Do you have any info on what the App can do on an Iphone as far as controlling zone 2, as it says it can do basic functions. I would like to know if you use this App, and if it controls on/off, station selection, input and volume control?
Thanks

Sorry, but no personal experience with remote apps, however, AFAIK, it does control basic functions for both the main and Zones 2/3. The link below describes in more detail ...

Also note the app is FREE so you can download it and try it out yourself at no cost.

IN my lving area I have my 2112, Samsung BD player and Xbox 360. However I only have 1 jack for ethernet. Is it safe to install a multiport switch and connect everything to the switch? Sometimes I play music from my PC that is connected by the same router, but I have to disconnet my xbox to connect the 2112.
If by chance the AVR is playing music through the network and the xbox is online, could I see a issue in signal?
I'm fairly competent with networking, just wondering if others are doing this with success.
For the record, I like everything hardwired. That's why the Xbox is on the same Cat5 connection.

Thanks in advance.

yes, you can use a switch...

network congestion issues would be entirely dependent upon your individual network...

Yeh .. if you're within the return period, likely the best thing to do.

They will exchange the receiver. Is it worth it to get an extended warranty?

If you're buying from an authorized Denon reseller, the 3312CI comes with a 3 year warranty which should be more than sufficient. Also note that if you purchase with a credit card, your card provider will likely add 1 more year (Amex does this for sure) making it a total of 4 years.

However, I can not get my 1912 to connect to it. I've already tried resetting the processor and the network as per the OP. Anybody have a suggestion? Thanks in advance

I haven't done it with Denon, but I've installed a number of AEX units as bridges in various homes.

Basic networking troubleshooting should be your first step.

Ignore the fact that you can access the external hard drive. Apples uses all kinds of tricks (including IPv6, bonjour, etc.) which can allow such services to run without a normal, valid IP address, but your Denon cannot.

Step one is simply plug in your laptop instead of your Denon AVR. That way you can make sure you're getting an IP and valid internet connection, and bypass the lack of troubleshooting tools offered by the Denon in the meantime. If your laptop pulls an IP and you can surf the web no problem (be sure, of course, to turn off your wireless card so you're only accessing via the network wire), but the Denon cannot when connected via that same wire, then your issue is with the Denon.

Hi, I'm having similar issue with 2112ci trying to connect via Telnet (Putty or AbsoluteTelnet). 2112ci appears to be rejecting the connection attempt. HTTP works fine.

Do you have Network Standby turned on? Yes

What happens when you send the string PW?0x0D? Cannot get that far, rejects connection attempt in Putty.

What happens when you connect to the telnet port (I use Putty to do so)? It refuses the connection. In absolute Telnet app get a verbose error message

Connecting to 192.168.1.100:23
Attempting 192.168.1.100:23... Failed: Connection Refused
Connect to 192.168.1.100 failed. Winsock Error: Connection Refused

Can you control the AVR with the web browser interface? Yes

I have been reading through the posts about airplay issues so I am wondering... I am using a dynex switch that i bought from best buy. Along with airplay issues I can get the touch app or the android app to recognize the amp. Could the switch be preventing any outbound communication? I am not sure how to check the switch...I use a motorola sbg6580 modem and motorola service said that there is no blocking after i got in and read him all the settings.

If it's just a switch, can't you bypass the switch and connect the cable directly to the AVR?
that would be my assumption as well

A simple switch shouldn't be a problem. My AVR is connected to my router through a switch as well (Trendnet gig switch), and no problems.

Have a denon 1912 set up for 5.1 surround, PS3 and Epson 8350 projector. I have it more or less working. HDMI from PS3 into AVR and out to proj. Normally watch blue rays, dvds, play games and watch SD and HD downloads from Playstation store. Two questions though.

1. what is the normal 'default' surround setting? There seem to be about 3 or four movie modes and I can't tell much of a difference. Can it just automatically pick based on input from source? eg bluery DVD or download. if so, how?

2. related to number 1. I downloaded standards def version of toystory 3 from PS network and could only get the sound to come out of the front two speakers not surround sound of any kind. Played with all sound modes. best I got was when I switched modes on AVR to 'virtual'. I got sound out of all speakers except center and sub, but all sound came out of all speakers. i.e. voices etc, not surround. PS3 video/audio outputs set to auto. Any suggestions what I did wrong?

1. depends on the input signal, if the audio is Dolby Digital 5.1 it will say "DOLBY D", if it is a TrueHD soundtrack it will say that, etc. On pg 44-45 of the manual there is a chart showing what the display says depending on the signal / surround mode.

2. that is a PS3 issue, it is taking the 2ch audio but broadasting a multichannel PCM signal with "blank" channels so the receiver doesn't "know" it's only stereo and blocks out the surround upmix modes.

it's VERY important that you learn to learn to check INPUT SIGNAL and SURROUND MODE (output) information if you want to start understanding what's happening in terms of signal types and surround sound. I suggest you check out the Audio section of my FAQ as a starting point: http://batpigworld.com/fadq.html#audio

Agreed. I need the switch to work as I have a ps3,xbox and a dish box also. I will try to connect directly. If that works what else could it be?

It's hard to understand your english as you keep saying "can" when you likely mean "cannot". Can you connect the AVR to the network with the switch for internet radio stations and use the web control feature?
I'm sorry. I read the post and saw that I put can before the ipod and android apps I do mean cannot. The internet radio works fine through the switch, it also downloaded the firmware update when I wired the avr up in the last week od December. In order to connect the avr directly I will need to move a large wall unit. I work nights in a steel mill and am leaving for work soon so I will try that tomorrow. I am wondering if dynex support would have any answers unless you have any thoughts?

Looking at a Dynex switch owner's manual there are no settings ... rather it just works or it doesn't and as you're able to make an internet connection, it's not likely the switch.

If the AVR works perfectly when you connect directly to the router, but does NOT work when you connect it to a switch first (and then the switch to the router), then the problem is clearly the switch. Replace the switch with a different one.

A properly-working switch should not cause the problem you are describing.

I have a Blu ray player, HD DVD, AppleTV, Denon AVR, and occasionally a laptop all plugged into the same 8-port switch in my living room, which then goes to my router. No problems.

Again, step one should be to make sure you can pull an IP normally when plugged into the same switch (preferably with the same wire, too, to rule out a simple bad cable) with a laptop.

Are these the first products from Denon to support AirPlay?

Have any of the various firmware updates specifically been to address AirPlay issues?
^^^

no, it was available as an upgrade on some of last year's models...

the airplay "issues" aren't unique to avrs, so i doubt a firmware fix could be made... i have several airplay devices in my home... the disappearing icon would not happen if it was only the avr having the issue (i.e. the icon would still be there showing the other devices)...

it's something with the airplay architecture itself... there's a few theories as to what... but until apple "fixes" whatever is causing it to happen, there's nothing that can be done on the avr...

hth...

AirPlay in an AVR might be more interesting if it supported video too. AVRs would I guess need an SOC though.

But if Apple could put together an AirPlay-video box for $99, maybe it could be integrated into AVRs without too much cost.

To date, Apple has not been willing to license anyone to use AirPlay for video. Audio only for all third-party devices, you'll notice. Only the AppleTV2 offers AirPlay video streaming.

Not sure if the AirPlay (audio) issues are Denon's fault or Apples. All I can say is AirPlay on my AppleTV2's (both of them) has been pretty darned reliable, unlike my experience with the Denon's. My Denons work ok, but frankly it's usually just plain easier to fire up the ATV instead. Just one press of the Harmony remote and it's there...

Soft restart fixed this , thanks. Any idea why this was necessary? I can still return the AVR, should I and get a different one?

Due to my component arrangement, continuously power cycling the 2112 is not a practical option even if I were so inclined, which I am not on a brand new unit. Any suggestions appreciated. Also, are the 2312 and 3312 experiencing similar issues, or is this isolated to the 2112? I have never had this issue with my 3311.

Thanks.

I'm not familiar with that router but you need to make sure multicast is enabled. Some of the pro integrators like using the Cisco APs and those have multicast turned off by default and as a result Airplay doesn't work with them out of the box either.

Are there any other ways to troubleshoot and diagnose why youtube through vierracast does not have sound going to my AVR, just video.

I beleive I have everything set just right.

Thanks.
I'm guessing my problem is a simple one to fix, I just can't figure it out over the past two weeks.

Should I still have SAT/CBL be the input if I am trying to get vieracast content audio back to AVR?

I used to have a stereo jack coming out of the GT30 (which I could not get to work either) to return the audio to a different receiver, is this the problem?

Do you think it is a problem on the Pany or the Denon? Any way to tell?

Thanks
Christian

Thanks for the info guys! I will try to connect directly when I get up tomorrow afternoon. Will also try switching cables. If I get It to work properly will the icon come on automaticly or will I need to switch it on in the settings?
