Acessories4less will pay for return shipping of a defective item only if it is being returned for an exchange. We will not pay for the return of any item being returned for a refund.

My problem is with A4L washing their hands off after delivering a DOA product.

Not washing their hands at all, rather just following Denon's protocol put in place earlier this year. Prior to that AC4L was dealing directly with the customer, however, as it turns out, many of the units that buyers were claiming were defective, when returned to Denon, were determined not be defective at all (not implying yours is not defective) and therefore Denon decided to step in an take over troubleshooting the issue prior to having the buyer return to the unit.

Not true at all. AC4L has been in business over 10 years, often recommended as a source for refurb items on this forum. As noted by another poster, buyers should not do business with a company without fully understanding the company's return policy. Also, AC4L only sells the units that Denon sends to them and cannot be blamed for any defective units.

Yeah but truename called acl and they told him to contact Denon when it is clearly stated that they will pay for return shipping on defective porducts when you get a replacement.
He is not the first customer they did that to.
When a company does that, they can never be trusted.

I like to use the HDMI pass through feature at night, but recently my PS3 stopped recognizing that the AVR has been put in standby mode. In other words, the television audio does it's best to recognize the codec but I barely get any sound. The center channel seems to be gone completely as no dialog is heard in games. I've tried deselecting everything but Dolby Digital and the basic lpcm 2-channel audio in the PS3 sound settings, but then I get no sound at all in standby. The only way I get stereo sound to the television is to let the PS3 automatically detect the 2-channel tv audio with the AVR off. Not the end of the world, but it would be nice to figure out the solution. I should say that my PS3 settings haven't changed i.e. (bitstream, hdmi control on, etc.). I've also tried multiple PS3 games to no avail. Finally, the Xbox 360 (also HDMI) doesn't seem to have this problem. It goes from Dolby Digital to 2-channel audio just fine. I'm thinking there is an issue with the current PS3 firmware or a bad HDMI port on the AVR.
I appreciate any help.

Will your TV accept DD 5.1 directly from the PS3 or just PCM 2.0? More than likely your issue is tied to a recent firmware update to the PS3. As a workaround, you may want to consider connecting the PS3(HDMI) directly to the TV with PS3(optical) to the AVR and set the PS3 to "Multi Audio Out" as you're not likely to notice any difference in audio quality.

If you read his post again, you'll note that Denon has yet to determine his unit is defective, so there's no reason for AC4L to take any action at this point.

I recently purchased a miniDVI to HDMI dongle for video and a toslink to mini toslink optical cable for sound. Naturally I want to hear the sound from the 1612. However, there is only one optical input on the back and that is labeled TV. Can I use that port for my MacBook optical out? I am assuming I need to connect the HDMI out from my MacBook directly to the TV as connecting it to any of the other HDMI ins on the 1612 would override the optical in. So say I have the HDMI going to my TV for video and the optical going to the 1612 for audio, how do I set the 1612 to hear sound from the Macbook and see the video on the TV at the same time? Please let me know if this doesn’t make sense. I am happy to provide more specifics. Thanks in advance!

Yes. Although the optical input defaults to "TV" it can be "assigned" to other source names, just as is the case with the coax digital and HDMI inputs. Although HTPCs sometimes have issues connecting to an AVR, technically, you can connect the MacBook HDMI to the AVR as well as the optical to the AVR, assigning both inputs to the same source name (Input Assign, p. 68 OM). Then change the INPUT MODE setting (p. 69 OM) for that source to "Digital". If that doesn't work and you go HDMI to the TV with optical to the AVR, simply select the MacBook HDMI input on the TV as well as selecting the optical input on the AVR.

As far as I know, the TV would only accept PCM 2.0. The TV has a small sub so technically it's 2.1 if that matters. I should also mention that it is a "slim" PS3 which is why I'm letting the AVR decode.

The optical connection makes sense. I'll go with that until the next PS3 firmware update.

Thanks!

Yes I read it but they assured him Denon would repace it at no charge. If a call to Denon determines that it is defective, then A4L should be the one that replaces it.
I'm not convinced that Denon would replace it free. They may replace or repair if the owner pays to ship it to Denon. Or takes it to a auth serverice center. Still that would take too long most likely.

Hi guys, and thanks for this thread.

Someone advised me to post here the questions I posted there (http://www.avsforum.com/t/1437547/denon-avr-3312-how-to-output-analog-signal-from-hdmi-input#post_22558638)

Basically I would like to get a proper analog line out on an AVR-3312 for the HDMI inputs.

Here is the set-up I would like to achieve with this:

Macmini HDMI out > AVR-3312> DVR out> Vintage Amp AUX IN.

I would like to set up 2 systems of speakers, on in the 3312, and the other in a Revox integrated amp.

I managed to get some analog inputs (CD and Phono) through the DVR OUT and ZONE 2/3 OUT,
some Toslink as well, but no HDMI.

Is this even possible?

Thanks for your replies!

no, it is not possible. Pretty much no receiver will downmix HDMI inputs to analog stereo RCA output.

generally, all Denons can output only analog inputs to analog output. Your 3312 has the ability to also output 2.0 PCM digital signals from SPDIF inputs (optical/coax digital) but not HDMI.

I do not think that you can output to analog if your input is HDMI. You could set the Mac mini so that it outputs sound through Toslink, and set the Denon so that for the Mac source it uses HDMI and optical. Then maybe get that optical source out to your zone 2/3 out?

You might also be able to use something like this Monoprice HDMI->HDMI+Toslink switch too, and plug in your Mac's HDMI in, then plug the HDMI out to the Denon AS WELL as the switch's Toslink out. That might allow you to then push that audio straight to Zone2/3. I own such a switch and it works wonderfully well. I actually don't need it anymore, but was using it before I got an HDMI-capable receiver (video would go to projector and Toslink out to my AVR).

I'm testing both a Yamaha and a Denon right now, and the Denon's management of inputs is much, much stricter than the Yamaha's so you may have to try a few things. That switch might allow you to get the same sound output from your Mac as two sources as far as the receiver is concerned.

Interesting that AC4L seems to be similar to Vanns now with Denon product failures and return policy. How can one claim that the Denon receiver is not defective if it won't stay powered up? Is it reasonable for a buyer to have to research internet websites seeking solutions that requires microprocessor resets and the like? It is not reasonable for a buyer to wait, posibbly for hours, hoping to get a customer service rep from Denon that will likely claim, "we have never heard of this problem." It saddens me to see a once reputable manufacturer resorting to this type of customer blame game. If I were in the market for a new receiver I'd steer clear of Denon (and Marantz). My old Marantz SR7000, SR5002, and Onkyo 805 are still kicking. Maybe all the advanced features of new receivers are the culprit. Or maybe Denon/Marantz are just crap now. Vanns and AC4L need to step; they are, afterall, selling the junk.

Thanks for your reply Dr. Crash.

I actually managed to output analog on the Zone 2 pre-out from Toslink (from the Apple TV),
but there's a delay between the Denon and the analog out.
Basically the Denon repoduces a few milliseconds late. mad.gif
So the Audio Delay function won't help,
as it 'delays' positively the audio signal, what I would need to do is advance it...

^^
For those HDMI sources also passing video, try changing the "Video Mode" (p. 92 OM) to "Game".

Yes, it adds some kind of reverb surround.
But I don't see your point..?

Ok sorry. Now I see.

I got confused because my manual's p.60 is about the 'Surround Mode" function,
which also has 'game'.

So yes I switched the Video Mode to 'Game' and its better. But still has delay... Argghhhhhh.
My only option would be to 'delay' the analog out.
By disabling the video conversion, it gets almost perfect,
but there's stil a very slight delay.

So I connected the audio only on the TV Toslink input,
and the HDMI directly to the TV. The delay is barely audbile,
i would say a few miliseconds.

Anyway, need to give it a fresh ear tomorrow, or I'll go nuts right now.

i dont know if this is an audyssey thing or something with my subwoofer. but after reading quite a few posts saying the woofer on a sub shouldnt move much im bothered by something

i have denon 1712, bic f12 and budget andrew jones pioneer speakers the 1st series.

just some important info that pertains to my question coming up. at a tiny bit less than 1 gain on the f12, audyssey set sw channel level at -2.5 so i left that alone

i have upped the sub to +2.5 on the receiver. i get plenty of bass

but, the woofer does move quite a bit. so that contradicts a lot of what i have been reading that the woofer shouldnt move much.

is there something wrong here?

Don't we miss the times when audio and video were separate things? smile.gif I hope you'll be able to fix that. I am not sure I'd hear the difference but I am sure it'd drive me mad if I could too... Do you have a single audio source at this point? I can't tell from your posts if HDMI is a source of sound or if you're all Toslink from one single source out to two places now.

Oh you'd notice it straight away, it sounds like an echo.

Yes I have 2 digital sources, my Mac via HDMI, but that wouldn't go through the analog rec outs,
and Apple TV via HDMI for video and Toslink for audio.

I just bought a 2112CI and I am in a bit over my head I think and could use some help, I have a couple of questions that I am sure are easy answers.

1 - I just ran the Disney WOW speaker ID test and no mater what movie mode I put it in it always IDs the side channels as my rears even though I have rears and the Denon sends sound to them when watching movies or listening to music. Now I am worried that when I am watching a 7.1 encoded movie I am not getting real 7.1. Is there a setting I need to change? I have ran the Audyssey set up and have not changed anything since. I did see in the menus there is a "Surr. Parameters and I did see in the manual that it has something to do with 5.1 and 7.1 but I wasn't sure what they were talking about. I guess basically I need to know if there is a way to fix the speaker ID issue.

2 - I guess I thought that the receiver would auto select the best sound mode for the source being played is this true? How do I know that I am using the correct mode when watching the new 7.1 BDs? I spent a lot of time convincing my wife that we needed to upgrade for the True HD and DTS-HD sound and now I find my self not knowing how to use it confused.gif

Thanks you guys are always a big help.
If you're playing the WOW disc on a BD player that you have never previously used "successfully" then you should check that it is set for bitstream output, assuming that you are using HDMI interconnect.

Well you rock, while it was on bitstream there was a feature called BD secondary that was on that converts down converted all the audio to simple DD and DTS. Once I turned that off the ID worked great and the Disney intro sounded much better too. Thanks!

ive got a problem with the difference between volume levels

when i switch from an video with Dolby Digital to an video with Stereo the volume is always to loud.....

when i switrch from stereo to dolby digital then the volume level is too low..

can somebody point me in the right direction?
Can you be more specific? Are you referring to watching a TV show in DD 5.1 and then switching to a show in stereo? If yes, that difference is due to the individual station broadcasting the audio at different levels.
yes when i watching for example a TV show in Dolby Digital 5.1 then i need to set the master volume very high to hear something.
when i want to watch an SD channel with stereo sound then its too loud and i need to (quickly) set down the master volume

how can i change the volume levels per sound modus???
Either simply adjust the master volume using the remote or use two Quick Select buttons, one at the DD 5.1 audio level and one at the stereo PCM 2.0 level.
ok i understand, but is there a way to adjust the volume (channel level) per sound modus?

because using the remote control the difference is too high between the two levels
post #15990 of 17929
What model AVR do you have? Do you use DD PLII to simulate 5.1 when watching SD channels or do you listen in stereo (FL/FR) only?
