How do I determine the IP address assigned to my Denon Receiver? I have ATT Uverse and am trying to configure the App DeRemote on my iPad and it can't find my Denon and I don't know how to figure out the IP address assigned to the Denon. I know the Denon is connected to the LAN because Pandora plays just fine. Thanks!

Question? I have a 5.1 setup which is working great. Oh, I have the 3312. The question is that I just picked a nice set of old JBL speakers that I have sitting in the back of my room. Here is the thing. There is no need to do 7.1 as everything is made for 5.1. I would just them to play when I am listening to music in stereo mode so I can sit them on my deck to listen to music and/or have them play alone with the ones inside to fill the entire house. I hope I make sense here.

1. Is it possible to have them play separate so I can play outside while listening to something else inside.
2. Is it possible to have them play what I am listening to inside to fill the entire house when playing music.
3. Is there a set up to do both without having to change wiring.

How do I do a micro reset so I can start fresh and does it wipe out my last update.
The manual is sometimes hard to understand.

Thanks for all the help in advance.

Anybody had good results using their smartphone as a universal remote and have a recommendation on software/hardware to buy to make this happen? As good or better than Harmony remotes? (I have an Android phone, and AVR-1712.)
AVR Remote on the Play Store will control the AVR but not other devices.

I think Denon will be coming out with their own android app very soon.

Oh, wait. That model isn't supported. You need a networked model to use the smartphone apps as it connects to your wireless home network and then to the AVR.

Go into the web interface for the ATT router and find the device with the matching MAC address. Sometimes you have to do it by a process of elimination. The f/w for their routers is crap BTW. I prefer using a faster and more stable DOCSIS 3.0 Cable Modem and a dd-wrt router that is very configurable. At one time I downloaded the manual for that router but I don't have it anymore because I ditched it a few years ago.

I have the system setup (no center channel right now), and I'm playing a concert DVD through my bluray player. It won't let me increase the volume past -10 and I'm not sure why. How do I fix it?

Model 2112
Which Model? There's a setting for the Volume Limiter in the Options Setup menu to limit the volume so you don't fry your speakers or amp. The settings are OFF, -20dB, -10dB and 0dB. Set it to 0dB or OFF if you don't have to worry about kids accidentally cranking the volume.

Good idea. Someone here posted a link where different center speakers from $300 to a few thousand (B&W) were tested with their orientation and at the end, vertical positions win. They had data to show the differences and recommend to buy a cheaper center speaker and set it up vertically. The lower end B&W center sounds better vertically than its higher end in horizontal position. After reading the article, i decided to buy two pairs of bookshelve to run all same speakers across my front 3 channel in my main dedicated theater room and use the last speaker of the pair as center for my other room.

Lobing, I'm almost sure of it.

Permanently having the center set up vertical will have very low WAF so IDK..

check your manual. It's in the GUI under Network > Information.

And there's that way too.. Sorry guys I'm always looking at the network / computer end of things and not the receiver end.

yes to all of the above, that's the whole point of Zone 2. see here: http://batpigworld.com/fadq.html#multizone

micro reset instructions are in the manual, pg 149. I know the manual can be confusing but these instructions are clear as day, there's even a picture

it will wipe out all settings but not any firmware updates.

are you aware that Zone 2 audio signals are ANALOG ONLY? The BB275 is a 2ch amp so it should accept an RCA input from another source and amplify it, but first you need to verify that you are getting a "legal" signal;

1. Zone 2 is analog only (or internally tuned network sources)
2. Zone 2 has independent power control
3. Zone 2 has independent source control

if the problem is with the BB275 itself (i.e. you say it won't even power up?) then I'm not sure what we can do to help. This is a Denon thread, and that's not a Denon product.

I still cannot get any sound out of the zone 2 speakers. I have them connected as stated in the Manuel and when I play music with stereo nothing. Is there something I am missing.

Went through set-up, 5.1 sounds great. I've been browsing the manual and this forum, and can't find the "simple" answers to:

1. When I turn off receiver, I get no sound from TV (operating w/o amp). I have HDMI control on.
2. I have a speaker selector wired to zone2 (last 2 7.1 terminals) for other rooms. If I'm watching TV (main zone), can I listen to it by switching to zone2? I tried, kept saying zone2 was off. What's the best way to check to see if Zone2 is working?
3. I forgot to look at my Sub (MFW-15) dials before I ran speaker calibration, seems OK, does it matter?

Thanks!

@ wetfit: did you read the notes in the link I gave you?

basic setup:

1. set AMP ASSIGN to ZONE 2
2. connect speakers to Surr.Back/Amp Assign speaker posts

then remember that:

1. zone 2 has independent power/source/volume control, so you need to both turn it on and also select the correct source (which is NOT necessarily the same as what you have selected in main zone) following the instructions on pg 83 of the manual. That means you can't just turn on the music and expect the zone 2 speakers to make sound, you have to set the zone 2 power on and select the right source and turn the volume up.
2. zone 2 cannot play HDMI signals. The only audio which will go to Zone 2 are analog inputs or basic stereo PCM signals (e.g. network audio streams or 2ch music fed via digital coax / optical cables).

Got. That's why. All of my inputs are hdmi except 2. I guess I can only use it to play cd's or records. That sucks. But I will fine a way.

1. Your TV cannot decode 5.1 sound.
3. As long as your sub trim level after calibration is not - or + 12db, you should be good.

[quote="I'm not sure if my sub (Polk PSW10) can effectivelly overlap to 200Hz without a dip in the SPL vs dB curve as the upper -3dB limit is 160Hz[/QUOTE]
No offense here, Sammy but are you planning to upgrade your sub to get the most sound for your system?
Thanks. After reading the recent Zone2 posts, I got my CD player to play music (but on Zone1). Even pressing the zone2, it seems to revert to playing zone1. Where's the "Amp assign to Zone2" setting?

I got the TV sound worked out... had it set to revert to HDMI1, should have been HDMI3.

Trying to find Audyssey results...

edit: found them. Sub is -7db, should be OK, sounds great.
Got zone2 working... dummy here... my switcher box had the wiring outputs labeled wrong, so I was trying to listen in the "Kitchen" and it was playing "outdoors". Main problem is volume output to zone2 seems real low. Main is loud at -45db, zone2 is about normal at -10db (as high as it will go). Each of my room speakers has an in wall volume control, turned all the way up at -10db, it loud enough (but doesn't seem like "max"). I think I saw a limit somewhere, probably set at -10db. Safe to raise to zero?

edit#2: Turns out, don't have zone2 worked out. Zone2 speakers work, but if I turn on Zone2, with zone1 in standby, zone1 comes on also. And if I have zone2 off, and am listening to zone1, zone2 speakers are on (faintly). Isn't there a way to just listen to zone2 with zone1 off?

From the reviews it appears to be a "learning" remote so you may be able to simply teach the Dish remote the Denon remote codes. See your Dish remote's instruction manual.

Thanks - RF only works on the Dish Tuner; so everything else is IR only so that's not it.

I've tried the "learning" mode and it seems to "forget" codes as I add more in (maybe the limit is 10 learned functions although it doesn't state that anywhere); so I was hoping there was another Dish code that had been added for the AVR-xx12 series of receivers.

It was set to that and I think I did this a bit ago just for safety reasons but must have forgotten. I probably won't go above 10 anyway but I wanted to make sure nothing was broken. Thanks

I thought HDMI could play in zone 2, just not independently?

Maybe you're thinking of Airplay or perhaps the Yamaha Aventage series (HDMI to Zone 2 with same source in main zone) as no other current AVR on the market (to include Denon) can pass an independent HDMI source to Zone 2 (the Denon 3313CI will be the first which will be released in a couple of weeks).

The only universal option that doesn't require attaching something to my phone appears to be the Griffin Beacon. The reviews aren't great, but it might do the job so I may pick one up.

Please let us know how the Android version of the Beacon app works. I spoke with a company rep who indicated there is no compatible device listing on their website and they only list the available devices in the app by brand "name" not but model number. So it will be interesting to see if it can control the Denon.

My 1612 (a few weeks old) has started acting silly by clicking itself on and off repeatedly for no reason, this goes on for a few minutes then it stays on again. Done it twice in the past hour... it's been fine until now! Is this common?

Definitely not common. I would do a microprocessor reset when you have a chance.
