AFAIK, you must register first. I too was under the impression it would be fixed by firmware, although turns out that is not the case. List your issue and the work around you use to resolve it.

Perhaps the firmware on the NIC.

I'd be very surprised if that was the case. Its more of a video software issue, some conflict between the 480i output it sends through hdmi and the passthrough option (hdmi control).

Looks like its telling the amp to bypass it's own internal video output/overlay when set to on.

BB Magnolia carry this brand as well... just saying to compare them in your reasearch...from a very happy long time owner of them. I have had mine Front L/R and CC for almost 10 years now and they sound as good as ever. I am considering moving them to the surround position and buying 2 new front L/R from Def Tech... just have to wait to evaluate the wallet condition after Xmas.

Are you talking about the ProCinema 600 System or Difinitive Tech speakers in general? Thanks!

I just bought this thing and tried hooking up the HDMI from the "out" in the cable box to the "sat/cabl" HDMI in on the Receiver but it doesn't work, no audio or video. HDMI cable is fine, what should I do?

I went through the manual for the setup and what is confusing is that when I hook up the cable box "out" HDMI to the receiver "Game" HDMI it works just fine so it can't be the signal from the "out" on the cable box.

Thanks for your help.

You do have an HDMI cable monitor output from the receiver to the TV right?

If so, it sounds like you might have gotten one with a bad HDMI input on it... but I could be wrong.

I actually own the BP20 series.. I have it paired with the matching non powered CC speaker of the same year. A week ago I listened to the BP8060 (# may be wrong). They look very similar to mine, but significantly smaller. They had 2 models...those and a smaller pair. If your room isn't too large, I'd think they would be fine. I am not familiar with the procinema, but they are not large enough for my listening satisfaction..I am also not sure that they are bipolar. After checking their website, it looks like the BP7002 would be similar to mine...based on cost/look only. I did not look at the specs. Currently I am trying to convince myself I NEED the BP7000SC, although It would most likely be overkill/stupid for my budget/needs lol

I just suggest in your research/demo to consider them, as the enveloping and clear sound from these may be enticing.

You just need to enter your e-mail and any password I believe.

But if they are saying they have to replace the NICS on a low number of units, it would not point to general FW being the culprit.

Who said anything about replacing a NIC?

Hi. I'm having a problem with a small home theater running through an AVR 1712 and I hope someone here may be able to help me figure out what is going on.

Here's my set up:
Apple TV(2) to AVR via HDMI
Sony BD Player to AVR via HDMI
AVR to Sony Bravia LCD Television via HDMI
Comcast cable connected to Sony Bravia directly (no set top box, etc.)
Optical audio from Sony Bravia to AVR

This has been working flawlessly since I purchased the 1712 in September. Mysteriously, when I turned the system on yesterday, I no longer had video coming from the AVR to the television--audio still goes back and forth, but no picture from the AVR; no Netflix menu, no iTunes menu, no Denon GUI overlay, nothing. I can hear all those things, but I can't see anything. I can still see cable TV, so I don't think there is anything wrong with the display itself.

Here's what I have tried so far:
Connected individual devices to Sony Bravia via HDMI (picture is visible)
Replaced HDMI cable from the AVR to the Sony Bravia
Tried different HDMI cables from devices to AVR
Switched HDMI ports between devices and AVR
Powered down, unplugged and reconnected everything
Reset the Apple TV
Reset the microprocessor on the 1712

None of these efforts has made any difference. I can't think of anything else to try. It seems to me that the HDMI output port on the 1712 may have stopped working, but that seems rather strange. Is there something I'm missing? Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
George

On my 2112 I have finally set up speakers and run through calibration. So I have changed hdmi audio from "tv" to "amp", yet the sound is still getting to the tv and not the amp. The only connections between my components and the 2112 is hdmi, so it just appears to be refusing the "amp" setting. Any ideas? I have unplugged and am taking a little break . . .

If your tv has CEC turn it to off if that doesn't work try a microprocessor reset you can save your settings using the web control feature.

If you haven't already you can try different hdmi inputs on your tv after that try another micro reset. If no luck you will probably need service.

Good call Spager. Turning "viera link" off (default is on) seems to have solved my issue. Thanks much!

Thanks for your reply, Spager. My TV is a few years old and has only one HDMI input. New cables, different configurations, and resetting the microprocessor hasn't remedied the situation for me. I just want to make sure there isn't something else that I'm overlooking.

I bought the 1712 from Best Buy and they have been pretty generous with returns/exchanges in the past. I think I'll head up there tomorrow to see if they can't help me figure something out. If I have to send it off for repairs I will, but would rather not.

Thanks again,
George

First, Batpig and jds, awesome info guys. I just got the AVR2112 yesterday and have been loving it. My question is regarding ARC in this section on page 1...

b. AVR switches to TV source when first turned ON: This occurs because you have the HDMI-CEC/ARC feature on your TV set to ON as well as HDMI Control on the AVR set to ON. There are several work arounds to prevent this from happening depending on whether you want to pass audio from the TV back to the AVR: 1. Only set ARC to ON when you want to actually use that feature, 2. Connect an optical cable from the TV to the AVR and don't use the ARC feature which will result in the same level of audio quality; or don't want to pass audio back to the AVR but do want to use the HDMI Control feature to turn the TV ON/OFF with the AVR (use the Source Delete feature to delete the TV source).

I have my Denon connected to a Samsung UN60D8000 which I am using to stream content from my iMac, therefore Im using ARC to get the audio for the streams which is working out nicely, other than defaulting to TV. So from the above, the only option I have here is to either run a fiber for sound or don't stream to the TV? Seems kinda weird Denon would implement this feature like this. I would think I could pick my input choice.

Welcome.

2. This may be an issue with the DirecTV box. Also try all of the HDMI inputs

So I've been messing with this trying different things. If the intermittent audio drop outs correct themselves by moving to a different HDMI input, does that mean I have something wrong with the Sat/Cabl HDMI input?

Thanks again

No ... use ARC when you want to pass audio from the Sammy to the AVR and turn it OFF when you're not using it, although you could also use Airplay to stream from the iMac directly to the AVR as well.

No it means that with that particular port you are fortunate to solve your handshake issue. The source in that particular port that was giving you handshake issues may not have handshake issues with another source.

Not necessarily, it likely just means it won't work with that particular device. Try connecting another device to it and it will likely work without issue. As has been noted on previous year's models, the HDMI inputs are not all created equal.

I am looking for the denon avr-2112ci. I saw they were running special pricing after they were launched. Does anybody snow of anything special going on now? I've looked all over the net to no avail. I saw something about electronics expo possibly selling cheaper if you call them. Thanks in advance.

I just called them today and they quoted me $449.99 including shipping. I won't have to pay sales tax either.

Is there a list of the differences between the different HDMI inputs on the 2312? I tried switching from input 3 to 1 and reassigned. Problem still occured. Happy to keep trying other inputs but was wondering if there was some guidance to say input 6 is different than input 1-3.

Prior to getting the denon I had this DTV receiver connected directly to TV via HDMI and did not experience these problems. As a troubleshooting step, I have connected the DTV receiver again directly to the TV via HDMI and have had no drop outs.

I'm not suggesting the denon is the problem, but there seems to be some issue with the HDMI signal when the denon is in the mix.

I have found similar threads on DTV forums - some users have Denon receivers as well, but others have experienced them with other receivers.

Still troubleshooting.

I'm exhausted! I spent all day researching speakers and listening at BB Magnolia. I am more confused than ever. They didn't have the Def Tech Pro Cinema 800 speakers to audition but then had a Mythos Gem that the salesman said sounded about the same. I don't see how that can be when the Gem is $279 and the 800 is $145 but he didn't have one I could hear. I listened to some others including B&W CM1 that I liked the size of and the fact that it was white. The LR speakers will sit on a white painted built in bookshelf. They are $500 each. Then I could get a separate center in black that would go under my black TV. That one is $650. I looked everywhere on the internet for a better deal on the B&W's but couldn't find anything. They were also recommending a Rel subwoofer - it's little in size and don't remember the model #. That is another $600. I liked the sound of the Def Tech speakers until I listened to the B&W's and the difference was huge. I also called around for the Denon AVR-2112ci and found the best price at Electronics Expo at $449.99 including shipping. The salesman is also checking to see if he can get the Def Tech Pro Cinema 800 speakers in white and thinks I could get them for $1,099 including shipping (and tax). The MSRP is $1,199. I wasn't able to find a better price on those. He will call me tomorrow to let me know if he can get them at that price or better. Is there anything else I should look at for speakers in this price range? I could go as high as about $1,600 since I saved the $200 on the receiver. I don't want huge speakers and prefer white but the color is not a deal breaker. I could go about 15" tall and about 10" wide give or take a couple inches. Also, are there any other places to go to audition speakers other than BB Magnolia? We have a high end home theatre store in our area but I checked and they don't carry any of the brands that I see most talked about in this thread. Thanks for your help! This is an excellent forum - I'm learning a lot (painfully so!)

I'm fighting this problem as well and I think it is neither of those things, I think it is a DHCP problem. In a couple of days I'll know. I think the GUI locks up when the AVRs DHCP lease expires.

I emailed them and the response was "it would be easier if you called us"

Off topic but - Anybody else think its kewl to have a female interested in home theater posting here? I'm willing to bet there aren't too many in here unless they are related to a guy who regularly posts. My wife makes it abundantly clear that she has no interest in this sort of thing and never will.

Have you considered Klipsch speakers? Your high end home theater store would probably carry them.
