I noticed a few posts by different people of similar problems since the latest FW update, my main goal was to report the issue so they could pass it along to their software engineering team not have them replace parts on the TV.

That is correct, use the up arrow on the remote and the power button on the side of the TV. This will reset the TV to it's factory settings and clear out any of your user settings. So it would be best to record those values for later use.

After you have completed the initial setup you will need to do a "Refresh Internet Content" to refresh the service list in the TV. The service list includes Amazon, Netflix, etc and the Applications.

Please also note that these TV's do take time to boot up after turning on, just like a PC.

When I get my 32ex720, my setup would be Digital cable receiver connected to TV through Composite (yellow connector).

While watching a normal channel (say HBO), is it possible to watch it as 3D? If so how is the clarity?

Thanks in advance.

I just connected an ethernet cable to my set for the first time. Does the set automatically update its firmware when it's connected or do I have to update that manually?
I'm actually looking to avoid any firmware updates as I'm perfectly fine with my set and don't want to risk potential issues due to firmware updates such as the recent random reboot.
I believe there's a setting for automatic upgrade. Not at my TV so I can't doublecheck.

However, I upgraded to the latest firmware but haven't notice any random reboot.

Random reboots for me. PS3 or cable box
Does a hard reset get rid of this problem? Would call Sony but don't want to deal with telephone support.

You can try the factory reset but you may want to call sony support beforehand and make sure to write down any settings you want to keep.

The Home Theater Control application only seems to work if I'm connected to my network (Ethernet). If I unplug it, it disappears. Is there anyway to have it permanently there without network access? Seems kind of stupid that it's only available when connected to a network. My receiver and tv set are connected thru HDMI so how does that have to do with the network?

*edit* just read in my Sony receiver's manual that "To use "Home Theater Control" function, your tv must be able to access a broadband service."
Why this is not built into the TV astounds me.

have the Sony 40 inch LED TV. It is connected using a Binary B210 video switch via HDMI. From there, a CAT5 ethernet cable is going to a balun and then HDMI from balun to TV.

I have both a Sony DVD player and Apple TV2 and now Apple TV3 that work without any issue on a 720p or 1080i signal to the EX720. However, only with Satellite TV and now FibeTV or ipTV does it cause an issue with a 720p or 1080i signal. It flashes/blinks as I'm watching the TV. It does this sometimes constantly and sometimes every few seconds. Again, only with the signal from the television. I know it's not the cable box as I had satellite TV there a few days ago and now made the switch to ipTV. Both HDTV receivers cause the same issue with flash/blink. I have tried a different port on the Binary B210 video matris (it's a 4x4 switch) and I have tried a different HDMI cable from HDTV box(es) to video matrix. The same setup/cables works okay from the same HDMI input (HDMI2 being used) for Apple TV and my Sony Bluray player. I get no blinking/flashing whatsoever. This same setup is being shared by a larger 60 inch Pioneer (PRO1540HD) plasma TV and the TV signal to that TV works without any blinking/flashing. Hard to point to anything really when the setup works save the TV signal being sent to the Sony EX720. Note, if I set the ipTV receiver box to standard 480, then the blink/flash disappears.

Any ideas/thoughts plz.

I have this TV and 2 sets of BR250 galsses. I feel that the image is slightly distorted through both glasses. Even if the glasses are on and I look at an image, when I move my head from left to right I can see the image distorted as if some very fine lines are distorting the image. Of course that both glasses have the same effect.

Do any of you have this effect with BR250 glasses or both mine are faulty?

I'm experiencing subpar 3D performance with this set and it's widely known that this set is an under-performing 3D TV. I'm using the PS3 3D glasses and it works for the most part but I experience CT in background and sometimes foreground images.
Ok did the reset and unplugged, still seeing the occasional reboot of the set. I will call Sony someday soon to troubleshot but I suspect it's a firmware issue. Wonder if Sony has anyway to load previous versions to test.

Update - I turned on the sony upload history log just in case.

After starting to see the yellow stain on my November 2007 KDS-60A3000 in January and having it get progressively and exponentially worse I finally called Sony today. I wasn't aware of the problem with the optical block, was never contacted by Sony regarding the extended warranty, or heard about the class action suit, even though I registered the TV with Sony.

I was offered the KDL60EX720 for $1,275 + tax. I read through this thread and remember that someone was offered the same TV for $950 last year. Is the amount dependent on how long you owned the TV? I'd prefer to pay closer to $1,000. Is this price at all negotiable? With CA tax it comes to $1,373.81. I don't recall if shipping is included or yet another cost. This TV is currently selling on Amazon for $2,298 with no tax or shipping.

I really don't want to give Sony any more money and this TV is the last straw for Sony, but the Panasonic TC-P65GT50 that I was planning on as a replacement, is still brand new and is still selling at an MSRP of $3,300 on Amazon. I'm considering getting the Sony, particularly if I can get it for less, and then selling it when the Panny comes down closer to $2200-$2000 near the end of the year. Does anyone think that I could recover most of the cost of the EX720 in six to eight months? The picture on the 60A3000 is also starting to get dimmer again and I'm not sure how much life I have on the current lamp, but probably not six to eight months.

After reading about how inferior the 3D on this TV is, I'm not planning on buying the Sony 3D glasses for this Sony and will hold out on the 3D until I get the P65GT50.

I got a 46EX720 through the Sony Exchange program a little over a year ago. The program changed last October with some models being dropped and the prices going up. In my case shipping was free but I had to pay sales tax. Have you checked out the "I Have a Defective Sony TV" page on facebook yet?

I started having the following behavior on my 46EX720 recently. A couple of minutes after turning on the set, the whole screen blacks out with SONY in big letters in the middle. This lasts for a 2-3 seconds and the picture comes back. This is really bugging the hell out of me, especially when watching the NBA playoffs. Does anyone else have this problem or know a fix for it?

This is what I and some others are calling the random reboot bug(?). I and a few others feel the last firmware release might be the culprit and I have written Sony about it.

Are you on the latest fw? Things people have suggest to try are unplugging the tv for awhile, factory reset and contacting Sony support.
Ah, got it. Didn't think it was a reboot since it was so fast. Yes, I am on the latest firmware. Thanks. Anyway, last Sony TV ever for me. Paid almost $5k for my 60xs955 only to have the optical block problem then got this as a replacement and now this.

any good news with the lastest firmware update ?

2) Menus slow or not working after pressing home key
3) Internet apps that ran fine are now having issues working (lock ups, missing content)

I stressed the TV ran fine until the latest update from Sony, that I have powered the set truly off and even unplugged. The tech I spoke to put me on hold and then came back and said it needed on site service - I asked why since this could be a firmware issue and what is service going to do? He could not tell me that at all other than replace hardware but no specifics with what hardware would be replaced. I asked during the call to speak to a supervisor but that request was ignored. My goal to call was see if this issue had been noticed already and if not I wanted to report it but according to the support person it's a hardware issue and he can't report it as such.

I am not going to have service take apart a TV that worked fine until the latest software update from Sony so I wrote them an email but not holding my breath. I hope Sony does fix this issue with the next firmware.

Any luck with the site service? I'm still experiencing random reboots even after a factory reset.

I have not seen a few update yet and they want me to call support again but I work during the day when they have their usual support staff in. I heard they have a Fb page you can ask for help but haven't searched for it yet.

Just downloaded it and installed. Time will tell if it fixes the reboot and other issues some of us have been having.

4.05AAA didn't fix the reboots for me.

I had no reboots that I can remember until the second to last software update. As for internet apps I'm not in them at all when the set does the off and back on reboot.

Hey guys! I'm new here, started reading after I decided to buy a 3DTV.

Buyer's dilemma:

I was sold on the 32EX720 after watching the 3D Experience videos in the showroom. (The Amazing Spider-Man was brilliant.) However, I've spent the past two days just reading through this thread.

I was planning on getting the 32EX720 with a PS3 (Sony has a sweet bundle in India: TV + PS3 + 2 glasses + Killzone 3 + GT5 + 3 3D movies for ~$1250). Since it saves a lot (~$275) it seemed great, but I'll probably be using 3D quite often. My questions are:
1. Does switching to 720p output on the PS3 really reduce crosstalk for all users?
2. Does increasing the screen size on the PS3 settings reduce crosstalk for everyone?
3. I've read here that games like Black Ops and Crysis 2 SUCK with 3D. Is that only on the Xbox 360 or on the PS3 as well?
4. I read about SBS being a cause of a lot of problems, what about Above&Below? And is there any way to set the PS3 to display in Frame Packing, or does it depend only on the game/movie?

My other choice is a Samsung UA32D6000SR. That, with a PS3 and 3D glasses costs around $1250, hence investing in games and movies will bump up the cost quite a bit. Not able to find much about it on the forums though, looks like an India-exclusive or something. Let's just say I'm not on an unlimited budget, so I'd really appreciate if the CT issue can be fixed in the EX720 with a compromise.

Which one should I get? I'll be watching a lot of HD content (movies and games) and 3D movies/games will be, say, thrice a week.

Thanks.

What movies do you get? It sounds like a good deal but if 3d is important to you I'd steer away from any 120hz set. I had an nx810 and hx820 and both sets had way improved 3d. I have a 46" ex720 and there is viable cross talk on the top and bottom of every source and every format of 3d.
