Although you could physically get a 9.1 setup (with the Front A and B speakers connected in parallel and reduced to 4-ohm loads if originally 8-ohm speakers as they share the same amp), and then selecting either the Surr Back/Amp Assign speakers to output the Front Wide "OR" Front Height signal, it wouldn't be a true 9.1 setup with both Front Height "AND" Front Wide signals. For this you would need to upgrade to either the Marantz 8801 or Denon 4311CI/4520CI.

Some interesting problems with my SR6006.

I have been getting a green screen on Net/USB. A processor reset clears the problem. After the reset I restore my Settings from the internal memory.

This morning I did the reset and restore and then got a firmware update notification. I had never gotten the notification for the update with the Pandora fix. I went ahead and did the update.

It sure would be nice if Marantz took the time to post the changes made in an update as well as displaying the current version. I know that there is an arcane way to find the version, but it should be available in the menus. This would save everyone a lot of time when troubleshooting.

There appears to be more in this update than the Pandora fix.

HDMI Passthru now works with either setting of Network Standby On or Off.

HDMI Control no longer functions in the same way.

Previously, with Network Standby On , HDMI Control On, Power Off Control All, when I turned on my Panasonic 2012 E50 the SR6006 turned on. Turn off the E50 SR6006 turned off. Volume up, down and Mute on the Panasonic Remote controlled the SR6006. This latest firmware broke HDMI Control.

Any way to revert Firmware?

Sorry, but no; however, you may want to try just cycling the HDMI Control setting OFF/ON and then power off all devices, the power back on again ... TV, AVR, source device.

Thanks, already tried that as well as going back and doing a fresh set up.

I guess the next step is contacting Marantz Support.

The next step would be a soft reset (unplug the power for about 10 minutes) and if still no joy, then reset the microprocessor (p. 150 OM).

Really excited. Best buy is selling the sr5006 for 399 on clearance. Picking it up this week. Anyone have recommendations for some banana plugs?

Thanks Ratamacue, i had the same problems using airplay w/ my iphone 5 after the firmware update. and i just read your post and tried the solution and it worked in restoring the airplay. (i didn't reset my iphone 5 or unplug my router) i just set upgrade notification and update notification to off and unplugged the receiver, went to the bathroom and came back and replugged it in and rechecked upgrade and update notifications back to on and immediately i can use airplay again through my iphone 5.

I actually discovered that the maximum volume dB limit has been increased to 18dB after the firmware update, (there's a chance could've happened from the firmware prior to this as i remember there was another update that might've been pretty recent too?)

I use a MM(Moving Magnet) phonostage preamp hooked to the CD section of my 5006 with a MC(Moving Coil) cart on a turntable. the MC cart is severely underpowered and needs alot of gain just to hear my records. (since i've been to busy to invest in a step up transformer or a phono stage that supports MC carts.) because of this, i have to set the master volume close to the limit, which i believe was 9dB prior to the firmware update (or 12dB i forget) to get a decent volume. i was surprised to discover after the update, i can raise the maximum volume past 9dB to 18dB!

(in addition, i also need to use the source level for analog input to be increased 12 dB within the audio settings, for additional gains)

(i must've toyed with it and after the firmware update and unknowingly reset the source volume to it's default values, giving the imaginary notion that the max volume increased.)

The max volume has always been +18db (as noted below in the Owner's manual). The max volume limit for a particular source is reduced if the Source Level setting is used to increase the level of that source.

please help a newbie. I use to pretty up on this AV stuff but its been a while. Im currently using a Marantz SR880 MK11 and a Adcom GFA550 Ms to power the multi room audio throughout my house via a Adcom speaker selector. My monitor is a 50' Pioneer Elite Plasma. Surprisingly 12+ years later everything still works great. Now looking to upgrade to to the lack of the ability to add modern needs(ie apple tv,sirius etc). so I'm thinking my first choice for AV receiver is the Marantz SR5007. When looking at the back of the unit i dont see a place to add my amp for multi room? I see on the specs that it has a multi room feature,what am i missing?. Also im assuming since i will be using HDMI hook up should be easier? Will i still need Coax/digital for audio ? Thanks in advance. Larry

Why don't the new Marantz receivers like SR6006 etc. support THX? My old one, SR7200 used to support it.

So the licensing fees don't have to be paid.

HDMI isn't necessarily going to be "easier" as HDMI handshake issues with cable/sat boxes are quite common which are resolved by connecting the HDMI directly to the TV with optical from the box to the AVR for surround audio.

I'm in Los Angeles. I know, incredible. Go to best buy' site and look store by store for clearance stuff. It takes patience but so worth it. Picked up today and brand new. Will set up this weekend.

You gotta google best buy clearance and get to the page where you can locate a store and specify clearance or open box. Go for clearance. Stuff is 50% off!! Denon, pioneer etc. keep looking

I should think you can just use hdmi for both audio and video. But I haven't even hooked mine up yet, but that is what I have one with my Yamaha receiver and it worked great.

Again depends on whether you are using a cable/sat box or OTA.

After Audyssey's setup, is it possible to manually adjust main speakers eq without losing
other settings?

Yes. After Audessey setup, you'd want to reset your FR and FL speakers to small.

Not the EQ no, however, you can adjust LARGE/SMALL, speaker level, and increase crossover settings as these settings are not made by Audyssey so changing them has no impact. For more information on Audyssey, click on the Audyssey FAQ/101 Guide linked in my sig.

Reason why I would want to touch EQ is that even after Audyssey setup, I have problems
with several frequency zones on bass-side. That's why I have keep "bass" from Tone settings 2-3 notch downwards.
(especially for music, otherwise there's too much "boom"in lower frequencys)

Is it so that if I put Audyssey "off" to be able to use EQ, it reset all changes what Audyssey has made?
Of course if I could check those settings from somewhere, then I could add them manually and still
be able to use EQ(?)

I have a question regarding the Surround mode options. Wen I play a Blu ray with DD or Dolby Pro-logic on it, should I set the 6006 to Auto and set the blu ray to play 5.1 DD or set it to some Dolby mode? And if the Dvd doesnt have DTS audio on it, will it make any difference to set the Marantz to DTS? Lastly, from the manual, I should get a lot more modes like DOLBY PRO LOGIC IIz, DOLBY PRO LOGIC IIx, DOLBY PRO LOGIC II, DOLBY PRO LOGIC II A-DSX, DOLBY PRO LOGIC A-DSX, DTS NEO:6, DTS NEO:6 A-DSX, DOLBY DIGITAL, DOLBY DIGITAL Plus, DOLBY TrueHD, DTS SURROUND, DTS 96/24, DTS-HD, DTS Express but all I get are Dolby Pro logic Movie, Dolby Pro logic Music, DTS:Neo Movie, DTS:Neo Music. What gives?

To lower the bass boost when using Dyn EQ and listening to music or TV, you can set the Reference Level Offset to 10 or 15. By disabling Audyssey you will have access to a very rudimentary representation of a graphic EQ, however, as soon as you enable it again, then whatever you the Audyssey EQ will return (ie. not lost when going to Manual EQ).

The only way to get those additional surround modes is if you have a 7.1 setup. A BD will have either a DD or DTS audio track so if you have the BDP set to "bitstream" with "Secondary audio" set to OFF, then it will pass that audio to the AVR as either DD or DTS.

Is there any way I can listen to the media streamer or internet radio and watch the video from my Directv receiver through the HDMI 1 port at the same time?
