That is a great turnaround time for a repair! Would have been weeks if it was taken to a local shop before they could even look at it.

Did you buy from MacMall? I did as well, but I was under the impression it was only a 90 day warranty from them as opposed to 1 year from accessories for less, etc. My 2312 is on the fritz and I'm way past 90 days but not over 1 year. Did you call Denon or Macmall? I need to try resetting the microprocessor when I get home tonight but I don't expect any good news.

Did a 4 hours airplay session in both zones last night while using our firepit out back ... hard turn-off on iTunes again, and the 1912 is behaving still.. Looks like I MIGHT be in the clear (fingers crossed) thanks for the suggestions guys!

I guess the firmware/processor just gets gummed up sometimes and needs a whack?

Is it risky to connect L/R/C 6 ohms & surrounds 8 ohms to an Avr 1912?, 5.1 setup.
Not at all .. the AVR is designed to power 6-16 ohm speakers. smile.gif

The best way to ensure the avr network doesn't gum up is hit the stop button on your avr remote and back out using the return button on the remote when ever using Airplay or any other networking feature. The problem is even though you close out of iTunes or networking, sometimes the avr still has Airplay or networking just laying there.and it will gum up and jam.

If this happens usually unplugging avr for a few minutes will resolve this problem.

After a few minutes, they come back on again with a click. The display says nothing out of the ordinary, no messages, blinking lights, etc. So far, I've checked the speaker wires (swapped them with the ones from my bedroom setup) and if anything the problem is worse. This evening, it did it again several times on lower volume while watching TV (different input and connection - hdmi from the music this afternoon - optical toslink cable). In 5.1 mode, the center and rears are fine. I've also tried unplugging the unit for a few minutes with no change.

I can swap my speakers (PSB T45s) with my bookshelves from the bedroom (Monitor Audio RS1). I can also do a microprocessor reset. Is there anything else I should be trying or is it time to go receiver shopping again pending those other two things I just mentioned? I bought it refurbished over a year ago, so my warranty is out....

Well I reset the microprocessor and no joy. No sound out of the mains when running Audyssey. Also, I tried other speakers with the same result. Tomorrow morning, I'll call Denon I guess.

Anyone else experiencing issues with the iOS Denon Remote app since the 2/13/13 app update? It worked flawlessly for me for a year on my 2112. Since the update, when I open the app it appears to be focused exclusively on identifying and controlling my media server(s). Options for power, volume and zone and source select are not even listed now. Oddly, it still works on my 3311. The 2112 shows the firmware as being current, with no update option.

Thanks for any help.

Working fine on my iPhone. Delete and redownload.

I take that back; showing volume at -22.5dB, instead of 58.5 (how I have it set). Oops, now has 58.5, I turned the iPhone OFF for about 30 seconds.

Note that this applies to MULTICHANNEL inputs. When you want to "upmix" a 2ch stereo input to 5.1/7.1 surround sound, then you apply whichever "post processing" scheme you desire. In this case, you can choose between the Dolby and DTS flavors (Pro Logic vs. Neo) or Denon's built-in modes like MultiCH Stereo.

It's confusing but the key is to understand the difference between discrete multichannel inputs, where it's already coming in as 5.1 audio packed into a codec like Dolby Digital, and all the receiver has to do is unpack the audio from the encoding container, versus stereo inputs where the receiver has to apply additional processing to mix the extra channels.

Does it default to "standard" after it has selected the surrounds source based in the input (e.g. Dolby Digital, etc.)?

Any 5.1 sources--- will play what it receives. No choices
2 ch source ---Your choice Dolby PL or Dts Neo 6 or Multi Ch Stereo etc...

Note; 2ch sources, if you turn Auto Surround Mode to ON it will remember and call the last stored mode automatically per input. So if you like that mode you chose for a particular input, Set it and forget it. It will not change until you change it and when you change it will become the new set it and forget it. Remember each input can have it's own Set it and Forget it mode

. If Auto Surround Mode is set to off the mode you select will be on All inputs.

Do you have your BD set to Bitstream? If set to Pcm it will not give you the mode as the BD player will decode the information, No difference in sound quality between Bitstream an pcm so set it to Bitstream and you should see the info on your avr.

I just looked and it is set to bitstream. I am using a Sony 590 blu ray player. Could their be another setting i am missing that would cause it to just show "Standard" as my surround mode on the AVR? (3312)

What does it say on your avr front display? It should give you the mode on the bottom line.

Hi MNaudioguy, on Sony 590, set HDMI Audio to "Auto" and change BD Audio Mix setting to "Off".

It does say Dolby Digital on the AVR display, so I am assuming things are correct. It says standard when I use the menu via the TV, however, I am assuming it is still dolby digital. I guess the only reason i am concerned a little is I feel a lack of bass coming from the front l/r that are set to Large. They are Def Tech 8060 towers with built in subs. I dont have another sub at the moment. I do have a mirage omni s-8 upstairs and I feel that hits harder than the towers, but maybe I had higher expectations smile.gif

Thank you all!

Hello MNaudioguy-make sure that your "bitstream downmix" is set of "off" on your Sony 590-see if that changes the "standard" message when you are sending encoded Dolby 5.1 , via bitstream, from the 590.

There are tweaks like the Audyssey curve and restorer and others that may help with bass but I am not sure of those settings.

I turned Bitstream Audio Mix settings to off. I didnt see the Bistream Downmix option though.

I need to replace my dead AVR-789 and was looking into the 1712. Does anybody know the best place to pick one of these up still?

Did you try turning up the sub volumes on your speakers? You will need to rerun Audyssey however.

no, not yet, i will probably try that though. I had them both dialed in at 12 o'clock and thought that would be good enough since some folks say they even have to turn them down. I know the room is large and that could have something to do with it, however, even directly in front of the speaker it still doesnt have that bass i was expecting. Thanks all for your help, I dont want to hijack the thread and can try a few things and come back if i still have questions

CNN this morning announced that Best Buy changed it policy and will Match any major online distributors prices. So if you see a good deal print it and they will match although on big ticket items you usually need to phone the online seller to get their best price.

Yes, I purchased 3 from MacMall.
One year warranty on Denon refurbs from MacMall. They are an authorized Denon dealer.
