I just recently got a subwoofer. When listening in Direct Mode, how can I add Subwoofer to the mix? Currently when I play music in Direct Mode, only the front speakers are being used. I have a 3312ci. Thanks.

If you want that effect use "Stereo", not "Direct".

Go to System Setup > Audio Setup > 2CH Direct/Stereo

in this custom menu you can configure separate settings for 2ch listening when set to "Custom". Make sure sub is set to YES and SW Mode is set to LFE+MAIN to activate the sub in DIRECT mode. Otherwise, because Direct bypasses bass management, the sub will not play.

Man, just when I think I have a handle on this thing, there's another wrinkle, lol.

I'm thinking what these receivers need more than anything is a massive reference work based on flowcharts.

JD: Like you said, the only way for me to do it now is to listen in Stereo mode with the sub. But Direct Mode sounds much better that Stereo Mode for some reason.

batpig: I have set the 2CH Direct/Stereo with Sub set to Yes but I don't think I have SW set to LFE+MAIN. I will try that and report back.

Thanks guys.

This is it. You are the best!!

I have a 3312 Unit and never received the firmware update notice either. I tried a manual update but it says I have the latest version. I called Denon a little while ago and the person told me they pulled the fix and are working on a new one due to some issues. I really miss Pandora, hope this gets fixed soon!

If Stereo doesn't sound good, that suggests that something might have gone wrong in your Audyssey calibration.

Also, Denon receivers provide two different Audyssey response curves: Audyssey or Movie, and Flat or Music (Sorry: I don't recall which pair of names Denon uses.) You might want to try the "other" Audyssey curve -- the one which is not your current default. Audyssey/Movie includes a rolloff in the upper frequencies. Flat/Music does not.

I will have to look into it. The only thing that I changed after the Audyssey setup was to change all Speakers to Small and the Crossover Frequency to 80hz. Maybe I should leave the settings alone and try it out for a few days after the setup next time.
Setting speakers to Small and raising the crossover to 80Hz is the right thing to do.

"Small" is a misnomer and really means "enable bass management". You should only raise the crossover, never lower it if it's already at a higher value. Lowering it will cause a "hole" in the audio because the speaker's frequency response is falling off below that value.

You might want to review the Audyssey FAQ and Audyssey 101 documents in the Audyssey thread. http://www.avsforum.com/t/795421/official-audyssey-thread-faq-in-post-1
The Audyssey instructions in receiver manuals are incomplete.
Thanks for the info. Audyssey set my Speakers to large and between 30 and 50Hz crossover and I raise them to 80Hz. manually.
You did the right things.

There's an annoying subtle distinction: the large/small settings and the crossover frequency settings are provided by the firmware written by the receiver's manufacturer, not by Audyssey. Apparently all Audyssey's code does is provide the frequency at which the speaker's response is down by 3dB (below which Audyssey does no correction.) The manufacturer is responsible for translating that into user-visible values. *sigh*

my 3312 did get the update, i think i did it last week. it worked fine until today. It has an IP, i can get to it from web access and through my phone via wifi - but it can't connect to internet radio or pandora today. i can get to pandora form my laptop. maybe something changed again so they have to put a new one out...

I have Pandora working on my 2112 but the playlist is different than what my PC Pandora account shows. Any way to fix that?

Also when I try to get to my media server for music the AV-Remote app on my android says the Denon stopped responding. Any ideas how to make the media server work? Its on my Windows 7 x64 machine and works with my Xbox360.

after the initial setup, it says front speakers and subwoofer is out of phase. not sure what that means. i had the sub at 0. speakers are all wired correctly. i will double check red and blacks match up again, but any other thoughts? i skipped it and completed the 6 position readings. seems ok.

I didn't see a reply to your question. Out of phase means you have a speaker, possibly two, connected backward. Double check your front speakers and sub to make sure the wires aren't swapped between + & - at one end vs the other. Once corrected, re-run Audyssey.

thanks. will check fronts. the sub is connected through RCA to the left input on the sub. try the right?

As long as the speakers are confirmed wired correctly, you can ignore the phase warning. smile.gif

Just got a 2312, sort of a pain so far to get the PS3 to play nicely with it, once I work that out look forward to using it, sounds great from other sources. I mean really great. Edit, i think it's my Sammy, just hooked everything up to my monitor and another TV and it works fine on both, neither are Sammys.
Try setting the Anynet+ feature on the Sammy to OFF as that can cause problems with the AVR. Also be sure to set the "Deep Color Output" on the PS3 to OFF as well.

First, thank you to everyone who contributes to and supports this forum. The information available here is a tremendous resource.

Regarding firmware updates... if I follow jdsmoothie's procedure for determining the current firmware version of my 2112, it looks like version 0006 is installed. Is there a way to equate this version with a specific firmware release date? For example, Denon shows December 13 as being the release date for the latest firmware to fix the Pandora problem. Since I updated firmware back in September when the avr was purchased but have not been able to update to this latest release, I can guess that the Pandora update is 0007. However, I would rather know than guess. TIA.
The version number is irrelevant, rather what is more important is whether the unit indicates the firmware is up to date or not.

FWIW I do not use Pandora, however I do own a 2112 in the bedroom and the other night (maybe Wed night) embarked on a firmware update odyssey, based primarily upon discussions here. Both the "automatic update" and "automatic notification" were set to ON, and seemed to indicate that my current version is up to date. I have not updated the 2112 since the initial successful update just after its purchase several months ago.

However as I cruised thru the systems setup menu I found an update option which, after selecting, stated that a new update is available... however, after passing the first "authenticating" screen and selecting "download", the 2112 went into another "please wait, authenticating" screen, which was still displaying several hours later when I woke up for a visit to the bathroom.

So the question is, is there actually a new update, or is there not an update?
One screen says there is, another says there isn't.

I had the same issue, it seems that after resetting the unit multiple times, factory resetting too, and trying to update the firmware through the web interface and the onscreen menu at different times, eventually the 2112 saw the update. I couldn't figure out what I did to make it finally work, so just keep trying.

Also I figured out my Pandora issue with the playlists. Seems like it never saved my username and password and was using a generic account.

Save Configuration FAILS on my 2112 Ci. I was able to save a configuration prior to returning my 2112Ci for service (blown HDMI board). It was returned a couple of weeks ago, and I've re-run Audyssey. I tried to SAVE the config through the PC web interface without success. My PC sees the receiver (I can adjust parameters) and see the prompt that the 2112 was connected, but the Save always fails. I've tried with Net Standby On and Off without success. I've tried with Firefox and with IE. Any suggestions as to what I'm doing wrong?

Thanks,

Dan

Thanks JD. It appears that update notification is not working consistently as my experience has been the same as RobLee's and Travanx's but with no luck actually downloading the update. Given this inconsistency, I was hoping to confirm my fw version. Will keep working on this and report results when or if I have any.

Thanks for suggesting anynet+. I never had it on, but since the HDMI wasn't working correctly this gave me the idea to connect the PS3 using HDMI again and turn Anynet+ on, and then use the direct option in the tools menu to turn it on (devices > PS3) and this actually forced the Sammy to see the PS3 correctly. It brought up the usual "do you want to use HDMI to ..." screen and everything works great now.

Have you reviewed the SAVE/LOAD info I have listed in the Troubleshooting guide?

I have a Denon 1912, all work perfect but in the last week when put a blu-ray disc receiver display Multi Ch In and not DTS-MA, blu-ray player is set to send DTS signal as always, any clue about what is wrong?. Thanks in advance.
Was it just that one BD or is it now with all BDs? It's possible that particular BD had as it's default a PCM 5.1 audio track, otherwise check to make sure the BDP's "Secondary Audio" setting it set to OFF.
