Specs-wise, basically 6-8 ohms impedence and at least average efficiency (89+dB sens) works out very well in average rooms. If you can, spend much more (2X+) on speakers than the AVR, this matters a lot irt overall SQ. The speaker and sub threads have lots of suggestions for getting good SQ for a value price for various OEMs and models. If you will listen to 2 ch music a lot, I recommend some towers for FR/L with small passive woofers (5-6"). I would not invest in big woofers or powered woofers. Instead, you'll want a decent sub (again, see the sub threads-this is another several hundred $ well spent) which can certainly be from a different OEM but the the CC and surrounds should be timbre-matched ie from the same speaker line of the FR/L OEM.

I was thinking the same thing. I guess its good it lasted a whole year. In that case I really need to get rid of my ancient 3310 because its 2 years old.

So I have an AVR-1912 and I'm having a little bit of buyers remorse. Since there appear to be no analog outs for zone 1, does this mean that it is impossible for me to get my TV to go out to the zone 2 speakers? Maybe I could send the audio signal to my TV, use the analog outs on it and pass a wire back to an input on my receiver. Wonder if that is even possible. This is really disappointing, should have read up first but I bought it before this thread was formed

The website states that the AVR-1312 supports HDMI passthrough while in standby. Can someone confirm this?

The website is incorrect. The 1612 is the lowest model that supports HDMI Standby pass through, Audyssey, and Audio Return Channel (ARC).

Didn't know that. Guess that's just one more reason to stick with Windows XP since that's the last version of Windows where you could output both digital and analog audio concurrently.

No worries ... as long as you can limit your main zone to 5.1 you can use the Amp Assign/Surr Back speaker posts for a powered Zone 2.

5 analog inputs is quite a few ... considering most only use HDMI connections for the main zone and generally only 1-2 sources are normally going to be sent to Zone 2 let alone 5.

Also, keep in mind that the 3312CI can pass digital PCM 2.0 to Zone 2 via optical/digital coax.

I just set up my new AVR-1612 today, connected to a Sony KDL55NX720 TV, an OPPO BDP-93 Universal Player, plus a Yamaha 5-disc CD player and a Denon CD-R, connected via digital optical and coax respectively. I replaced my Denon AVR-1803 which bit the dust.

The TV/Cable and OPPO are just amazing in 5.1 Dolby after running through the Audyssey setup.

My question: My AVR-1803 "simulated" 5.1 output from my CD player and the effect was very pleasing...driving all 5 speakers and filling our large family room. However, the only output I've been able to set from the CD player is Stereo (plus SW).

Is there a way to make the 1612 send 5.1 out while playing a CD? I've scoured the Owner's Guide and not been able to come up with anything.

I have read all 4 pages and couldnt suffice my questions. I will start by saying I have a 988 and love the thing. I want to get a new unit for a dedicated room. I will be pairing it with a Panasonic PT-ae4000u projector (1080p), an xbox 360s, HD Directv sat. box and a 3D capable blu ray player to be named later. I want an AVR that had enough HDMI inputs to fit my needs and a unit that will send all material to the pj in 1080p AND 3D......which direction should I be leaning? Sorry for the noob question

Yes ... press MUSIC and select DD PLII (p. 29).

The only models with video chips to upscale all video to 1080p are either the 2312CI or the 3312CI. All models can pass 3D video.

So when you say ""pass 3D video" I assume what I would need is a 3D capable tv/projector and a 3D blu ray player and I am good?

Are the extras on the 33 worth the price difference between that and the 23? I am not sharp on all these things I apologize.

If you don't want HD Radio (internet radio is more popular) or don't plan to add an external amp for more power (most setups will not require an external amp unless you're using 4Ω speakers or in a large room) or don't want to add Audyssey "wide" speakers (located between the front L/R speakers and the couch) instead of surround back speakers, then no, the 2312CI is the way to go.

and they have the 2312 for $849.98 and the 3312 for $1099.98. I hope they will change their prices to at least retail. I have BB bucks I'd like to use to purchase a new receiver.

If I don't care about networking, should I get the 891 instead of the 1912? Or should I wait for the 1712 to be released?

If the 1712 has the inputs you need, that would be the better choice considering it uses the more advanced version of Audyssey MultEQ XT.

Thanks, twice Video upconversion would be a nice to have on the 1712, but its not necessary.

Will the 2312 have enough power to fill my 23' L x 13' W (8ft ceilings) deficated room? How does it compare to the 988 in that aspect?

The 3312 has other advantages over the 2312, as well.
-More power and less THD at its rated power
-2lbs more in weight, which most likely means a beefier power supply
-Phono input
-Sirius Satellite Radio

I'm not interested in Audyssey or analog outputs. Yet, I would choose the 3312 for the upgraded audio features. If I don't end up choosing a Yamaha RX-A2000, that is my plan for updating my 3311. The 2312 isn't even in consideration.

More than likely yes, although if you've got a 988 it should be comparable. In a dedicated room, I'd probably be more concerned about adding room treatments which would likely have bigger impact.

True, however, the difference in THD is not likely to be detectable, the 2# extra weight is negligible, the phono input can be easily replaced by a phono preamp if needed (which is why I didn't list it), and given the option of "free" internet radio or "pay a monthly fee" Sirius radio, most folks would choose internet radio which is likely why Denon has dropped it from all XX12 models.

For me, the HD Radio tuner makes a difference. Combined with an obviously better amplifier section, I will only consider the 3312 from the new lineup, if I go with Denon this time.

Everybody has different needs and desires. So, it's important for people to be aware of all the differences in the models when making their purchase decisions, despite what we feel may or may not be important.

Exactly right ... which is why we always suggest to choose the model based on one's budget and inputs and features required.

Another important feature of the 3312CI is the ability to output a video source to 2 HDMI TVs simultaneously whereas on the 3311CI, although having 2 Monitor Out jacks, can only output to a single TV at once.

I'm not replacing the 988 as this is for my dedicated room, I use the 988 in our family room. I am not interested in sirius as I dont think I will listen to much radio in there. I do have plans for treatments just wanted to get the best bang for my buck that is 1080p and 3D ready.....just not sure what that is. I narrowed it down to one if those 2 or a 4311ci if I could get a good price.
