Currently I have the set-top box going through the receiver so I am assuming no, unless I split it - right? The other question is, since I don't have a center yet, I can only watch TV or DVD via Stereo mode only - correct?

Thanks,

Batting 0... Both your assumptions are wrong!

Yes there is standby pass through - http://batpigworld.com/fadq.html#hdmi

And NO you are not stuck with stereo mode! You have surrounds so you can use any surround mode, the center will just mix down to the front L/ R speakers. Make sure to run Audyssey though so the receiver knows you have no center or sub.

I didn't run audssey. Could I rerun it once I add a center?

Thanks for the link bat.

Hi bonline, yes rerun Audyssey setup when adding speaker(s).

Thanks, that did the trick. Didn't realize I set the front speakers to large.

As long as you've got at least the two front main L/R speakers, you're going to always want to run AUTO SETUP when you first set up your AVR. You can always rerun it again when adding more speakers and/or a sub. Note that w/o a sub in the mix, the FL/FR speakers will be set to LARGE which you'll leave at that setting. Once you add a sub to the mix, you'll want to change them to SMALL w/80hz crossovers (if the AVR still sets them to LARGE).

So when the AVR is ON, and HDMI Audio Out is set to "AMP" and the WD TV Live is connected to HDMI1 (BD) jack and "assigned" to BD, the audio is passed through to the TV? Which HDMI jack is the HDMI Control Standby Source set to? You may need to reset the microprocessor (p. 96).

Anyone have a timeline on Denon releasing their inCommand App for Android? Haven't heard much about it since the summer.
^^
As noted in post #3, para 8(f), Smartphone apps, there is a FREE android app called AVR-Remote.

Thanks for the reply but I'm interested in Denon's release of the app on Android.

We have both iOS and Android devices in the our house and if I'm going to teach wife and daughter how to use it, I want it to be the same app on both platforms.

I've read a couple articles stating 'end of year' and have posted the question to DenonUSA FB wall. Will post back if I get an answer.

Yes -stand by set to TV. I plugged my ps3 into the hmdi BD part to test 'as if' it was the WD and audio/Video worked fine. I think it's either the hdmi cable or the WD unit. Not sure why I'd get the audio out of the TV but that's where I'll focus

is set to a specific HDMI jack #, rather than to a source name (p. 63).

Right - Yes- Stand By source is set to HDMI 3 (uVerse box HDMI)

I'm almost there in getting my 1612 set up the way I like. The unit goes to standby when powering off the tv through hdmi, but is there a way to have the avr also power on when the tv is turned on?

Do you have your wd live plugged into your tv with a composite red/white/yellow cable or an optical cable as well as a hdmi cable to your avr?

If so go into your wd live Settings and select Audio/Video and then select Video output --- HDMI (Auto) as well as Audio output ---- Digital Pass Through via HDMI Only.

I will try it myself when I get home but is there an automatic video select for non video inputs? Such as CD. On my 2yr old Onkyo 607 if you select CD it would play the audio inputed and the video would come from the last selected hdmi source.

Nope.

The Denon even found a firmware update and installed it. However I've noticed that the network light on the Trendnet for the connection with the Denon goes out and then the Denon cannot access the network. I also have a blu-ray dvd player connected to the Trendnet and it works without any problems whatso ever. Is there any reason the Denon is turning off it's network connection? I hope this was not a result of the firmware update. I have also done a network reset using the buttons on the Denon but this doesn't seem to have helped either. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

I have a Denon AVR-2112ci and the same Trendnet Media Bridge as you. It works flawlessly, with daily power off/on of the equipment. I suspect the problem is more likely to be with your router not the TEW-640MB or the 2112.

I use a smart power strip and have my receiver on a switched outlet so that when the tv is powered off, the receiver's power is also cut off. This means that I'm not going through any kinds of shut down of the receiver and power is simply being cut at the receiver's source. When I start up my tv, the receiver goes to standby rather than powering on. Is there a setting that will allow the receiver to always be on even after shutting it down at the power strip?

Also, when the receiver does power on, it is defaulting to TV and I would like it to default to my cable box or Quick Select 2. I've gone through the manual and couldn't find out how to select this as a default.

Any help or insight is appreciated. Thanks!

I also use a smart power strip, but unlike you I have the AVR as the master controlling switch. Then when I want to turn everything off, I just use the Denon remote to switch the AVR to standby and everything else shuts down (TV, Oppo BluRay player, Squeezebox Touch, big ole AV123 MFW-15 sub, and Trendnet media bridge). This setup has been working very well for me. In standby the AVR is using almost no power.

Thanks Turquoise. I tried that option, but I'm using a Tivo remote and while I can program the remote to power off the AVR, I can't seem to be able to get it to go to standby. I'm trying to keep things simple for my wife and have everything go through the Tivo remote. The Tivo remote only has one power button.

Because the AVR uses separate signals for on and standby, my guess is that I'll need to confirm if power on can be controlled via the tv and HDMI. I know that the AVR can go to standby when powering off the tv, but I can't figure out the powering on part. Can the tv signal the AVR to power on through HDMI?

Here's my setup:
HTPC connected to Denon 2112CI using HDMI.
When playing things that are encoded using 5.1 or 7.1 I get bass through the subwoofer just fine.
However, when playing files that are encoded for 2.0 (music through iTunes, etc) I do not get any bass at all through the subwoofer.

No matter what I am playing, the display on the receiver says MULTI IN BD.

Any ideas? This didn't happen with the previous 1909 I had.

SOLUTION: I had subwoofer set for LFE only. I set it to LFE+Main and all was fixed.
^^
If changing the sub to LFE+Main worked, it means you did not reset your front mains to SMALL w/80hz crossovers as is recommended.

The front display just went dark on my new 1712. It comes back on for a few seconds after hitting any button on the remote, then just goes completely dark again. Know issue?/?....Hopefully....Broken....Probably, as I have sh!!tty luck with stereos.

Hey i did a search through the thread and didnt come up with any results.

I am looking at buying the 1912 (euro model) and just wanted to know if the master volume effects both the main and zone 2 channels?

Also when you startup the avr from standby will zone 2 automatically turn on with last source used as well? Would be a tad annoying to have to seperately turn on zone 2 every time I start it up.

Reason I ask? I am hoping to be cheap for a couple of weeks and run 2 subs off the zone 2 by looping the sub preout with a y connector into analog in and running through the zone 2. Subs are 6 ohm and about 105dB+ effeciency so dont need a lot of power for reasonable listening. I figure audyessey will take care of timing delays from using zone 2.

Any thoughts?

Thanks.

Hi folks,

I am trying to win the stupid questions award. On the Denon 2112 - I am trying to figure out how to bring up the set-up wizard with the remote.

I am trying to do what batpig told me with regards to getting the audio on the TV without having the receiver on.

this isn't going to work well for a variety of reasons:

1 - master volume does NOT affect Zone 2
2 - zone 2 does NOT turn on automatically with main zone
(the whole point is that it is independent!)
3 - audyssey will NOT do a thing to zone 2
4 - zone 2 will NOT work with anything but analog inputs

EDIT: oops, meant to add that the better approach would be to set AMP ASSIGN to FRONT BIAMP which will convert the surr.back amps to mirror the fronts. You won't get a separate subwoofer channel (i.e. it will see SW = NO and FRONT L/R = LARGE) but at least you will have dedicated amps for the subs and the volume control will work on them too.

I had a bit of a rethink about this:

4 is a non issue as i will use the sub preout which is analog into the analog inputs.

3 is thus a non issue as long as I have zone 2 turned on when I run audyssey because audyssey effects the Sub preout thus affecting zone 2.

1 is a non issue as i will still be effecting the sub preout volume with the main volume anyway

2 is the only issue. If I want sub I need to turn on zone 2. I was just wondering if the avr started up again exactly the way it was put into standby eg same sources, same things running etc. but click a button to turn on the sub isnt the worst in the world for a few weeks.

This is a stop gap measure. i might even just run the sub preouts straight into my cda-254 2 channel amp as long as the 1912 has a good crossover slope.

Thanks for the reply though

I have a 1912 and ordered an XPA-5 and was wondering if I'll loose sound quality by using a line level converter since my avr doesn't have preouts. I also ordered the umc-1 but not sure which is the best option.

1. 1912 with XPA-5 using line level converters.

or

2. UMC-1 with XPA-5

Center: VC-25
