Marantz SR5006 / Marantz SR6006 Receiver Thread - Page 34

I'm new to the forum but have a question for best way to set this up in an apartment that I am completing:
My SR6006 will be located in a media cabinet in the media room which will have a Samsung 60" plasma & 5.1 surround. the room next door is the kitchen which will have a Samsung LCD 40". The media cab also has a NuVo GC which will power 4 ceiling speakers in the kitchen area (as well as other speakers in the rest of the apt). Media cab will also have an Oppo blu-ray, directv dvr (probably the new media center dvr), and AppleTV. I also will use a URC MSC-400 and MX-980 for control. What's the best way to set this up?
1) I want to be able to watch the same source on both TVs at some times & separate sources at other times & since the SR6006 doesn't allow dual independent HDMI output, do I need to run additional HDMI cables to the kitchen TV (I have a smurf tube so I can run whatever)? The OPPO has 2xHDMI but the appleTV & directv have only one HDMI out (I could use the component out on the directv but can't easily use the nuvo or SR6006 for kitchen audio in that case)
2) Is it wise or not to use the nuvo to power the ceiling kitchen speakers for TV audio (i.e. source to SR6006 to nuvo to 4 kitchen speakers) or will this result in echo problems etc?
Thanks

1. You might want to consider a 4x2 HDMI switch.
2. Sure, no problem.

Hi, guys!
I'm new here and I've bought SR5006 a few weeks ago.
Having a rather simple question and hope someone could help me.

Is it possible to stream video from Media Server through Marantz?

So, I have a Synology DS212j NAS and it is connected to Marantz via a router (Zyxel Keenetic).
I've enabled DLNA on NAS, it appears in the "Media Server" menu of Marantz and music streaming works flawlessly.

However, I can't make the videos play - when I go look at the folders inside the media server from Marantz they are called "Music", "Photos" and "Video (not play)". So it seems that Marantz auto adds the "not play" part to the folder name.
I also can see video files inside this folder of media server, but when I clicked to play .mp4 video, only music was playing, like the film was just an audio track.

So, I'm confused, do I need to check my setup settings or it is not possible to watch videos through DLNA at all? If so, what's the best option for me?

Thanks in advance.

Ran into a problem today where the receiver seemed to stop playing any sound, (and wouldn't let me adjust the sound up or down) claimed that the airplay feature was in use whenever anything tried to use it, and would only sometimes (usually after turning it off and back on again) display video from more than one source.

Seemed odd but I figured it was nothing a microprocessor reset probably couldn't fix so I went ahead and did that, secure in the knowledge (so I thought) that I could reload the settings I'd saved to my computer. Only now I can't seem to get them to load. The first time I tried it the receiver sat in "loading" for about 30 minutes before I finally gave up and turned it off to try again. Now every time I try it'll say "loading" for a minute or two, restart (showing the the un-renamed source it's sitting on) and the webpage will tell me (about a minute or so later): "Load Not Completed Please retry again . " I've now tried again about 5 or 6 times with the same result every time.

Any advice? It took me a few tries to get the settings to download when I did it but not this many!

(And for the record I'm using a iMac running OS X 10.7, connecting to the receiver through Firefox (Safari doesn't seem to work), and both the receiver and the iMac are connected through ethernet connections to the same router).

I"d rather not have to go in and do all of my customization again but if I have to I guess I will...

Sorry, but no video over DLNA. You'll need to use a 3rd party external video device (eg. Apple TV).

Denon AVR fiile SAVEs sometimes are all zeroes even though the file shows as being about 400k either way. Check the file to confirm it's not all zeroes using either Notepad or a hex viewer. If it is all zeroes, you'll need to redo Audyssey and your configuration setup again, otherwise, unplug the unit for a few minutes, power up again with another reset, and retry the LOAD again.
Damn. Turns out it is all 0's. Guess I'll get started now. At least now I guess I know to check it after saving it to be sure it's worked. Not something I expected to have to do before.

Thanks for the info though. At least I can stop trying to get it to load.

Yes, unfortunate but it happens. Going forward, always check the file for data before considering it successful.

Just curious, Multi-EQ XT eq's the subwoofer correct ? And if so is there a way to view the graph of the subwoofer frequencies like there is for the rest of the speakers ?
^^
All versions of Audyssey used in Denon/Marantz AVRs EQ the sub (MultEQ and XT having the same number of sub filters in each version); however, unlike the very crude speaker EQ graphs provided, a similar sub EQ graph is not provided.

Oh, thanks for the info!
Could purchasing Boxee Box solve my problem?
I'm thinking about sharing audio & video from NAS to Boxee, and then passing it to Marantz. If I understand correctly, it will also help me to replace Marantz interface with a neat Boxee's one?
In this case, through what HDMI input should I connect Boxee to Marantz? DVD, BD, AUX,VCR? Or it doesn't matter and I can use any of the free ones?
^^
Yes, a Boxee Box will work as well ... just needs to be any 3rd party video device that is physically connected to the AVR. Although the HDMI jacks sometimes react differently based on the device connected (which is why if it doesn't work on one jack then try another), you can ignore the actual label as the HDMI jacks are "assignable" to any HDMI source name if you don't want to use the default label name.

Thanks, man! That was really helpful!

Hi Guys,
I am new to this forums I am planning to buy an SR6006 and use it with these speakers:

Boston Acoustics A360 towers 2
Boston AcousticsA 225C centre channel 1
Boston Acoustics ASW 250 subwoofer 1
satellites will come later

I didn't have a chance to listen to these speakers but I have heard great things about them, how would you rate this configuration and do you have any advice?

Thanks in advance
Ace,

If at all possible, you should make arrangements to listen to a selection of speakers in your price range at a local AV store. You'll be surprised at how different they sound from one another. Take a selection of music that you're very familiar with so you'll know what it should sound like.

The sr6006 is $400 off through a reputable on line retailer, normally $1199, now $799. I wanted the sr7005, but the price of the sr6006 is more than half of what the sr7005 is.

Is this a great price for a great receiver, or am I missing something?

Hi Seldel Ball,
thanks for the tip, however I cannot find any dealer with these speakers in my area (Amsterdam NL). I have listened to some Focal Chorus V 716V and among 10 different speakers they looked the best to my ears. Prob is that they are old and not as highly rated as BA a360.

Argh! So I go through most of the set up last night, changing the input names etc. and was able to save the config file without any problem. Checked with my trusty hex editor and found it did in fact have numbers/letters in it, it wasn't all 0's (though mostly 0's!). Today I ran audessey (didn't have the chance last night to quiet the room etc. so it could run properly). Now I"m trying to save a config file with those settings and I jus keep getting a file that's all 0's.

The other weird thing is that when I run the save the receiver never changes it's front display to "saving." I get a file and then eventually the receiver restarts but the file is all 0's and "saving" never shows up on the front display. Last night the front display did in fact show "saving." So I'm wondering if the two phenomena are connected.

Same situation on every browser I try (running Mac OSX 10.7, same results in Firefox, Chrome, and Opera. Safari won't even let me get to the point where I can save).

Any tips? Do I need to change some setting? (I've got network standby set to on) Leave the receiver unplugged for a while? Do I need to boot into windows and use Internet Explorer or something like that? It's so odd that it worked fine last night but now after running audessey it's not.
Ok! Well I guess I should have tried all the ideas I had before posting. Turning it off and unplugging it for about 5 minutes seemed to do the trick. This time the front panel showed "saving" and the video output stopped going to the TV, and most importantly the file I saved actually has data in it!

Sorry for all the posts here, but hopefully it'll help someone else who might have this problem!

Another suggestion for issues with an all zero SAVE is to set Network Standby to OFF, cycle the AVR OFF/ON and then try the SAVE again.
Oh good to know! If it happens again I'll be sure to try that first! Thank you very much!

Have spent this long weekend upgrading from my ancient Denon 3300 to the Marantz SR6006. Haven't finished setting everything up yet (just case and wires done at this point), but I wanted to report that the 12 V output will drive a Scythe Gentle Typhoon AP15 fan properly. The AP15 fan is a nice one - while there are fans rated lower than its 29 dB the particular sound it makes is soft and breezy so one does not really notice it. I used a Klein Tools adjustable hole saw (in Home Depot electrical section, not the tools section) to cut a 4 1/2" hole in the back of my cabinet and screwed my fan to the back of the cabinet so just the fan blades show through to the inside, and they can suck out air to the outside. I used a standard 3.5mm stereo mini jack and soldered the fan adaptor wires to the pads corresponding to the inner (ground) and tip (12V) leaving the middle stripe unconnected. This is what I plugged into the DC out on the receiver. Now when I turn on the receiver the fan turns on. While I had planned to use a temperature controller, my testing of the temp controller unit I received (with a hair dryer) showed it is not working properly so I need to exchange that.

Hi, I am new to this forum. Just bought a marantz sr 6006 and I have the following problem. for the first time looking for an internet radio station everything went well but now if I want to look for new channels and the monitor does not show the menu. Any ideas are welcome. Thanks

Has anyone run into this? Just got my SR6006 a week ago and got it all wired and installed. I have pretty much everything going in HDMI and a single HDMI going out to a Sharp 65 inch LCD. The issue I'm having is a lot of the time when I switch channels with DirecTV (HR22) from, lets say Fox Sports to HBO, the screen goes blank (but I still have audio) and the small box on the Sharp shows 720p even though I set everything up at 1080i/p. If I switch inputs on the Marantz to something else and then back to SAT, I then get a picture. And the handshake seems to be soooo slow. Very frustrating

Thanks to jdsmoothie and others who have provided so much information in this thread. I'm new to this forum, but I've been lurking for some time as I'm considering purchasing an SR6006, and the information provided here is very helpful. I have a couple of questions I'd like to resolve before I purchase.

First, I'm going to set this up with a 5.1 speaker system (well, initially probably a 3.1 setup) for watching video on my TV in the primary zone. But the multi-zone capability is important to me, as I'd like the SR6006 to also drive a 2-channel stero system in a second zone throughout several rooms of my house via a 6-way dedicated speaker switch with independent volume controls for each room. I'd like to have the ability to play music on that second zone from my iPhone/iPod via AirPlay, or from my BlueRay player. But the specs I see for the SR6006 say that the second zone is "analog only" and can only use analog sources. What exactly does that mean? Can I not use my iPhone to play music in that second zone via AirPlay? What if I connect the iPhone via a USB connection? And can I not use my BlueRay player to play CDs if it's connected to the SR6006 via HDMI? If I'm correct about these limitations, are there workarounds, or are there other systems that would provide both analog and digitally-sourced inputs to the second zone?

Second, is there any problem in setting up the first zone in a 3.1 configuration (left and right front channels, center channel, and subwoofer)? Will the Audyssey setup process work with that configuration?

Thanks again for all your assistance--it's very much appreciated!
^^
"Analog" only for Zone 2 refers to external devices connected to the AVR also having an analog cable in addition to the HDMI cable for Zone 1. Internet radio, Airplay and USB devices, however should pass to Zone 2 with the exception that Airplay cannot be independent to Zone 2 and must also be selected in Zone 1 (does not apply to other Zone 2 sources which can be independent to Zone 2 with another source playing in Zone 1). Also, there's no issue with running Audyssey on a 3.1 setup (or 2.0 setup for that matter).

Confirm your DVR hasn't been reset to NATIVE and that only the 1080i/p boxes are checked. You may end up having to connect component video with optical to the AVR if the issue continues, or HDMI to the TV with optical to the AVR.

Try unplugging the AVR for a few minutes and then plug back in and power back ON. This is a "soft reset" which although not resetting any settings, can sometimes resolve minor issues.
Thanks jdsmoothie. I'll try it and see if that does it. Just curious, do you think that this issue is stemming from the DVR or receiver end? Very much appreciate the help!!
^^
Well the DVR wouldn't have anything to do with it if you're accessing the internet radio stations via your WiFi router.
