Thanks for your reply.
Just tried it twice, same story. Should I try to disconnect it tonight and retry tomorrow?

Sure. However, if still no joy, then do the microprocessor reset procedure listed in the Owner's manual (p. 140 ) after first using the Web Control feature (p. 76) to SAVE the config file to a PC so you can then LOAD it to restore your settings (including Audyssey).

Hi all....new guy here. Well not really new, I've been lurking here for probably more than a year. This is just my first post. Over that year I've gotten lots and lots of great information to help me towards upgrading my 25 year old audio equipment and bring me into the 21st century. Here's my set up:

Marantz SR6006
Def Tech ProMonitor 800 (4)
Def Tech ProCenter 1000
Def Tech ProSub 1000
Assassin HTPC Elite , Win7 64 with Hauppauge WinTV HV-2250 Tuner/PVR
Sony Bravia KDL-46Z4100 LCD TV
Sony BDP-S570 Blue Ray player
JVC HR-J692U Video Cassette Player (Yes I still use it)
Logitec Harmony 900 remote

I have been putting this system together for the past couple months. I think I finally got it to where I want it (including 3 - 4 days figuring out how to program the Harmony). Every thing sounds great and I really love the Harmony remote. Definitely made living with my wife much easier.

Now after that long winded intro, on to my question. Due to size limitations in my living room I have put all the equipment into one AV cabinet. I chose this cabinet, BDI Novia 8426 (sorry can't post links yet), for the ability to hide the subwoofer in the cabinet. I stuck the Marantz on the upper shelf behind the drop down door that has a speaker cloth insert (my center channel is mounted on the wall above the TV). I know Marantz recommends you not do this because of heat build up but I really like the clean look of the installation by having everything in the cabinet. I want to put a Cooler Guys Cabcool 802U Dual 80mm fan set up in the back of the cabinet to draw out the heat. This unit is USB powered and I was wondering if anybody can tell me if the USB port on the front of the receiver will power the fans? At this point I really don't plan on using the USB for anything so I thought I would use it for this. I know I could power it from the HTPC but the PC is usually on 24/7 and I just want the fans to run when the receiver is on.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.
Thanks!

I will be in a similar situation - I'm going to try out some stuff from frozencpu.com - Scythe Gentle Typhoon AP15 and Dual Channel Thermal Fan Controller, and separate 12V power supply that they sell to go with it. Idea is that you actually want the fan to run independently of whether the receiver is on or off - the instant you turn it off it might still be hot so it's better if the fan is triggered by a heat sensor so it can cool it down.

I've waded through a ton of these posts and run a search, but can anyone tell me if the amps inside the SR6006 can be activated individually by channel? I want to run my L, C, R out of the pre outs to a separate amp, while using the SR6006 to power the rear 2 speakers. Better rephrasing yet - "if I connect anything to the pre-outs, does the SR6006 turn off all channels of internal amplification or just those channels connected"? The manual seems vague about this as well.

Thanks aiyagari for the frozencpu.com info. Never been there before. The idea of having the fan controlled and staying on after the receiver is off makes good sense. I hadn't thought of that. Frozencpu has a nice kit that looks like it make work perfectly in my cabinet, CabCool 1202-M PRO. Adds more wires to the inside of the cabinet but I think it will do the job.

you will be fine...

it never "turns off" any of the amplification channels, no matter what you do...

In case of playing a FLAC file it is problematic if there is no break between the tracks. (Especially with opera and classical music CDs). When this problem occurs the datastream is always interrupted for a short period of time at track change when playing via USB or streaming via the network.
Although this is not the correct solution, when the whole CD is merged into one flac file (though the problem mentioned above does not occur) I don't have any means to play a track from a specific point. Does anyone have any experience regarding this issue or know a solution to this problem?

Hi David

Did you figure the switching to TV when turning on 5006. Drove me mad, I just deleted TV in the amp menu. You can enable it later if you ever need it. Works perfect now, turn the amp on and it stays on Sat.

i set up the marantz hdmi control to power on when turning on the tv.

however, the pioneer pro 151 fd HDMI handshake, automatically defaults the input selection of any HDMI receiver to the "TV" input. This happened with my onkyo 607 also. So as a work around, i just plugged my cable box hdmi to the tv input.

the Marantz manual reads that i can't assign an HDMI port to the TV input when the HDMI control function is set to "on".

So, what happens is everytime i turn on my tv the marantz turns on but is automatically switched to "TV" input which i can't use as an hdmi port when hdmi control is set to on. so i have to reselect another input everytime i power on my tv/receiver w/ hdmi control on.

is there any workaround to this?

Hi all,

I am willing to capture analog audio into my computer;

I have hooked the VCR (Analog Audio Out) to my audio input card, put a DVD to play in my DVD player (so the SR6006 was set to DVD input, sound was coming OK from the speakers), but there's no audio in my computer.

Please, do I have to "tell" the SR6006 to output the audio through the VCR output ? Isn't any playing audio readily available at this output, regardless any adjustment ?

I have set both Zones 2 and 3 to DVD "just in case", but it didn't help (as expected);

Any guess please ?

Thanks a lot,

Mongao

An otherwise excellent pair of receivers effectively neutered by that dinky porthole that makes it nearly impossible to see what you have selected.

Why did they do this? They are beautiful to be sure, but functional and sensible? No way.

That was what I thought as well until I purchased and setup the SR5006. I am able to do so much more with the OSD as well as my iPad and Laptop via the Network connection that the port hole display 15 feet away is not an issue for me.

So I had to replace my SR5006, ethernet port in the first one was dead. Sent it back and the new one has been working great.

I had checked for new firmware about a week ago and when I initially put the new unit in, but nothing found. This morning I got a notice that there now was something new and I just installed it.

So far I don't see any huge differences. Anyone know if there is a release note page somewhere?

Yesterday I received a firmware update for my SR5006.
However, on http://firmware.marantz.eu I still see the changelog with date 18.01.2012 (Main: 001150034)

Is there a way to view the version number of the FW that is installed?
(Cannot find it in any menu, nor in the manual)

Yes, that has been shown to work as well, with work arounds available if you still need any of the HDMI Control features lost by disabling it.

First time poster, long time lurker. I'm the proud owner of an SR6006 but I'm having a small issue, and found this thread through a search, so thought I'd ask here instead of starting a new one.

I've quoted the above because I think my issue may be about what you guys are discussing, but not entirely sure. 'neway, here goes:

I just finished moving and after setting everything up again, I'm noticing that the physical display on the receiver will turn off after a few seconds of inactivity. If I press any button on the remote, it'll reappear only to disappear a few seconds later. Really annoying, and frankly I'm not sure if it's a setting I need to turn on/off or if there's something wrong with it.

Please advise, thanks

Welcome to AVS Forum.

Your issue is actually different then the discussions you posted, much simpler to resolve though. The front panel display is disappearing because you're using the PURE DIRECT mode which cuts out the video circuitry. There's generally never any reason you'll want to use either DIRECT or PURE DIRECT when you have AUDYSSEY available, as both modes disable Audyssey. Press the "AMP" button followed by the "AUTO" button and that will get you out of PURE DIRECT mode.

I just did an update to my sr 5006 what did the update fix?

Thanks man.

I'm not totally sure what PURE DIRECT means, but even when I have it set on Auto, the display would turn off. But anyway, I have an update, because messing about in the Options panel, it turns out it's just a simple setting. So I just set it to "Never turn off" and now it's working.

@Audyssey: Apart from calibrating the setup initially, what exactly does it do? I mean, I've disconnected the mic that came with it (please excuse my dumb questions)
Audyssey calibration and Audyssey EQ are separate. Run the calibration every time you make a change in the room. Enable EQ in the menu so it's always working while you're listening to anything.

Does anyone else have the problem with airplay stopping for a few seconds during a song and then playing again from where it left off ? It happens with multiple devices on my network, I'm using a cisco e4200 router.
What are your Airplay sources? I have this problem from time to time when playing from my iPhone and iPad to any Airplay receiver (Apple TV, Airport Express, and my Marantz SR-5006). I think it's a problem with my WiFi router or the iOS devices. Oddly enough, I never have any problems when playing from iTunes on my laptop.
Yeah it happens with two of the ipod touches in my apartment, and occasionally with my girlfriends laptop, but typically I don't have any problem with my laptop.

Although that's supposed to be a pretty good router, my guess would be on that for causing the issue. Earlier on I had an issue what connectivity as well as the SR6006 would disconnect from the network constantly, so pretty much with each song, i'd have to reconnect the ethernet cable.

Switched out the router and now there's never a problem.

EDIT: My old router was a Sagem (forgot the model name, but it's a cheap router your ISP will just give you here) and the new one is a Netgear CG3000)

The "Display" setting defaults to "Always ON" out of the box so not sure how it got changed to "Auto ON". Also the "AUTO" I was referring to has to do with the surround mode not the display.

In addition to the Audyssey MultEQ XT setting, you'll also want to enable Audyssey Dyn EQ (all sources) and Audyssey Dyn Vol (TV and taming loud movie watching at night if others are sleeping). Click on the Audyssey 101 link in my sig to get a better understanding of what Audyssey is doing.

Also, it would be helpful for others if you edited your post above mine to include the model of the router you are now using.

Pure Direct is a listening mode designed just for 2-channel stereo. It shuts down everything BUT your front left and right speakers, changes them to full-range (large), and gives you more direct power to those fronts.

It's probably the best mode in which to demo speakers when you're shopping.

That's probably a real good idea. I'll get reading on that

Done--sorry about that.

I'd also like to know how I activate the optical port1 - which is where I have my PC plugged in for audio only (also have HDMI from PC to receiver, but that's for both video and audio). I've looked through sources, but can't find anything that works.
^^
There are (2) optical inputs ... you can either use the default source name assigned to each: OPTI(CD)/OPT2(TV) or you can reassign them to another source name if desired. See p. 89 in your Owner's manual under Input Assign - Digital.
