS, set back to "AUTO".

My wireless router is in another room. Internet connect sharing has worked well except for this obstacle.
