The **OFFICIAL** Denon AVR-XX12 Model Owner's Thread - Page 253

Hey all

I have restarted my effort to identify the "right" refurbished low-to-mid range Denon AVR model, but have found it necessary to comb through various years' "Official" threads to be able to figure out which models have which features.

Am I missing some useful comparison table that has been compiled somewhere? In case I have not, then the attached rough draft may serve as a starting point that could be useful to other "bargain hunters" comparing models from the past couple of years. I've filled in quite a bit, but folks like batpig or jdsmoothie could probably fill in some of the blanks in their sleep.

I have attemped to relate model "families" and within each to show feature progression by year. My selection of features to compare is highly subjective; for instance, I don't yet have a row showing number of HDMI inputs, because as of today I only own 1 device capable of outputting in HDMI!

Comments welcomed.

Thanks and Happy New Year.

Hi

Just hooked up my 1712. Question about audio for the component connections. I have a game system connected with component cables and I don't know where to connect the audio cables? When setting up the game1 port there is no option for analog audio?

thanks

Need help with another question? I am using paradigm ADP170 for surrounds and I get an out of phase warning during setup. The speakers are wired correctly.

Should I just skip the error?

Hi byeloe, is the game system audio digital or analog? If analog, use DVD RCA-1 video and DVD analog audio input and rename the Input (Xbox, Wii, etc...).

If all is connected correctly, just skip.

Thanks Jchin,

So I won't be able to use the component cables from the game system?

I can't see why you can't use component cables, what game system is it?
It's a gamecube, but there are only 2 component connections, game1 and game2 and during setup they only allow digital audio assignments. I have analog audio only
post #7569 of 17926
^^^ you can not use Game1 and Game2 since there are no Game1 and Game2 analog audio. Use the available name analog audio input thats not taken already by your HDMI sources.

i connected the audio to the dock input, but now the audio and video are on different inputs. Video on component (RCA 1) and Audio on Dock.
Is it possible to sync these inputs?

OK, so this would be more of a personal preference thing than an absolute no-no, based on the perceived sound quality?

Input Assign
Default ----HDMI----Digital----Component
Dock ------none-----none-------RCA-1--

Double check your connections first. I was sure I'd connected all of mine correctly when I got the out of phase error for the right surround speaker. Upon checking, sure enough, I some how managed to connect it backward

There is no analog video component conversion in the 1712 so you will have to hook up the gamecube video directly to TV or run a component cable from your gamecube to avr and assign it to the same source as used for your analog audio. Then run a cable from component out on avr to component in TV.

My 2312 should arrive Tuesday. I have access to a hard wired internet connection. I am a little nervous about doing a firmware update when the unit tells me it needs it. It is just about the only thing that, if you brick the unit, you are dead in the water. Are there any failsafe things to do to prevent "bricking" and is it a very rare problem?
^^
Yes, very rare indeed.

Correct ... as is the case in most instances when folks ask which is the best surround setting as well.

Maybe try resetting the Xbox unit itself.

Well....I decided to take defeat and just plugged the xBox directly into the TV via Component. The sounde is going through the Denon via digital connection, so I'll have good sound. I guess there is really no reason not to go directly into the TV unless I was interested in some 3D play, huh? If I get a new xBox, I'll do the HDMI connection. Thanks for the input though....this forum really is a GREAT resource.

The remote app has quit working suddenly. I get an error that says "connection failed, check unit". I don't know what to check!? I can play Internet radio fine and I can see the unit on my home network, so I don't understand the inability to connect. In fact, even as the error message is displayed on my phone, the receiver will still respond to the volume control. The only other active key is the "quit" button which shuts down the app. Deleting and reinstalling the app did not change the problem. Any ideas?

Anyone have any idea when the Denon website will be back up? I'm trying to find out some information on bluetooth connectivity on the xx12 and xx11 models? Specifically, if the 3311 has it and if not what models do?

Try shutting off avr and iPhone and turn on avr first, then your iPhone. If that doesn't work you could try powering down avr and iPhone then reboot your router/modem and restart avr then iPhone.

Thanks, I've tried shutting off both the AVR and the iPhone, but not in that order. I will try your suggestion and also try rebooting the modem and router. I don't dare interrupt my wife's enjoyment of the Rose Parade just now however!

Another possible clue is that in iTunes, though I can see the AVR 2112CI as a choice for the speakers, I cannot select it. It reverts back to the computer speakers instead. Related? I can control the AVR just fine from my computer remote however, so this seems like an Apple-related problem?

I have a 2112 and mine was taking forever to connect. I turned the network to standby through the GUI, and now I can turn the receiver on hrough the denon app. It just turns the NIC card in the receiver on, even when the power is off. It always has a connection to the Internet and always has an IP address.

Hit the stop button below the play button and that should disconnect the Network when you want it off, or turn off Network Standby and your network will shut down when you power down avr.

I'm also trying to get the audio from digital video stream via my Samsung TV to play through the AVR speakers (I expected the ARC via the TV input on the AVR to do the trick...). But no sound. How do I turn ARC on/off on my 2312 as per the above reply?

Thanks,

Andrew

Hi Andrew, set "HDMI Control" to ON (see page 1, post #3, Features 5e).

Menu -> System Setup -> HDMI Setup

Ok, got the app working again. Shutting everything off and rebooting (including the router) allowed me to re-enter the ip address, which seems to have done the trick. Thanks.

Denon AVRs do not support bluetooth connectivity.

Hi experts and friends-

I have an AVR 1912 and using the ipod with USB I thought that I can get audio out of all of the 5.1 speakers but only can out of the fronts and center. Am I doing something wrong with the set up or is that the only sound config I can get??

Thx y'all to this amateur!
^^
You can get simulated 5.1 using either DD PLII - Cinema or Music.
