Thanks for the info. Out of curiosity, could you try a save on the 3312 once you have used the AVR for a while, with NS on.

For the record, my 2112 cannot save properly from startup, or any time with NS on.

MultiCH STEREO sends the exact same signal to the surrounds as to the fronts, at the same volume..... but, one of the things Dynamic EQ does is boost the volume of the surrounds. So, as a consequence, the surrounds sound louder than the fronts with Dyn EQ enabled and 5CH STEREO.

So, simply turn off Dynamic EQ when you want to use 5CH STEREO.

Sure, I try it tonight.

Thank you! Can't wait to get home and try that tonight as it sounds like a very easy way to switch the sound back and forth. Thanks again...

Pardon my ignorance here Batpig, but doesn't the center channel 'steal' some of the stereo info in this config?

I am about to fire up my AVR-2112 in the new Media Room but I have a question. My Xbox360 is older and I only get Component outs but everything else is HDMI (Samsung TV, Blu-ray and DirecTV).

When I upgrade to a Projector, will the AVR-2112 take the Component input from the Xbox and route it over HDMI for the video signal? If not, I'm guessing I would need to run both HDMI and Component cables to the projector.

Thoughts?

Yes, it will convert component --> HDMI. Review posts #1-6 on page 1 of this thread for more information.

I posted in the speaker section and was thinking my post may be better asked here. Because I have a Denon AVR-1912.

I have an older Mirage PS-10 subwoofer. I also have a Denon AVR-1912.
I am trying to set up my receiver to my speakers. I have two RCA input jacks. One says "input" and the other says "Xover Input". Which input do I need to plug into. I have my speakers set to "small." So I guess that means all of the bass sound will be directed to the subwoofer.. I just got a little confused on the two input options.

on that subwoofer, the INPUT jack connects to the internal low-pass filter and volume controls, that's why you see a line on the right connecting them visually:

the "XOVER" input is a direct input which bypasses the LPF and volume knobs.

What you should do is first try the "XOVER" input and see if Audyssey is able to return a channel level that isn't maxed out at +/-12dB. If that doesn't work, then you will have to use the "INPUT" jack, crank the LPF knob all the way up to 100, and then find out where on the volume knob you can get a "good" calibration (i.e. isn't maxed out at +/-12dB), probably somewhere around 3-5 on the volume knob.

Amazon lists the spec of the 1712 model to only include multi-EQ. Would that be a mistake ? or are there two versions of 1712 one with only multi-EQ and another with multi-EQ XT ?

no it doesn't "steal" info in the sense that nothing is subtracted from the other channels. The MULTICH STEREO mode simply copies, but it doesn't "extract" that sound from the L/R stereo channels.

So any stereo pair (e.g. L/R surround, L/R surround back) will get a copy of the main L/R stereo signal that goes to the front speakers, and the center channel will get a copy of in-phase sounds from the front two L/R channels.

As an experiment, you can physically disconnect all speakers except front L/R... toggle between STEREO and MULTICH STEREO and they should sound 100% identical. Nothing is "subtracted".

it's a mistake! why would you trust Amazon's generic specs that they "scraped" off somewhere else on the web???? do you think Amazon.com, with their millions of products, is an expert on the precise specs of Denon receivers?

as a general rule: TRUST US and the information in the first few posts in this thread over anything you find on some random website.

I left the 3312 on for while with HD Radio running. I then did a save.
The file is empty.

[disregard my comments. I misread your post above]

I'm starting to form the opinion that although Denon make great sounding AVRs, they are not so hot integrating IP into their core systems...not yet anyway.

next you're going to get a sneaky suspicion that they aren't real adept at writing owner's manuals.....

Hah!

Nope. I knew that before I purchased.
That's why it's good to have you folks and AVS around :P

for future reference, that kind of important detail (you don't have speakers and are passing audio through to the TV) are the types of things you should say from the beginning it makes it a lot easier to troubleshoot when we don't have to read your mind!

not picking on you, just using you as an illustrative example for others....

No offense taken. Thanks, you all are a great resource here! Btw, finally got my speakers and subwoofer in. Just ran Audyssey after reading Batpig's website and the giomania guide. Sounds great so far!

I know its been asked a few times and in the FAQ but I'm still trying to make sense of it.

Basically I set my Sub volume to 1/2 way ( 12 o'clock position), then run Audyssey. If it comes up to -12db, then I lower the volume on the actual subwoofer until I get it close to -3 or -4 db.

Then I continue the set up, and if I want to increase the sub volume without affecting Audyssey I use the CH button on the remote.?

I ask this as I ran it on my 1912, and the sub was set to -11db. Shall I leave it at that or try and lower the sub volume and get it closer to around the -3db mark? To me just seems if you keep lowering the physical sub volume, wouldn't it make the sub fairly quiet, or is it just a matter of turning it down a tiny bit to say 11 o'clock position to achieve the desired results.
^^
As noted before, you don't need to get it close to -3db, rather simply just get it off the pegged maximum of -12db. Lowering it further simply gives you more control to reduce the volume more with the remote control.

They are currently working the kinks out of the accompanying software and integration...

Someone mentioned a new firmware update for the 1912. Is that in fact accurate? If so, what does it address?
