I'm using a phono preamp into the Blu-ray RCA input as it allowed me to select RCA inputs. When I tried this with the CD input, it would not give me an RCA option. It was almost as if it was greyed out.

Does the Blu-ray input do anything differently than CD if I'm using RCA?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Is there a chance? Yes. A good chance? Yes, unless you're pumping a great deal of power into your speakers. Most if not nearly all of the time there won't be any noticeable difference. If your setup allows you to outstrip the power capacity of the receiver, though, power amps would give you a bit more headroom. This would most likely only occur in some combination of a large room, insensitive speakers, high volume setting and some kind of extended explosions or some such in the program material.

What do you mean by "select RCA inputs"? Are you talking about the input assign screen? In this case, the RCA refers to the component video inputs. The CD input is audio-only so there is no option for assigning a video source to this name.

You can however use the "Video Select" setting to match the audio from the CD input to the video from *another* source, as long as it's not HDMI.

If you could explain more clearly what you are trying to do it would help.

The most often recommended sources are Electronics Expo and AVS Sales, although the former does not ship to Canada and not sure about AVS so give them a call.

Edit: AV Science does indeed ship to Canada. smile.gif

Future Shop has the 3313ci at $999 but deal ends Jan. 10 but maybe they will carry that price if you act quickly. It sucks that we pay more even though our dollar is at about par with the US.

I have been struggling with figuring out the best way to stream from my PC to my A/V setup.

I have a Panasonic 60GT50 and a Denon 2112. Id like to stream DirecTV content via the Internet onto my TV - both video and audio.

I tried connecting a PC to my Denon and struggled to get that to work. Earlier in this thread I was advised that there are tricky handshake issues that might make this challenging.

If anyone can give me advice on the best way to achieve this, Id really appreciate it. Should I be able to make this work by connecting either to the Panny or Denon via HDMI? Would this work more effectively if I had a different model of the Denon AVR? Are there certain models more well suited to managing this?

It seems like I should be able to get this to work, but Ive really struggled.

Thanks.

Sounds like your PC has an HDMI output, right? In theory, you should be able to hook up the PC to one of the HDMI inputs on the Denon for audio+video, and then pass the video along to the TV, just like any other source. That said, configuring PC's to work properly with a typical A/V setup isn't always easy, it's not guaranteed to be "plug and play" like a Blu-ray player or something.

It's irrelevant what model of Denon AVR you have, they all have the same HDMI inputs. It's more of a global issue of getting the PC to "play nice". In addition to HDMI handshake problems, there are a host of settings on the PC side for your video card that can affect things.

The first thing I would do is hook up the HDMI directly to your Panny plasma and try to get the computer working such that it is successfully outputting audio+video over HDMI. The reason is to eliminate the additional variable of the HDMI "repeater" (the receiver) in between the PC and the display. Once you can get HDMI output functioning from the PC, then you can try going through the AVR. If it doesn't work, you may end up having to go with a hybrid solution where you use HDMI to the display for video, and run a separate digital audio cable to the receiver for audio. Or possibly go audio+video with HDMI to the display and then pass the audio back to the receiver via either ARC or an optical cable.

Quick question about the setup mic for the 3312, it came with the ACM1HB mic, but all the Denon's documentation shows/lists the DMA409 mic for the 3312, are these the same or compatible? I hope I didn't receive the incorrect setup mic from the open-box purchase...

Why don't you just download it to your DVR, whatever you're attempting to stream to your PC, and watch it on your TV, or are you attempting to do something special?

It's the same mic, no worries. They changed the model number and cosmetics for the xx13 models but the mic itself is the same.

The ACM-1HB mic is used with the Denon XX13 models as well as the 2012 Marantz, and Onkyo models, while the DM-A409 mic is used on the Denon XX09-XX12 models. The ACM-1H mic is used on the Marantz and Onkyo models for the past few years. Note however, that all three mics are interchangeable.

Not sure if I'm using the right post option here, or that I should start a new thread:
I'm a happy owner of a 1912. I have connected my Wii, Blueray disk, Mac and Samsung TV and some nice speakers.
A few days ago, I finally switched to digital tv, and received an Amino set top box from my provider to facilitate this.
When I connect the Amino directly to my Samsung TV through HDMI, it seems to working fine (technically, that is, because it is a remote control nightmare).
If I however connect the Amino to my 1912, I just get a black screen and no sound.
I think I'm experienced enough to claim that I configured the 1912 correctly, but I'm open to any suggestion on how to solve this issue.
Next problem: getting the Denon remote to work with the Amino, that is not listed in the menu.
Thanks in advance for your insights!

Welcome to AVS Forum! smile.gif

Yup, you're in the correct thread for all questions related to a Denon XX12 AVR.

Be sure to review posts #3-6 in this thread for additional helpful information to include the below post that discusses issues with cable/sat boxes.

http://www.avsforum.com/t/1334369/the-official-denon-avr-xx12-model-owners-thread/0_100#user_L11

Additionally, if the device code is not listed in the remote's database, you may want to consider using a Harmony remote which can control over 225,000 devices.

Hello - first time post here and I'm hoping someone can help.

I am looking to replace an Onkyo 707 avr which died today. Well, not died but I'm getting no sound which seems to be common with this receiver. I am looking at the
Denon AVR2312CI but I can't tell if it has a loop out connection? I had a headphone amp connected to my onkyo via the tape out connection and I need to verify if I have a way to connect the headphone amp to this denon receiver. I see it has a DVR out, I'm not familiar with what this is but I'm guessing it's for video components. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

As previously noted by another 1912 owner, as the Pandora update was removed from the Denon servers, fixed, and then added back to the servers, there may be no "update notification" when turning on your unit. You should be able to manually apply the update as noted below ....

Owner's manual - p. 93

Systems Setup -- Option Setup -- Firmware Update -- Start

Now that Denon has apparently issued an update, I've reconnected my AVR-1912 to my wireless network so I can try to download and install the update, but it is still not able to connect. I followed the path you suggested (above) but both "Check for Updates" and "Start" are grayed out. I use the Apple AirPort Express router.

The receiver's display reads either "Connection Fail 03" or "Update Retry"

What should I do?

My tuner button isn't turning the radio on my 3312. What am I missing here? Is there something I need to do to get the tuner to work?

I am having problems with my sub not being loud enough. You can barely hear it at all. I have a 3312ci with Polk Audio RM510 speakers and i went through the auto setup and it has my sub at +9 with it at the 12 o clock position. I tried then turning the sub all the way up and turning the amp setting to +12 and it is still very quiet. I current have it running through the R LFE. i tried both pre outs on the back of the amp and its the same quiteness. I tried the suggestions on the setup and took the sub cable out and rubbed up with my finger tip and i could hear it scratching so i doubt the sub is bad. What else could i try? Thanks in advance

Hi to everyone.! I have a question.!
I have the model 2312CI and I read some thing about the video scaling 4k..!
So my AVR 2312CI model can support that ?? for the new TV's generation 4k..? or I have to buy the 2313CI...or higher once again ...?

Thanks to everyone for support..!

The 4K "Ultra HD" TV's unveiled at CES will undoubtedly have their own built in upscalers so there shouldn't be any need for upscaling via the receiver.

Thanks Batpig. I was able to get it running on the tv directly, but not to the Denon. Any specific ideas or tips of things I should try in troubleshooting?

Does anyone know if the 1913 will ever get windows 8 certification so you can use the playto charms.

thanks
Not likely no, rather it's new successor the 1914 would be Windows 8 certified.

Sorry, but no ... only the new XX13 "CI" models have the 4k upscale/pass through feature.

Do you have the FM and AM antennas connected to the AVR?

What sub are you using? Considering the vast majority of subs are fairly efficient and would be set at closer to -12db than +12db, either your sub is in a really bad location or it's defective. Suggest using the "sub crawl" procedure to find the most ideal location in your room.

Sorry, but no ... only the new XX13 "CI" models have the 4k upscale/pass through feature.

Although its worth noting that 4k displays are likely to become widespread long before actual 4k content. In this case a xx12 model will be fine as it will pass through all of today's content (up to 1080p/3D) and then the 4k display can upscale from there.

Ummm well the frist page say this: a. 1080p/4K Video Upscaling: The 2112CI and lower XX12 models do NOT include a video chip and cannot upscale video to 1080p, rather they will simply pass the video through at the same resolution sent by the source (ie. 1080p from a BDP will pass through as 1080p to the TV). Only the 2312CI/3312CI include a video chip to upscale video to 1080p ... the Analog Devices ADV 8002-4/8002-1. Although it is a brand new chip to market, early reports are that it provides no better improvement over the ABT chips from previous year's models. Keep in mind though that if you have all HD sources, or you feel your cable/sat box, BDP, or TV does a good job of upscaling SD content, you don't need to upgrade to the 2312CI or 3312CI just for the upscaling feature as the upscaling feature of the AVR most likely will provide no better video quality then will your TV or source devices. If you have the 2312CI or 3312CI and want to pass the video through the AVR with no upscaling, set the "i/P Scaler" setting for that particular input to OFF.

I have the 2312CI and say I have that ship..! confuse no..?

Ohh okay, that actually just happened to me a couple days ago. I was switching between two channels when commercials came on, and eventually the picture became distorted though the audio was fine. Fast forward / rewinding did nothing to help until I switched channels again. Guess I'll go the cable box --> hdmi --> TV and cable box --> optical --> receiver route. Although at that point would it make more sense to just run component cables to the TV and an optical cable to the receiver since the point of the HDMI cable is to carry audio and video through one cable?
