The sub setting of -12db is independent from any of the speaker settings. If you have the sub in a corner or near a wall ... move it to another location.

Hi, I hope someone can answer a question about my 2112. Everything seems to be fine since my install yesterday except the GUI during web/usb. The denon is only outputting 480i through hdmi to the tv and it looks bad. Is this normal? It looks good on all other sources.
Thanks!
Well,

Looks like they fixed the full RGB issue. I am now able to see bars 231-253.

I also notice that I can hear sound coming from my TV menu at the same time as hearing sound from my PS3. So I am getting ARC sound and the source input sound simultaneously. I don't think it was like that before, but I did have my AV on before I turned my TV on this time (since the denon turned itself on after the firmware update)
For my 2112 firmware update.. while doing the update the the Denon display read the following..
"DSP" with a countdown for that particular time remaining
"OSD" with a countdown for that particular time remaining
"EIMG" with a countdown for that particular time remaining
So I assume these are what were in the update?
DSP being possible a display update? and OSD maybe On Screed Display? No clue what EIMG is? Just guesses on my part really. The update it still going so dont really know for sure.

EDIT***

After the update I cant seem to see anything different as of yet, except all my "Speaker Channel Levels" are messed up. Audyssey had them at around -7db and now they are all at +3-+5! should I leave them? recalibrate? relaod my config that I saved before firmware? Maybe the firmware made a change to one of these settings?

Yes, the resolution of the Denon GUI is 480i.

I am trying to use my old Sony STR-DA777ES as an external amp to run the fronts and center (all big Def Tech). I leave the Denon to run the surrounds. I have run 3 RCA cables from my Denon 3312 preouts to my Sony 5.1 inputs. I have then put the sony in 5.1 input mode. I then try to re-run the calibration and am told that it can not detect any speakers.

The manual states "When external power amplifier have been connected to PRE OUT terminals, do not connect the speakers
to the speaker terminals."

Does this mean that you have to either go all external amp or all internal and can not use a combination of the two?

I do not have anything connected to the fronts and center speaker terminals on the 3312.
Does anyone know if the 3312 can play streamed or USB 6 channel music in FLAC format?
I recently purchased a 2112CI and have it connected to a JVC HD-DLA, DirecTV and a PS3. Upon set up I had no issues and was even getting 7.1 sound out of the PS3 which I was excited about. After about a week I started having what I thought were HDMI handshake issues, but only with the PS3. I followed advice in this thread on how to reset the HDMI on the PS3 and the order in which to turn on the components to minimize this issue.

Things worked well for another week until the power went out overnight for about a minute. When I attempted to use my PS3 it wouldn't recognize the HDMI and I just had a black screen. I tried to hook the PS3 directly to the TV and reset the signal and still had no luck. I tried the PS3 on another tv with HDMI and it worked just fine. I'm thinking the issue is with the tv, but the DirecTV works fine in all 6 inputs on the 2112CI and the PS3 is not recognized in any.

I gave up today after trying 5 or 6 different HDMI cables I had at the house and picked up a component cable for the PS3. Hooked directly to the TV it works just fine, unlike the HDMI, however, hooked to the 2112CI via component I only get a full green screen. Last but not least, when I use the component cables with my TV and the HDMI from the PS3 to the 2112CI, it runs the sounds in 7.1 with no issues.

Why can I not use my HDMI through the 2112 for my PS3 anymore when other HDMI works just fine? Why do I get a green screen when I try to connect my PS3 with component cables through the 2112, but perfect picture through the tv? Why does the sound work from the PS3 to the 2112CI but not video? I have tried everything I know and will use the set up of component through the tv and audio through the 2112, but I really wanted it all running through one system to minimize remotes, etc.

Can anyone shed any light on why this connection is failing?

First off why are you using the Sony as it's rated the same as the Denon ? In fact unless you add at least a 200W+ amp, you're not likely to notice any difference. There's no issue with using a combination of preouts and speaker posts. That caution simply indicates not to connect the preouts and the speaker posts to the "same" speakers. Is it just the L/C/R that AUTO SETUP is not recognizing? It's likely a setting on the Sony that is causing the issue. Get it to work correctly before doing AUTO SETUP.

Apparently not. Your best bet is to call Denon or perhaps ask in the 4311CI thread.

If you have confirmed the PS3 can no longer pass an HDMI video signal to the TV directly, why would you expect it to work passing it through the AVR?

Open box AVR-791 vs a new AVR-1912. What seems like the better decision, based on quality and functionality. Money isn't the issue. I just can't tell which is better. I have them setup side by side and have been plugging/unplugging for a least a few hours.

Any input is appreciated.

Thanks

Wow ... a bit temperamental this evening aren't we? My post to you actually repeats what you said in your first post. However, no worries ... there are plenty of others here to assist you.

Audio quality wise (as the 1912 doesn't have a video chip whereas the 791 does) .. they're both the same as they both use Audyssey MultEQ. But feature wise, the 1912 stands out as it not only uses a GUI that can overlay 2D video but also uses networking and Airplay which will allow you to control the AVR with a smart phone from anywhere in the house that has access to your home network. Although if money is not the issue, spring for the next model up, 2112CI which offers a better version of Audyssey MultEQ XT as well as a 3rd year of warranty.

Normally a firmware update should not reset any config settings; however, another poster indicated the same thing. As you do have that config file saved, then go ahead and LOAD it to return your saved settings. That's why though it's always a good idea to save your most recent settings prior to doing a firmware update.

Hi all,

A question for my fellow Canadians: I have decided that I wish to eventually purchase the AVR-2112CI and would like to know what kind of deal you were able to negotiate with a store here in Canada. The MSRP here is $749.99 Cdn which I know is way above the $430 to $450 U.S. that the Americans can get at Electronics Expo in the States. Does anyone know what the approximate dealer cost in Canada would be for this model? Thanks.

Thanks for reporting back on this. I'll update post #6 to reflect the fix. Not sure what you mean by "getting ARC sound and the source input sound simultaneously?"

While waiting on a fellow Canadian to respond .... keep in mind that only a limited number of authorized US resellers provide a discount on Denon AVRs, while the vast majority sell at MSRP ($650). If you can find a dealer that will ship to Canada, you can get a Square Trade warranty that would likely cover the AVR if not purchased in Canada and would allow you to get it repaired in Canada if necessary rather than returning it to the US.

You can also use the "Search This Thread" feature (upper right corner of page) while logged in with the keyword "Canada" to identify those posters who indicated they were from Canada and then send them a PM if there is no response to your post.

I reloaded my saved config file, and the channel levels were all still at + levels like they were after the firmware, so I just manually adjusted them to what they were prior to the FW. The FW also changed the volume display from relative to absolute and also disabled RESTORER.

Arer you sure the changes weren't done before the firmware update? It's unlikely that if they weren't they would not have been restored when you reloaded the file? I would contact Denon on Monday and tell them what happened just so it gets reported. I'd check all other settings as well to confirm no other changes. The speaker level settings are set by the AVR itself so it's unlikely the Audyssey settings were changed.

The sub has been in the same spot for several years and I have received better than -12db. nothing has changed and now all of the sudden I cannot get rid of this reading?. this does not make any since.

You bit the wrong hand. jdsmoothie has an enormous amount of patience, answers questions, and solves problems in this thread as if he's on commission. He's just trying to help you see where your issue is. He is one of the most capable users in this thread. Peruse the thread just a little bit, and you'll see what I'm talking about.

I do hope you find a solution to your problem, however. I understand how frustrating it can be. I'm concerned the problem may actually be related to your power outage.

Well .. just to confirm the front height setup is not somehow causing the issue, disconnect them from the AVR speaker posts and reset AMP ASSIGN back to Zone 2 and do the AUTO SETUP again for 1 position only to see if you get better sub trim results.

Positive. I had to move my sub last night so reran Audyssey, saved the file and called 'er a night. Woke up to the FW update right away. I will contact Denon. Thanks!

That might be the case, but I'm just trying to find a solution not cause any problems. I just got firmware update notice so I hope when that's finished it will clear up some issues. Right before I started the update I tried my Internet radio and the screen is all green which is also new even though I get audio. It really could be the power outage that caused the problem. The system is on a surge protector, but it could have done something.

The Sony may be rated the same as the Denon but on back to back comparison, the sony has a lot more headroom. The sony weighs over twice the weight of the Denon and I never had to turn it up past half way. The amp section is a monster.

Also, even if a receiver is rated at 120x7, if you use all 7 or even 5 channels, it will produce less power than if you only use 2 or 3 channels?

As to my connection issue, it does appear to be with the sony. For some reason it is not recognizing analog imputs, only digital.

Hey guys. Just picked up the 1712 today. Really nice! However, I cannot get the "MultEQ XT" to illuminate. To be clear, the "MultEQ" IS illuminated. The "XT" part is not. The manual says the "XT" should be illuminated. I restored my auto setup, I even re-did the setup twice, and it still won't come on. Any tips? Thanks!

Let me know how this works out for you. I'm going to try the same thing with a Sunfire receiver, in my case to provide better 4 ohm support than my 3312 can provide.

Another thought to consider: because 5.1/7.1 analog inputs are generally designed to take a fixed line level input from a blu ray player (vs. the variable line level the denon preouts will provide), first setting the Denon to a fixed volume (ideally, just shy of clipping the preouts), then only using the volume control on the external receiver acting as the amp may work better overall from a signal-to-noise ratio perspective. Of course this method works if all speakers are connected to the secondary receiver only.

I agree though, it's difficult to part with a older receiver that has an awesome amp section just because it's preamp section is out of date, so any creative method of repurposing it is definitely worth the experimentation.

OK. I pulled the sony receiver and replaced it with a NAD 2 channel amp. Same thing. The 3312 does not want to send any sound out of the left and right front preouts.

Also, I now noticed that when I turn off the 3312, the green light around the on/off button just goes out. It does not change to red like it used to.

This is really driving me nuts. I don't get it. No matter what I do, the "XT" portion of the MULTEQ XT front panel indicator light will not illuminate.
