The **OFFICIAL** Denon AVR-XX12 Model Owner's Thread - Page 328

Hi,
I have the AVR-3312CI connected to my TV via HDMI (only thing connected to my TV).
I just added a Windows 7 based HTPC (Core i3-2100t) to the 3312 via HDMI (using on-board Intel Graphics). Everything works great except I've lost the OSD for just this input...works normally on everything else.
I'm guessing that somehow Win7 is preventing the OSD from getting 'on top' of the display, but I've not found anything in researching this that provides any clues.

Anyone else using an HTPC connected to your Denon? Any suggestions on what might be the issue/resolution?

Thanks,
Chris

There seems to be many phono amps avbl, do you have a favorite value priced model?

I'd love the little Pro-ject with the visible tubes..

ensure that you have "video convert" turned on for that input...

A firmware update may or may not have caused this issue. Since there is no noticeable evidence from this forum I would have to say that it is not wide spread and I would try all of the described fixes that are on pg.1, link 3, 12(i) to see if that fixes your issue.

The reason I specifically mentioned swapping out the Hdmi cable to Tv is that you are having problems with more than 1 device hence if it were a cable issue this would be a good starting point to test that cable.

If none of the described remedies fixes your issue I would call Denon support and let them know as they have revamped their support and may have some remedies for you. If not they should advise you as to where to send it in for service.

Thank you for that suggestion...I'm not at home to test it right now but will try tonight. I really hope it works as it is the last thing I need to fix with this new HTPC before I call att and cancel uverse!

I agree. I just know that the bottom drivers on my Paradigm monitor 9s barely move when crossed at 60 hz with my sub. My point was that he doesn't need to return the speakers as defective. He said that he didn't hear any output. It may be drowned out by the midrange above it when he was listening near the bottom driver.

Anyway, I have zero experience with those particular towers so I'm just making an educated guess.

And I don't want to get into the whole bookshelf vs tower thing on a Denon owners thread.

He maybe needs to post over in the owners thread for those Pioneer speakers. They would be more helpful.

After d/l iOS 5.1 on my iPad and iPhone 4s AirPlay is gone. Prior to this it was flawless with my 2112 which has the latest firmware. . I've powered off, reset wifi etc. on both. Any suggestions? I did try the following as noted in this thread:

a. Airplay Icon not showing up If the Airplay icon is no longer displayed after doing a firmware update (or any other time), set the AVR to Standby and unplug it for 10 minutes. Then plug back in and turn on again. If using an iPhone or HTPC, try cycling it OFF/ON while it's connected to the network. Also try closing and opening iTunes. Also try power cycling the router, wireless bridge, or Powerline adapters (if used). If your router has a "multicast" option, try setting it to YES. Yet another option is to assign the AVR with a static IP address of its own, just turn off DHCP and select an IP address out of the normal range (1-100, eg. 192.168.1.101 ) and then leave the subnet address that’s there. Give it a few minutes after you type it in and you should see the icon pop up on your dev

Thank you, thank you, thank you....

That did the trick...I spent a bunch of time yesterday trying to track down what was going wrong with this, and all it took was that one setting change.

Can you tell me what exactly the video convert function is doing now that I've enabled it (beside letting the OSD work correctly)?

Thanks again,

Chris

Just ordered the 2112ci from electronics expo, and I have a question regarding how it will handle 7.1.

If I'm watching a movie or playing a game in 5.1 will I get any sound from those extra speakers? What about if I use front heights instead of rear surrounds?

Thanks in advance for any and all replies! I'm definitely excited to see how Audyssey improves the quality of my HT...as my room is very acoustically challenged.

It converts analog video to digital = Hdmi for 1 cable to Tv.

you are welcome...

for an hdmi input, it allows the avr to process the signal in order to overlay the osd...

it also allows you to use the video processor, should you choose to do so...

Well- I pulled the power plug again- and this time it worked! My airplay icon is back! I am also thinking the problem may have been created by the recent firmware update I did, and not the iOS update. Either way the info available here is terrific and very much appreciated.

Yes .... using DD PLIIx, a 5.1 will be simulated to 7.1 to make use of the rear surround speakers, while DD PLIIz will simulate audio to the front height speakers.

With any luck my new Denon will be here tomorrow. Spent several hours today running cables and putting on banana plugs. Hopefully I can get up and running pretty quick. I did forget to grab a tripod from my dads house so it might be a day or two before I run Audessey. Hopefully I've watched my last movie with just the tv speakers for sound.

Can AirPlay be implemented using an iPad?

Quick answers need ordering in 2 hours

may sound a silly one but does it 'interfere' with the video in any way?
reason i ask is a am returning an Onkyo 609 after noticing it introduces a stutter with 24p material. googled it and some purists say they too have it.

does it remember input settings?
ie 'direct' for cd and 'DD' for dvd's

dont want airplay but like to stream flac over dnla server. currently can select songs on ipod app abd get them to play direct through amp. does this work?

will it send component from wii(480) ans xbox(1080) out through HDMI at 1080p?

any other problems i need to consider?

i previously owned an old 2802 before the Onkyo and when changed i noticed a marked improvement in movies BUT a worsening in 2ch stereo
anybody compared the onkyo as i dont want to go back to poorer movie performance

looking at a purchase price of around £430 so anything else worth considering? like yamaha or marantz?

thanks

To which model are you referring as there are 7 models discussed in this thread?

Ok, I just saw an insane deal on the 1312 ...convince me that the 1612 or 1712 is worth it!

I know about the Ausyssey stuff but I've never used any auto-correction software (my current receiver is almost 10yo), and I keep hearing that it's finicky. My theater room is set up pretty well acoustically, and I'm happy with my current sound (Sony 1000ES, fwiw) so is it really that big of a deal?

What about the DACs? How crappy are the ones in 1312? I'm not a believer in the 192kHz "golden ear" stuff, so I'm more worried about basic DAC performance. Are the cheap DACs deficient in analog output quality, or is it just about features/frequencies?
I saw the same deal -- $164.99 shipped for the 1312 from Woot.

How reliable has the 1312 been? I've got a basic 5 channel setup in my family room and I'm currently using a 10 year old Sony basic receiver, I'm getting the 1312 just for the HDMI. I'll be feeding a TiVo and computer signal through it.

Also, is there a good place to find what the on-screen display looks like? I've only found a picture of the setup screen.
yes, room correction really is "that big of a deal"...

worrying about the dacs is pointless...

Could you clarify on the DAC comment: pointless because it doesn't make a difference, or because you think the room correction is the overwhelming issue?

As for the Audyssey stuff, I should mention that I'm fairly confident in my ability to properly set up the speakers manually, so it really comes down to the room correction (and anything else that can't be done manually?).

^^^

both...

speaker setup (i.e. delays and levels) are merely the tip of the iceburg... that's easy... eq'ing, otoh....

Just a hint on how I use my iPad with my Denon. You can play music directly to your receiver from you iPad, but if you're like me, you have a lot more music on your computer than your iPad. Also, playing music from your iPad will drain the battery a little faster than normal. I keep my iTunes open on my computer and downloaded the iTunes remote app for my iPad. So my iTunes on my laptop utilizes Airplay to play music to the receiver and then I use the iPad basically as a remote to the computer to control volume and what's playing. It's great bc I have my entire music library at my finger tips, but not draining iPad battery to play music.

First a caveat ... as this thread is primarily posted to by USA/CA members, you may be better served posting in the European version ... AVForums.com. The information below is what is known about the USA/CA model 2312CI.

1. There is a known video degradation issue on some units when "Video Convert" is set to ON as noted in post #4 in this thread.
2. It remember surround mode based on signal input.
3. Yes.
4. Yes.

Audyssey is only finicky if you don't follow the instructions on how to make best use of it's capability (see the Audyssey Setup Guide linked in my sig). Although 1312 owners have posted their being pleased with their purchase, most Audyssey featured AVR owners would agree (especially that went from a no AUTO EQ AVR to Audyssey)you would be much better served with adding the Audyssey feature of either the 1612 or 1712, capable of EQing the speakers and sub.

Woot is not an authorized reseller so you would be giving up the 2 year mfr warranty. And if you're only upgrading for the HDMI audio, as long as you're currently able to connect the video directly to the TV with optical/coax digital audio to the "basic 5 channel setup" then stick with that and put the savings toward upgrading your speakers. When upgrading the AVR, you'll want to consider one with an Auto EQ program. Plus as long as you've waited this long, I would suggest waiting a few more months for the new XX13 models to be released as they are all supposed to be capable of being firmware updated via a USB jack, whereas only the networking models (1912 and higher) can currently be firmware updated by the owner.

Pictures of the GUI for any model can be seen by downloading the model's Owner's manual from Denon's website.

...ok, I guess you've convinced me. BTW, since you're so keen on the room EQ stuff, I assume you'd recommend the 1712 over the 1612 as well (XT vs. regular)?
