Is everyone basically pleased with the 2112 overall? I'm looking to upgrade form a 10 year old Sony (STR DE-945) and the 2112 looks like exactly what I need. I had two questions regarding it though.

1) The 1080p upconversion - I currently run my xbox360 through the component video cables, so everything should be going through in HD anyways. Should I shell out more for the 2312 , or will I be fine without the upconversion? Related to this, there's only one optical in, which will get assigned to the xbox360. Will the unit automatically know that the xbox is comign in on analog video cables and digital audio?

2) OSM - I understand the the OSM display on the 2312 shows up on a 3D TV, but does the 2112 not show up on a 3D TV at all? I don't own one, but would possibly upgrade in the future, and wish to future-proof.

I have about 6 devices I'd be attaching to it, and want to control it with a Harmony One, so I'm trying to cut down the cable clutter in the back of my TV.

I'm also looking at an Onkyo TX-NR609, Marantz SR5005, and a H/K AVR2600.

I can tell you first hand to try several different mic locations. I finally got my 1912 programmed at midnight last night after running the auto setup several times and finally got it right so don't despair, if you are having trouble with the speaker config try and try again!

I need some advice. I am about to purchase the DefTech Mythos SSA-50 "Single speaker surround" solution with a Emotiva Ultra 12 sub for my living room. My wife is adamant that I cannot use floor-standing or on/in wall speakers which is why I am leaning this direction (she grudgingly accepts the need for the sub).

The manual for the SSA-50 says to NOT run the auto-setup feature on the AVR because "the SSA produces surround sound from a single front mounted speaker, the auto setup feature will not operate correctly and will actually make your system sound worse."

I am interested in purchasing a Denon 1712, 1912 or 2112CI (can't decide on bells/whistles), but I am now not sure if the speaker situation above will negate the value of the AVR Audyessy MQ (XT) capabilities. Will I see any difference between normal MQ and MQ XT? Will either of them be functional in my setup? Any help and advice is appreciated.

Your question came up in the Audyssey thread a couple of years ago with an answer of "try it both ways and see which you prefer" although that did not come from Audyssey (Chris) himself. Your best bet is to go to the "Ask Audyssey" website and pose the question to him directly and his thoughts of whether the filters in the SSA-50 would conflict with the Audyssey filters or not.

1. Although it's new to market and untested, the video chip in the 2312CI is unlikely to provide much (if any) real improvement so you should be fine with the 2112CI. Once you get the xBox settings correctly set, it will work just fine.

2. The 2112CI GUI will display "over" 2D video, while with a 3D video source the display will black out and then the menu will appear. The 2312CI will display the GUI "over" both 2D and 3D video sources so you continue to see the video in the background behind the GUI.

I'm in pretty much the same boat. I've been using an Adcom 5503 on my H/K 525 for my front 8 channels for the past 5 years and I don't know if I'd want to step down to anything that doesn't allow an external amp. I think the 2312 meets all my other needs, but the lack of pre-outs will probably push me up to getting a 3312 or perhaps a heavily discounted 3311. My polk RTI 150's are old but fairly efficient, however I worry about not being able to drive them properly compared to what I've grown accustomed too.

Seems like years ago, most receivers had pre-outs, but you can't find them on the lower level models anymore.

Did we ever get confirmation that airplay can be sent to zone 2? Can it be played independently in zone 2 while another source is played in the main zone?

On my 1912, AirPlay can be sent to Zone1 by itself, Zone1+Zone2 together but Not Zone2 by itself.

After sending airplay to the 1912, if I change the source of Zone1, AirPlay stops on Zone2.

Slightly annoying, but (so far) it's the only issue I've had with the 1912. I love it otherwise!

I don't know if some future firmware release could fix this or if it's just in the design.

Same as the 3311 and 991. Pioneer 1021 is the only receiver on the market I am aware that can do zone 2 separately.

Currently it's by design. Unknown as to whether a future firmware update is planned to change the design.

Looking for some feedback from the group on which direction I should go. Here is what I have:

Display: 65" GT30
Center: JBL LC1
Towers: B&W 684
Rears: JBL L820
Sub: JBL L8400P

I am not looking to upgrade from 5.1 in the near future. I am coming from a 2 year old Pioneer 1018AHK. The three Denon models I am considering are the 1612, 1712 and 1912. Do you think the 1612 can provide sufficient power to this system? If not, I would likely lean towards the 1712 as the 1912 is at the top of my budget and appears to really only offer Airplay for the extra $ which is not a big deal to me.

Your thoughts/feedback are appreciated.

With those nice speakers and if not interested in networking, I would consider the 1712 for the Audyssey MultEQ XT. For proper timbre matching of your center speaker, I would also suggest demoing a B&W HTM61 or HTM62 as well.

I did notice the 1712 gets EQ XT over the 1612, plus the extra power handling of course... Yes, the B&W's were a recent acquisition to replace very large and very old JBL S312's. They are still sitting in the box and I am looking forward to setting them up soon. My LC1 is less than 2 years old and cost me $180 new from Amazon (sells today for $330). I can't cost justify replacing it with the B&W center at this time, unless of course I could sell a used LC1 on CL for the same or more than a new B&W center...

I've recently started looking into HT gear and had a pair of B&W 683s at home last week for an in home audition along with a pair of Paradigm Monitor 11s, was using a Denon 1912 to power these. When doing AB test between the two pairs I realized that the B&W were much more difficult to drive at 90dB rated sensitivity compared to the Monitor 11s. For the same SPL I had to crank up the volume by ~ 10dB for the B&Ws compared to the 'digms. I finally decided to go for the Monitor 11s and am still deciding between the Denon 2112 and 2312 for my receiver, for your system I'd recommend you go with 1712 just for the additional power.

PS: This is my first post in this forum so "Hello" everybody. You guys will be seeing me around a lot more now having gotten me into serious HT gear

I can answer your question #1- you can manually set the inputs. So, it will work. You can have one input for video and a different for audio if you want. Of course you are limited to the one optical in though. 2112 is a great receiver by the way. I upgraded from a Denon 2803 and the 2112 sounds better with the Audysse.

1) You can assign component video input and optical input to meet your needs. So you shouldn't have a problem once you read the instructions. But the unit will not automatically know how you want things assigned.

2) If you plan to get a 3D TV and want the receiver to display volume levels and input source on top of whaever you're watching in 3D then you should get the 2312.

3) Harmony One should work with any Denon receiver. I use a Harmony 670 with my AVR-989 and it does everything I want it to do...and for $40 new when I bought it.


4) Denon has a better version of Audyssey than the Onkyo 609, Marantz 5005 and whatever calibration is used in the HK.

Just finished Audyssey setup and am now listening to some Count Basie FLAC from my server.

I haven't noticed any difference between the 1912 last week and the 2112 today, but I am nevertheless happy I went with the 2112.

Hello all, I have Denon 2808 connected to 5.0 KEF speakers (2x iQ7, iQ6c, 2x iQ3) and I am happy with this setup - from the sound perspective. Now I plan to move to 3D and therefore need a 3D capable receiver. Should I go for the new 2312 or should I go for Onkyo 709 (got some recommendations) which I can get for slightly lower price and it also seems to have more options / features?
I am a musician not that much interested in "features" but decent sound (both movies and music).
I would appreciate any comments / ideas.

P.S. Do I understand correctly that the new Denon AVRs are made in black only?? My 2808 is silver and I really prefer this color...

Both the 2312CI and the 709 are fairly comparable, both using the same Audyssey MultEQ XT, although the 709 does add DSX (wide) and the Marvell video chip while the Denon offers Airplay and a 3rd year of warranty as well as the ability to control the AVR via the Denon REMOTE app using an iphone, ipad, or other smart phone. You would likely find Denon owners who switched from Onkyo and Onkyo owners who switched from Denon. Your best bet is to demo them both in your home theatre and determine for yourself which you prefer, even if it costs a little more for the demo.

The silver models "were" only offered outside of the USA, although looking at the other Denon sites world wide, it appears Denon has indeed moved away from the silver models across all regions.

Afrogt- the 2112 has been available from some distributors since Friday. The other xx12 models are not available yet. I received mine yesterday hooked it up today. You are correct in #1 and #3. Each input has it's own audio and video selection for inputs. On #3 - I have the harmony one- it was a pain the 2112 remote is not yet available- So, I had to learn the logitech remote features. The logitech website is almost to smart for itself making suggestions and selecting other Denon remotes.

I didn't know they still made the Monitor 11s, I've had a pair for 8 years and I'm still very happy with them. They are efficient speakers, rated at 94 DBs I think, so they will be louder than allot of speakers at any given output.

Oh yes the Monitor series is on ver 6 currently and rated at 97 dB in room sensitivity. What Denon are you using to power your 11s?

The 2112CI is impossibly easy to operate. I got Airplay working with my iPhone immediately, can stream my iTunes library from either my phone or my desktop, and can operate everything via the AVR web browser GUI. Also, I thought it was funny that I was in the bathroom controlling everything using the iPhone remote app. I must admit I am kinda giddy and nerdy when everything works as advertised so easily.

It sounds so much better than my H/K 347. Last night I spent about 30 minutes and performed the auto set up again using 7 listening positions and turned my sub back on.

My neighbors are gonna hate me, but I freakin' love this thing.

Edit: forgot to add that my sub sounds like a completely different beast using the Denon over my H/K, I actually don't want to replace it now.

Hey does anybody knows why?..when my blu ray player is playing the previews in standard 5.1 and then switches to the main movie and starts to play the hd 5.1 or 7.1 audio the sound drops? Then when I keep switching inputs on the receiver it pops back on and everythingd fine.. Please help I'm confused

Did you purchase a new XX12 model? This is a known issue that can occur with older AVRs, like your 1910 and if still using the 1910, please discuss any issues with it in the Denon 1910 Owner's thread. Thank you.
