Do you experience the same behavior with Denon? I am considering buying a Denon.
Thanks for any info.

I'm not sure which Onkyo model you have, I have an 807 and a 605, there is a long thread about the 807 on this site and all the failures of the HDMI board because of over-heating. I had to send mine to the shop twice before they got it fixed and even then when I got it back the iPod dock no longer worked. I liked my 807 for the features and it was an upgrade for me from the 605, that is until it crapped out and I read about how many others crapped out as well.

While it was away being fixed I picked up a Denon 1912, it was a cheap replacement while my 807 was in the hospital.

Right now my set up has the Denon running and the 807 in a box. It does as good a job as the 807 did for watching tv/movies as I never relied on the 807 to up-convert my video, my Panny Plasma does a fine job without any help from the receiver. I also fell in love with the airplay feature of the Denon.

Oh and yes you can't cook an egg on top of the Denon.

Yeah, I know it's bottom-end of the Denon spectrum, but should be just fine for my needs rolleyes.gif.
However I am experiencing an issue with my PC Video:
I have my PC (with NVIDIA GTX285 video card) connected via DVI - HDMI dongle -> 4' HDMI cable -> BD input on the receiver.
When I select the BD input, my TV screen remains black with [NO SIGNAL] box in the corner, the PC desktop cannot be seen.
If I select SAT/CBL input, I can watch TV & then if I select the BD input my PC desktop is now viewable.
This process works every time; almost as if the receiver needs a "boost" in signal in order to "jump-start" it.
I have tried moving my PC to another input; DVD for example & it operates exactly the same....that is to say DOES NOT OPERATE.
Should I try a longer or shorter HDMI cable, a better quality cable, modify some PC settings, change Denon settings?
I would appreciate your input & thanks in advance.
Try game 1 or game 2 HDMI inputs on your Denon. I had the same problem until my PC connect to game1.

two questions....

can I use zone 2 or 3 to power a passive sub for main zone?

any one else having issues with um,... how do I describe this..... when using my sat/db input everything is flawless.. but when i play my xbox which is in the dvd compnent input ,my tv had a white flash that goes across the bottom of the tv every once and a while.. also when im using the hdmi cable from my macbook pro through the dvr hdmi imput I have the same issue but never that issue on the sat/usb input with my direct tv box

I had a small question about the xx12 series (in particular the 1712 - seems like a reasonable price from accessories4less). I'm wondering if the series can output 1980 x 1200 resolution from my PC to a monitor (using 2x HDMI -> DVI cables. one that will be Video card -> DVI -> HDMI -> Receiver, and the other Receiver -> HDMI -> DVI -> Monitor).

Thank you in advance for any information!

EDIT: For a little more insight to my setup - I'll be using it to power my PC Multimedia for now, and later on it will get moved into a HT room whenever my wife & I get a home of our own. I will be using the DVI -> HDMI cables for video at least for the initial setup, after that they won't be required to my knowledge. I'll be outputting the Audio from my system via a Xonar DS sound card over optical. I have to start out with just 2 simple speakers (Infinity P163) and I'll be getting the matching center channel as well (PC351). I have not decided on a subwoofer yet. I'm debating between Epik, Hsu, & Emotiva at the moment, and with that being a long term budget - it's a bit off the radar).

Any easy way to turn on double bass on the 3312 with out the OSD? I have my unit connected to my PC via HDMI (no external display is connected so I can't see the OSD), and I am tired of having to listen to music in DTS Neo 6 just for my subwoofer to turn on.

Yesterday I purchased a Denon Avr-2312, had some initial problems getting the firmware update installed.

But this morning the update was accepted and installed.

Noticed the blue HD Audio light on my 2310 is no longer used on the new receivers as from xx11 models?

Correct. Denon dropped the blue HD light beginning with the XX11/X91 series.

Not likely, no .... generally only standard TV resolutions will pass through.

You should be able to do it using the AVR's front panel display, although as long as your speakers are all set to SMALL with minimum of 80hz crossovers (as is suggested for all speakers regardless of physical size or capability), any lower frequencies below 80hz in the music will play to the sub ... so there's no reason to use the Double Bass setting at all. smile.gif

Once you get over about 10 feet, HDMI cable quality is paramount. That means starting to look at good manufacturer's or at least companies that back their product with lifetime warranties. Monoprice has been great for me, but defects, especially with HDMI cables are just going to happen. No matter what you hear or read, these cables have to be treated like ethernet cables (very delicately) because of the thin wiring.

Before replacing the 30' HDMI cable thru the walls again, just to experiment, here's what I did yesterday...

Just to test out, picked up a 35' Monster high-speed HDMI cable from local BB. Connected it to my PJ via AVR's HDMI out. To my surprise, the picture quality and the sparles issues became 10x worse than with my original cable. So I concluded that my existing cable isn't the issue. And because this issue started happening right after I replaced my old HK AVR with the Denon 3312, I knew it had something to do with the AVR. So started going thru the Denon's settings for video and noticed that by default, it had the "Video Upscaling to 1080p" turned on. So, I turned that off and voila sparkles were gone!

Having done this, I switched back to my original HDMI cable and everything works as expected -- for about 20 mins. Therafter, no image at all. So, I hooked up the Monster cable back again and image returns. I then swapped back to my old HDMI cable and image appears -- for about 5 mins this time.

So what does this mean? Well, obviously the "Video Upscaling" on the AVR needed to be turned off to eliminate the "spearkles issue" because my PJ is only 720p. I am still not sure if there's any issue with my cable though -- it's a high-quality, very thick/heavy cable from Monoprice. I guess, I'll need to talk to their CS rep.

Issues regarding Internet Radio and Sub have been resolved -- Thanks to JD and the rest of the forum members! smile.gif

what you "proved" is what we told you before... wink.gif while turning off the "scale to 1080p" solved your issue, it's not because "your projector is 720p"... it is because the bandwidth required for 1080p is too much for that cable length in that setup to "work right"... by eliminating the 1080p feed, you reduced the needed bandwidth to a low enough level that the signal is now "ok"...

the issue at 1080p remains the cable, not any of the other equipment... smile.gif it may appear on the surface that "it's the avr", because you changed something on the avr that "made it work"... but it's not... "sparklies" are caused by insufficient bandwidth virtually 100% of the time...

welcome to the world of "fun and games with hdmi"... tongue.gif

I like the Denon 2112 remote but I cannot for the life of me figure out how to program it to control an Epson 8350 projector. Maybe I'm just not hitting the Google lottery but I cannot figure it out.

The automated remote setup for the Denon worked with my Panasonic BD player, but I cannot find Epson anywhere in the Denon remote setup menu, starting with the listing under TV.

What is the next step? Is there a Denon support line or site I can contact that works?

Thanks - Andrew

I have a Denon 3312ci and cannot get it connected to my home network or get Airplay to work. I have connected an ethernet cable between the router and my AVR... and it recognizes my wife's computer, which is on the network, but doesn't recognize mine. Also, on my wife's computer, it recognizes her computer but says in not authorized. I tried the reset procedure noted in the first few posts, but I'm not sure it worked... I'm not sure how you tell. I've spent several hours on this today and would very much appreciate any help. Thanks!

There are only a select number of devices stored in the Denon remote. If your Epson PJ is not one of those devices you'll need to use a 3rd party universal remote (eg. Harmony) if you don't want to use the Epson PJ remote.

Take some time and review the Networking and Troubleshooting sections in post #3 of this thread linked in my sig.

I have. I tried turning it on and off, but not multiple times. I can't understand why it shows my wife's computer but not mine. This seems to indicate its recognizing the network... and I can see the Denon 3312ci on my Home Network -Summary. I also tried restarting my computer and restarting the router modem.

So then you specifically read and followed this tip when the PC shows up as "not authorized"?

Yes, but that will only help the AVR to recognize my wife's computer and not mine, right? I don't care if it recognizes her computer... I just want it to recognize mine. I will try it if you think it will also help recognize my computer, which doesn't even show up as "not authorized." Thanks.

I don't mean to be difficult. I'm trying my best. How do I set the DHCP to off and put in a manual address? I've been at this for hours and can't seem to find it.

Please follow the directions on p. 111 in your Owner's manual.

I'm having an issue with my 1712 and XBOX 360. Sometimes when I turn on the XBOX the receiver displays "STEREO" and other times it displays "DOLBY D". When I play a game in DOLBY D the surround is fine, everything sounds great. When watching HBO GO in DOLBY D I only get 2 channels, front left and right. If when I turned on the XBOX and the receiver displayed "STEREO" I can switch to PLII and get surround sound on HBO GO. If it is displaying DOLBY D I cannot figure out a way to get surround sound when watching HBO GO (series such as The Newsroom, Deadwood, GoT...). I've searched through this thread some and found that there is a handshake issue between the XBOX and Denon receivers. Maybe some of you can answer my questions. Is there a way to get surround sound for HBO GO on the XBOX when in DOLBY D? Is HBO GO only 2 channel audio? If I can't get surround when the signal comes across as DOLBY D is there a way to manually force it into STEREO mode so that I can switch to PLII for surround? I've tried messing with the decode mode but it only outputs sound when switched to Auto mode.

This is my first post and I've found so much information combing through this site. Thanks to all those that share their knowledge!

Please let us know if you have Airplay working. I have had some unresolved troubles with Airplay. I don't want to repeat my situation again in this post ... but I'm curious if others are having Airplay issues.
Do you have Apple devices like iPad, iPhones etc? Do they see the Denon device as an Airplay destination?
^^
What you're experiencing isn't an HDCP handshake error, rather simply that according to the thread below, HBO GO only passes DD 5.1 over Samsung smart TVs at present and not from the xBox. However, as you have the xBox set to Dolby Digital it is passing the stereo audio from the HBO GO over a DD 5.1 audio track so the AVR is receiving a 5.1 audio stream. This is also the case for some TV station broadcasts as well in that they will broadcast a stereo signal over a DD 5.1 audio track. The AVR sees a 5.1 track so there's nothing to simulate even though you're only hearing audio from the FL/FR speakers. In order to use DD PLII to simulate 5.1 from the HBO GO stereo input, you've got to set the xBox to Stereo mode.

I don't think HBO GO offers true 5.1 yet on the Xbox. If you want to use PLII, you are going to have to change your Xbox settings to stereo before watching something using the HBO GO app and then change it back to DD when playing games or watching Netflix. I think when you have the Xbox set to DD, it always thinks it is outputting DD.

Thank you jdsmoothie and Nickff. I did try switching the XBOX to stereo shortly after my post, and it's good to see that's what you guys recommend. As for the receiver displaying "STEREO" or "DOLBY D" (seems to randomly switch sometimes after turning XBOX on) when XBOX set to DD, this is a handshake issue correct? Just want to make sure I don't have a faulty receiver.

Thanks - given i manually punch in a code into the denon remote I figured that such a code, while not listed in the menu system, might exist elsewhere. It isn't on the Epson site.

Looks like I need to buy a harmony.

I don't have that issue with my Xbox, but I also have it connected to a 4311. I seem to remember there being an issue where the Xbox wouldn't remember that DD was selected in its menus, but I thought that was addressed in an update....

Also, when you press the power button on the 360 it is not outputting DD just yet because it hasn't checked for that setting in its menus. After a second or so, it should switch to DD.
