I should have done this earlier in my troubleshooting. However, the result is the same, the center channel is terrible on Multi Ch Stereo.

I'm convinced it's just the way Denon circuitry mixes the sound. I'm thinking I would have this problem with any Denon AVR.

I dont' recall anyone posting about a similar issue. You may want to exchange it with the reseller.

Well it is B stock from Accessories4less. And that's not a knock on A4L. I've ordered there before and they've been great.

Thanks everyone for putting in your 2 cents.

Audyssey Question

If a show is recorded with Dynamic Volume set to Day then played back with Dynamic Volume set to Evening will the playback be in Dynamic Day or Evening?

the receiver doesn't record audio. That question doesn't make any sense.

what are you recording with? your DVR? if so the receiver's processing is irrelevant, the recording is happening before the signal ever gets to the receiver.

"evening"...

the "show" isn't "recorded" in either one of them... dynamic volume is post processing, it happens after the audio signal has gotten into the avr... the source doesn't know anything about it...

Multi Ch Stereo plays the same through the 3 left speakers and the same through the 3 right speakers. The center channel plays a tinny, horrible sound. It sticks out like a sore thumb. I'd preferably like it to sound like the left or right channel. It would also be ok for it to be completely off when in Multi Ch Stereo.

I don't want to have to go into the menu and reconfigure the center channel on or off depending on if we're playing music or having the occasional surround movie.

Any suggestions? Did I buy the wrong AVR?

Have you tried swapping out speakers and testing the cc with another speaker?

I can tell you that I have the 1712 and music in multi-channel stereo sounds wonderful from all the speakers, including the center channel. I have the JBL studio series that includes the JBL 120c as the center. It might be your connections, what gauge wire are you using?

Hi Guys. I have the Denon 3312. I am interested in sending music to a pair of outdoor speakers. I haven't bought the outdoor speaker yet so I am open to suggestions. My question though is how many Watts per channel will I be sending to each speaker? I currently have a 5.1 set up that the Denon powers. Will I be getting 125 per channel, and will I lose power if I have the 5.1 playing at the same time as the outdoor speakers. Also do I just hook them up to the back surround, left and right channels on the back my receiver?

Thanks for your insight.

Although the power to the main zone will drop when adding the two additional speakers (note however, that average power is likely only < 5W/CH to the main zone speakers anyway), it should still be sufficient to power the outdoor speakers. And yes, just connect the outdoor speakers to the Surr Back L/R speaker posts.

Yes. All speakers sound great when hooked up as Ls or Rs. All 7 speakers sound terrible when hooked up to center on Multi Ch Stereo.

I'm using 12 awg. I don't think it's the connections because I'm unplugging the banana plugs on the back of the 1712 to switch speakers up.

It's good to know that Multi Ch Stereo can sound good out of all speakers. I'll try another unit.

I have a 3312 and have an issue where if I don't have a video source into the receiver (e.g. My BD input is selected but the device is off or I have Internet radio selected) the video display to my tv alternates between fuzz/noise for a couple of seconds and then the denon display for a couple of seconds and then back and forth. It makes navigating the Internet radio via the tv impossible. If I turn on the device plugged into BD though it gets displayed fine. Anyone seen anything like this?

When an external input source is selected, it must be ON for the GUI to display over the video. With the NET/USB source selected, try turning HDMI Control on the AVR to OFF, or powering on the AVR before the TV.

I didn't realize there was a huge tutorial on auto-setup here vs what I thought was good on my own.
I always thought it was a good idea to send bass to both sub and speakers but I ended up doing as recommended.... and it does feel nicer (could be placebo though )

Quid of LFE vs LFE + Main though? Is that the same thing?

Thank you guys!

It is when all speakers are set to SMALL as recommended. Refer to the following post for more info ---> http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showt...0#post21998180

THANK YOU! I finally got a chance to try this last night, and it seems to have done the trick. None of my web searches on picture drop-outs turned up this solution, and I never would have figured it out on my own. I really appreciate your help!

Suggest you take some time to review post #3 linked in my sig. The Deep Color Output setting is item "q" in the Troubleshooting section.

First off thanks to all who've participated in this thread. The info made my decision process easier.

Went through the authorized dealers on the Denon site one last time and picked OneCall for a 2112 as they're a couple days shipping closer than ABT or EE. One last look at the 2312 and uh-oh, an open box for $495. Sigh. $65 more and who knows what I'll want to do with it in a few years.

So now I've got a 2312 on the way.

More than I was looking for but a deal I couldn't pass up.

Actually, I have read that entire post and found it quite helpful, but the issues I experienced (or at least the keywords I was looking for) are not found in the heading or description for Item Q. Perhaps you would consider dumbing it down a bit to include words that newbies like me search for (e.g., "video drop-outs" or "video cuts out").

Just purchased a 1612 from Amazon and hooked it up last night. Everything went well but had a couple minor questions:
  1. 1. Is there an option to not display the volume level on my TV display?
  2. 2. Is there a code that turns the Denon on with my DirecTV remote? The ALL POWER ON/OFF doesn't work. I have to slide the switch to AV1 to turn it ON/OFF.

1. Yes. Set "Master Volume" (p. 64) to OFF.
2. Note that the setting is "P.OFF Control" (p. 62) with no mention of being able to power the device back ON again. You may want to consider purchasing a Harmony remote which can control all the devices in your setup with a single remote.

Thx! Will check it out tonight when I get home. This receiver has brought my speakers to life from the Yamaha one I had previously.

!2.Q Has Video issues in heading. Some have drop outs issues others have flickering video issues.

New Denon iphone/ipad remote app is greatly improved over original.
For those of you using DLNA and an external music controller, e.g. J River Media Center, does the Denon show-up on the network as an available DLNA media-player? Does it show-up even if the AVR is turned-off?

What I'm hoping to find is an AVR that is always 'visible' on the network and will turn-on (and switch to the DLNA 'input') automatically when I send something to play.
