I have a Denon 1612 receiver that keeps going into protection mode when I turn it on (red flashing standby button at 2x/second). I can then turn it off an back on again and it starts fine. I checked all speaker wires with an ohm meter and no shorts. Also no shorts at receiver terminals. The only other option is "amp failure".

What exactly is meant by "amp failure". I can't see it as a failure if it starts right back up again. it only happens after the unit has been off for 4 or more hours. Unit is used daily and purchased in May 2011. Issue seemed to happen more frequently over the last few months and now happens with every start.

Is it worth trying with no speakers attached? The only thing I can guess is the power supply filter capacitors are bad or the sensor that detects overload is triggering too easily on startup (especially when the filter capacitors are starting from empty).

Does anyone else have experience with this? Suggest how to DIY a repair?
No Denon repair centers near me so ignoring the problem or a DIY fix is only option.

Will a denon 1312 be enough to power an energy 5.1 take system? Room is small. about 250 sqft.

I don't want to give my mom my onkyo since warranty / support in India is not that good & the 607 does not have variable power input. Has only 110, not 110/220.

The price of the 1312 is approximately 400$ USD here.

There isn't a receiver in existence that isn't enough to drive the take classics in a small room.

I recently set up my Denon remote to control my Samsung TV...afterwards when I switch to source Game 1 or BD I don't get any sound from the Denon. Funny thing is, I now get sound coming from the physical tv set if I turn the tv volume up.

Before setting up the Denon remote no sound would play from the tv, only the Denon. Does this have anything to do with programming the Denon remote to control my tv? Very wierd...

I still get sound from the Denon if I switch to Tuner or Pandora...

Does this make sense to anyone?

Yes of course. That is an essential troubleshooting step.

Unhook EVERYTHING and see if the problem still happens. If it does try unplugging for 10 minutes and the reset the microprocessor. If it STILL happens it is defective. Something is bad inside.

i haven't seen anyone post anything about this, but i just noticed that when i'm playing my ps3 fat MW3, i no longer see multi channel, but now i see dolby D. i am not sure if this is since the denon 2112ci firmware update or the recent ps3 update.. has anyone else noticed this??

it's not the Denon it's the source. The receiver can't change the input signal. You probably just need to redo the PS3 audio output settings. Or possibly they enabled DD output for games instead of having the PS3 decode to multich PCM.

anyway, regardless, it's not the receiver.

BP, as always your on the ball....i took my ps3 to a friends house and had to change setting so that we could hear the dvd, i thought i changed them back, but maybe i didnt. should i leave it as is, or switch back...would leaving it affect sound quality?

***i justed changed everything back to linear pcm.....it's still showing DD

I've replaced my 2310 with a 3312 and after I've connected everything my subwoofer starts humming. I've disconnected everything except for the subwoofer and it is still humming. How is it possible that the subwoofer is suddenly humming now?
Bad subwoofer cable or connection?
I've also tried another subwoofer cable and the subwoofer was still humming.

The subwoofer was working fine with the 2310, so I wonder what is different about the 3312.
Do you actually have the cable plugged into the subwoofer output on the 3312? I believe that receiver has preouts and analog multichannel inputs. You may have accidentally connected it to the sub input on the 3312.

What volume is your sub set to? Try testing the sub with your other receiver if you still have it.

Hi all, new to this forum. Here's my dilemma. I'm in the market for a new AVR, and I've been really looking at the Denon AVR 3312. I went to BB and told the rep I've been eyeing this receiver for all it's functionality. It has all the bells and whistles that appear to be a receiver I can enjoy for many years. The rep really tried hard pushing their Pioneer vsx52 saying that it's the best receiver and that Denon's are good, but not as good as the Elite brand. He obviously had me second guessing my decision. Can someone who owns this Denon assure me that this receiver is a better choice? The reason for me purchasing from them is the fact that I have a $200 gift card and the Denon is $100 off Msrp today only. Thanks in advance for all your help.

By the way my setup consists of all Polk audio products. TSI500 mains, cs 20 center, tsi100 surrounds and psw505 sub. I'm moving my current Yamaha rx-v667 to another room.

From my experience with BB reps, you probably know more than he does. I wouldn't let him disuade you--his opinion is likely based solely on his commission.

the 3312 is a fantastic machine. The Pioneer is great (incredible sounds) in itself but the audyssey XT implementation IMO is steps ahead of the pioneer correction0 system(MCAAC i think).
I have had both and Audyssey IMO is the better system. If the pioneer offerred that your choice would be tougher but given the Denon discount and your GC grab the 3312 and i gaurantee you will not be dissapointed.

I have the [infamous] AVR-123 MWF-15 sub. I had bought a smart power switch and hooked the sub so it was powered on/off by my Denon 2112CI AVR. Well suddenly it started humming. I did some research and found this was a notorious problem with the MFW-15 -- cheap caps on the amp going bad. A fairly easy replacement of those caps solved the problem. It obviously had nothing to do with my Denon.

If you still have your old Denon, can you hook your sub to it and see if you the hum is there too? If so, it is definitely a problem with your sub. BTW, what sub do you have?

Since Best Buy reps are paid hourly, not commission, it's more likely he was trying to sell you what was in stock and taking you out of the market which is what any salesman is supposed to do.

If you don't want input from salesmen then don't talk to salesmen. Go to crutchfield.com and click on "Buy Now".

Will a 4 ohm speaker work with the 3312? My center is 4 ohm and my other 6 speakers are 8 ohm. Is this going to be ok?

Reason for asking is I'm using an emotiva XPA-5 for my fronts (8 ohm), front wides (8 ohm), and center (4 ohm) and I'm wondering if I even need the amp. Or will the 3312 run these just as good?

Fronts: Klipsch VF-35
Front Wides: Klipsch VF-35
Center: Emotiva XRC 6.2
Surrounds: Klipsch VS-14

It may be close and you may not get full volume you will have to test and see if and when it will cut out and go into protection mode. Just wondering why you went to an emo center, when a klipsh center with the rest of your speakers would give you a smoother better SQ when they are timber matched.

When I bought the xpa-5, I also bought the umc-1 cause my 1912 didn't have preouts. When I ran emo-q, it got extremely loud and I thought it was how emo-q was. When it got to my center, it blew it cause it kept going higher. Ended up being a bad connection inside the umc-1 with the mic plug. Along with every other company, they only back their gear, but they were extremely nice and agreed to replace my center with what I requested.

As for the emo speaker, I really like it and I think it blends just fine with my klipsch.

So I'm going to finally setup the network on my 2112 tonight. Real quick if there's an available Firmware update should I proceed. Just want to make sure there's no known issues with latest firmware versions.

Very good of them. If you try running all speakers with your 3312 report back and let us know how that worked for you.

Buy is there any chance it will damage my avr?

It is not recommended to take it to the limit and over on a regular basis but there is no problem to test.

I've had my new AVR-2312CI for several days now and have been having lots of fun trying different settings. Some questions:

Is there a setting to delay the signal to the Zone 2 speakers? I can't find one and since they use the analog version of the digital signals for my inputs the Zone 2 speakers are slightly ahead of the main speakers. They are in adjacent rooms and the delay is just enough to be noticeable. As an alternative, is there a gadget that can be inserted in speaker connections to delay the signal?

What signals would I normally find on the DVR output jacks? I haven't experimented with these yet (they would be sent to a VCR) and the owners manual has some very confusing notes about zone 2 and the DVR outputs.

The auto-setup for the speakers did a very good job as far as I can tell. It detected my front L/R speakers as small (they are) but this is a 10-year-old Boston Acoustics 5.1 speaker system and the instructions are to wire both the front speakers and the subwoofer to the main front speaker outputs, plus connect the SW jack on the receiver to the SW input on the subwoofer. There is also an LFE input on the back of the subwoofer for receivers that have an "LFE-out" jack instead of a SW jack. After setup I changed the size of the front speakers from small to large per the speakers' instructions. Everything sounds great, but I am wondering it that's the best way to connect these speakers to a new-technology receiver.

Sidenote - the front speakers were found to be out of phase during setup. I verified that they are wired properly and ignored this error, but I was wondering if the dual connection to the front speakers and subwoofer might have confused the setup.

BTW - my favorite audio test is the "Fiber Bundles" track from the "Animusic 2" DVD and it sounds better than it ever did with my 10-year-old 5.1 receiver - especially the surround affects.

1. there is no delay setting for zone 2. There are external devices that can be inserted inline to provide delay but I'm not familiar with them.

2. the DVR output (as well as any other analog audio output) will be restricted in the same way as Zone 2 outs, i.e., analog audio only.

3. ignore the outdated instructions on your BA speakers and connect normally, i.e., speaker wire to the front speakers, and RCA cable to the SW LFE input from the sub pre-out on the receiver. Let the receiver handle the digital bass management.
