The **OFFICIAL** Denon AVR-XX12 Model Owner's Thread - Page 312

JD, thanks for your help the past two days. Now all of my hdmi devices aren't negotiating with the 2312. Think its fair to give the Denon another chance and return the one I purchased.

I found a solution to the "bass too loud" issue. There is a lpf frequency volume setting that looks like I can tweak while keeping audyssey active.

It sounds like an Hdmi issue. Since it has been working properly and it happens on several inputs it is probably your hdmi cable to your tv. If it happens again here are a few remedies to try.

1. Unplug avr cable to tv on both ends and replug it in making sure it is in securely.

2. Swap out hdmi cable to tv.

3. Try a complete hdmi reset that is on page 1, post 3, no. 12i.

4. Do a microprocessor reset.

After I unplugged the receiver from the power and plugged it back in everything was fine. Weird... ;(

This is most certainly the first receiver I've had that needed unplugging. All my previous receivers have been Onkyos. Hopefully this doesn't become a regular occurrence. Thanks!

Leave the BASS boost setting at 0 as the AVR is doing the bass management. After AUTO SETUP, use the remote control button to boost the sub level if desired.

If you are referring to the LPF for LFE setting, that should be left at the factory default setting of 120hz. If resetting the microprocessor doesn't resolve the issue, then exchange it.

So, are you saying increasing BASS boost on the SUB and increasing from AVR will give me same results?
No, I found a setting where you can specify the levels of the SPL effects. I'll look into it further. Thanks will try the Micro reset.
Nevermind, I performed the Microprocessor reset the moment I unboxed the receiver.

The setting that I think would lower the LFE bass levels (ie: the BOOOOM!) is:

Audio Adjust> LFE
Adjust the low-frequency
effects level (LFE).
–10dB – 0dB
For proper playback of the different sources, we recommend setting
to the values below.
• Dolby Digital sources : “0dB”
• DTS movie sources : “0dB”
• DTS music sources : “–10dB”

Well after all the great info here especially from batpig and JDsmoothie and the prompt responses, I am off and sailing with my 1912. As can be attested by my neighbor at my door Friday night asking me to turn it down....
Now the fine tuning will begin as I dig more into the features and connectivity and more advanced features....

I did discover by accident that on the media server page that my wife's iMac was listed via an application called Eye TV. I drilled in and was able to get into her iTunes so I downloaded a trial of EyeConnect (not Eye TV but same company) for myself. The website said that if you do not purchase after the 30 days only the audio will be available. Hmmmm....Which is what I would want anyway....duh?

Anyone here used this who is on a Mac?
Also-
A disclaimer on their site advised that any purchases from iTuns will not be available to stream on EyeConnect due to copyright issues with iTunes. Again any experience with this?

Perhaps one of you fine gentlemen can create an XX13 speculation thread. Apologies if there is one already, I looked but didn't find it.

Hi Phantom Gremlin, something like this thread "When do the 2013 Denon's come out? Any new features we should expect?"

Nope. I'm saying to ONLY make the adjustment on the AVR and NOT on the sub, otherwise Audyssey won't be aware of the changes made when done on the sub itself.

3312ci

Every time I turn it on, it needs to resetup its network connections. They work fine, I have all the access to my LAN, Pandora, etc., but it never "remembers" its connection.

How do I avoid having this 2-3 minute delay between power on and music access?

Thanks,
Ken

So it looks like I have to perform the "run around" with Denon, and return the device to them, rather than the authorized dealer if its defective.

They are asking me to perform a "Reverse HDMI Handshake"

Do you have a wired or wireless connection? Have you tried resetting your router?

Why? Most resellers have a 15-30 day return period for defective items. Who did you purchase from? Contact the reseller for return/exchange.

is there a big difference between raising the channel level for the sub on the avr vs manually raising the volume on the back of the sub? i want to raise it but not sure which one
post #9347 of 18066
^^
Yes, there is ... make adjustments on the AVR so Audyssey can adjust for the changes.

I have a new AVR 2312CI but have an issue I can't seen to figure out. On every HDMI video source (Cable, Roku, PS3, etc) except one I get an on-screen display of volume when I change it via the remote.

The strange one is a Mac Mini running Plex also via HDMI. This input never shows the volume on-screen. Also, when the Mac Mini is the source and I bring up the AVR's menu, I do not see the menu overlaid on top of the video like I do on every other HDMI channel.

Any clues to why?

What resolution is the mini outputting and what is the display reporting as its input resolution? How are the upscaling settings configured...

This particular company allows return of defective merchandise within 30 days. When I inquired about possibly returning and was directed to Denon. I will not state the companies name as its a very popular one amongst these boards. Shipping isn't refundable so we're looking at $60 if I go that route.

The mini is outputting @ 720p. My cable box, for example is outputting 1080i. The HDMI info section on the AVR shows 1080i --> 1080i when the cable is the active source, but shows -- / -- when the mini is the source.

Upscale is set to analog only (an old PS2 is the only analog source).

It's a wired connection into switch which is connected to the cable modem.

The IP address stays the same, as it should, with a hard-wired switch. Would changing the 3312 network menu from DHCP to static resolve this?

The mini apparently is outputting a resolution Denon doesn't like all that much... can't overlay. I would play with the Mac's resolution to see if that helps and for the fun of it have Denon scale the image to 1080p.

I had done a lot of research and decided on the avr1611. However that is no longer available. Is the 1712 a comparable product and what would I be gaining or losing by going with the 1712? Thanks much
post #9355 of 18066
^^
Gain: better version of Audyssey: MultEQ XT; GUI; GUI overlay on 2D video
Lose: Analog ---> HDMI conversion

Review post #2 on page 1 of this thread for a comparison of the various models. Then review posts #3-6 for more helpful info.
Thanks....I had read through those posts as well as several pages deep. Just wanting to know if the 1712 is as reliable as the 1611 appeared to be. I have seen a lot if positive feedback on the 1611 but not a lot of posts in regards to the 1712. So it made me question my decision....

Electronics Expo still has them in stock and is one of the most recommended resellers in this thread, but you must "call" them for their best price.

Using my 3312, I never had a problem scaling my AppleTV2's 720p output to 1080i for my CRT-based HDTV. Volume overlay and such was fine.

in reply to....JD

Electronic expired us the one that told me they are out of stick as of 5 pm ET today.

Any more thoughts in the 1712?
