AIRPLAY! Noplay!

I have a dumb question - do I need to buy anything else (cable?) to hookup to my 2112ci to get Airplay to work? The unit is nowhere near the ethernet router (different floor), so running cable is out of the question.

ummm... yes... the avr needs to be connected to your network in order for airplay to work...

Both models will provide similar audio quality, however, as the 3312 does not offer the 7.1 analog inputs, it would seem your choice has been made ... the 6006.

Yes, an optical to coax converter would work, although adding an optical switch would work just as well. Also note that although the optical and coax digital inputs are "assignable" to other source names, the analog audio inputs are NOT, rather you must use the source name on the input's label. Another WAF solution is to purchase a Harmony remote.

@jds,
Thanks for the quick response. I did know that analog inputs weren't assignable (from reading this comprehensive thread along with batpig's Setup Guide), but I overlooked the fact that the 2112 didn't have an analog input designated for the TV source. Silly me.

What else goes on behind the scenes when TV source is activated? Does it do anything more than just selecting the designated audio input (either optical or coax)?

Also, many thanks to you for your herculean contributions to this thread. The wealth of info here together with batpig's Denon's resource were a big factor in my choosing the 2112 over competing brands.

Is there an attachment I can buy to get it to work wirelessly? It is too far from where the ethernet is!

do you need the mch analog inputs? if so, that kinda makes your decision for you...

Take a few minutes and read the Networking section of post #3 of this thread.

I normally keep the unit completely switched off when not in use. I don't physically remove the power cable; but turn the main switch off where the Power plug is connected to the wall mains. for e.g. i may keep the unit in standby during peak viewing/listening times; but switch of the main power at night and afternoon.

Would like to hear from other 1912 owners. Mine is the Singapore version; which is what gets imported in India. It has the Audyssey multEQ XT version and the input mode changing dial on the left; which is probably missing in the US version of 1912.

Thanks
Mahesh

This "loss of settings when power is removed from the unit issue (ie. not just in Standby)" has been noted by some Denon 4311CI owners as well, although is apparently only an issue with a select few units. Suggest you discuss with your local Denon rep for service/exchange advice.

I started with this:

http://www.amazon.com/Cisco-Linksys-...7290449&sr=8-2

When I bought some more toys and I needed some more flexibility, I switched to this:

http://www.amazon.com/Linksys-WES610...7290014&sr=8-1

I was very pleased with the results in both cases. (The advantage of the second unit is that it has four ports. Four devices can be connected simultaneously.)

Cheers,

I was hoping it was just a firmware thing and had decided to just live with it until I read jd's post. 701.00 bucks and I would like the thing to working right. Four calls to Denon and they are no help what so ever. You would think they could ship me a tested working unit, they said they are aware of the issue but have no idea whats causing it and took down my phone no# and email and would call if they figued it out, So if anybody knows where I can order a WORKING 2112 from let me know.

Yeah, me too. At this point I've resorted to just using the iPhone App when the net/usb source is selected. At least the GUI comes up every time on that. I'd consider returning my 2112 for another one, but it does not sound like Denon has a positive fix yet so doing that seems pointless.

I have been troubleshooting an issue for months and it seems to reside with my Denon receiver.

My setup:
Cable - Uverse box > Denon AVR2112CI > Samsung LNT40461
HTPC - Dell 580s > Denon AVR2112CI > Samsung LNT40461

All cables are short, 3 ft HDMI cables (Monoprice) connecting the components above.

I can watch movies for five to 45 minutes before the video signal drops and the TV displays a "Weak or No Signal" while sound still plays out of my receiver.

When I run from the HTPC directly to the TV I cannot reproduce the issue.

I had the HDMI board replaced in my unit but the issue remains. I did this also in hopes that it might fix the NET/USB issues reported in the above posts which it might have although I have not used the feature much since the board was replaced.

Here are some other things I have done to troubleshoot:
  • Ensured the receiver had the latest firmware. Had to upgrade again anyway after the HDMI board was replaced two weeks ago
  • Tested computer component heat with speedfan and other utilities - no concerns
  • Made sure video drivers were up to date. Uninstalled device on HTPC, reinstalled and updated again, just in case.
  • Tried different HDMI cables (lengths and brands)
  • Tried different HDMI inputs through both the receiver and the TV
  • Ensured Anynet+ (HDMI CEC) was "Off" on Samsung
  • Updated firmware on TV
  • Updated BIOS on HTPC
  • I'll add other items as I remember them...

Thanks again!

do you got an Nvidia GeForce GT425M based videocard

try this

Hey everyone just letting you know that I did get this problem fixed...today. I ended up putting in the NVidia GT 430 video card in, but still had problems with HDMI with the screen consistently flashing to black and putting the 1080P signal indicator up in the right-hand corner of the screen.

The funny thing is...if I turned the Denon AVR off and let it run in bypass mode using the same exact HDMI cables, everything worked fine. Ugg! This behavior was the same with the Intel HD 3000 graphics as well (no HDCP errors). So, I thought it was a Denon issue and contacted them...which was pretty useless as they said it was a handshaking issue and that I'm pretty much on my own.

Then there is Intel and how they still have not resolved HDMI repeater issues with their graphics cards: http://software.intel.com/en-us/blog...-repeaters-and...
They even admit that they need to look into it and fix it...but even after years, the problems still exists.

Anyways, the MOST critical fix on the NVidia GT 430 was to make the following setting in the NVidia Control Panel (which is defaulted to Auto):

Display->Adjust deskop color settings->Apply the following enhancments->Content type reported to the display->Full-screen video

This information was provided to me by a fellow AVSForum private message. Thanks to all for helping me out! Now to finally enjoy my HTPC! Smile

Just wanted to thank all the contributors to this forum. Such great information.

I have solved the problem I sighted in one of my posts, that being the Analog input of DVD player not showing up on the tv. Turns out, my HDMI cable was not plugged in all the way to the TV. I had pulled it out when I hooked my computer up and it still was not working. Once out, I plugged back in and found that it felt like in, but it then slipped in another 1/8th or 1/4 inch further, and suddenly all was good. GUI was fine and signal from DVD player was showing.

Also, the issue I posted on regarding my drives not being recognized and the system streaming, tVersity has solved that problem for the most part. Thanks for the suggestion.

Still having one problem though. I do not seem to be able to play the DVD files I have stored on my hard drive. It sees them but I get the error message of "Wrong File Format" on the Denon GUI when I try and play the files it lists for me in the movie folders. Any thoughts anyone?

Thanks again for all you do here at AVS Forum.

Cheers^

You really should have a hardwired connection. If you have a internet connection anywhere on the same floor, you can use a gigabit switch and add another connection point. If you are unable to do this, there are products that plug in to your electrical house system and use those wires to carry the internet signal, thus not having to re-wire for Cat 5 connection.

No models will stream video only audio. For that you will need a third party hardware like wd live, boxee box, ps3 etc...

I have not updated my receiver to the latest firmware yet as it is working. Does the latest firmware mess anything up? Should I update? Thanks.

Update.... I just got off the phone with Denon and was told that there is no way it's a hardware issue with the missing net/usb video, said it was totally a software thing and they are working on a fix. So I have decided to keep my 2112ci, Love this thing other than this one issue.

I just picked up one of these, is there any way to connect it directly to my denon 1912 (e.g. a port or anything) or do I have to use the sticky blaster? I noticed a control dock port, but connecting it to that doesn't appear to do anything.

If I have to use the blaster, where abouts on the front does it go? I can't find the sensor with a flashlight.
I believe model 2112 and up allows connection in back. Check page 1 for the IR sensor.

Check post #6 for a list of issues resolved with the latest firmware update. If you're not experiencing any issues then there's no reason to install the update.

The "control dock" port is for an iPod dock. As noted the 2112CI is the lowest level model with an external IR sensor jack. Refer to the picture on p. 112 in your Owner's manual, the IR sensor is located just off left center on the front panel display.

Is there anything unique about the dock input settings that would prevent it from being used with any device using an S-video output and analog audio (e.g. a VHS player)?
^^
AFAIK, any S-video device should work as is, although some older models require a 3.5mm plug inserted into the Control Dock jack in order to enable the S-video input.

Yeah, it definitely seems to be a soft/firmware problem. Unplugging and allowing the receiver to reboot brings it back. I'm actually glad to hear this as it holds out hope for a firmware update fix.
^^^
I have found that disabling network standby, powering off into standby mode, then powering back on also resolves the missing Net/USB video screen. This works better for me than unplugging since my power cords are hard to reach without moving components,
post #8429 of 17929
^

If any body else can verify it works this would be a way easier work around until Denon can come up with a fix.
And a related question, for those who experience this issue, do you have Network Standby set to On when it happens?
