I've been waiting over two weeks for a replacement board. I guess I should start calling people and see what happens.

The one suggestion I have that should work is connect the Audio Out jack of the TV (bottom plug in the side inputs) to the Audio Input jack on your HiFi system (front bottom center) using a stereo audio cable.
Just make sure you set the sound to Audio Out on TV using the menus and also set the HiFi receiver to the correct mode (to receive the audio) and it should work.
Good Luck

Thanks for replying Pioneer_Elte.
Audio In port of Hi Fi system is aleady been utlized by WD TV Live SMP and is working fine.

I recently changed my PC display connection to one of the HDMI port of 32EX720 ( i use a DVI to HDMI cable). pc audio out is connected to pc audio in of the TV. Issue is sound is not coming through TV.

Earlier when PC display was connected to 32EX720 through the VGA port sound was coming through TV.

Any thoughts?

Found the answer myself. I had to connect to HDMI port 4 and the sound is coming to TV.

I just recieved my call today, should here back from their other department on which tv they are going to send. They told me the part for repair is not in stock and that they would send a refurbished unit with 2 year warrenty. The unit will be the same or the closest unit available(hx850 I think). They offered this up front without me saying a word. I think they know they made a crap tv but aren't allowed to say it. The person I had for troubleshooting said they didn't know of the issue, yet it has been known with this tv and the same years hx model.

@Tebbins
I would call and get a replacement, don't think this is a software issue. It has been around for many firmware updates. Mine shows 15 fault codes on service screen.

Vol-
Power

Start with tv off, some say you have to wait a few seconds. Have to press it quick, then power off when done. Do not try and hit other buttons as I don't know what that might do.

If you hit vol+ instead of vol- it takes you to another menu. My faults were listed under wdt if I recall correctly, 15 times. All other rows were 0.

My rebooting issue always happened a few minutes after turning the set on. Installed the firmware yesterday and so far I haven't experienced it. Knock on wood.
Called Sony about the few times my TV rebooted to get it documented before my warranty runs out and I can make the case that it was an existing/documented problem.
Rep claims that there is no service log/count that illustrates how many times the TV rebooted but told me to fax in my receipt and they'll contact me to set up a service call.

Let's hope that this leads to a solution rather than Sony saying it has no record of others having the same problem.

Tinte: 0
Nitidez: 50
Reducción de Ruido: No
Reducción de Ruido MPEG: No
Reducción de Ruido de puntos: No
Motionflow: No
Cinemotion: Auto 2

Ajustes Avanzados

Blanco Claro: No
Color Vivo: No

Los lentes yo prefiero que tengan entrada de luz alta para que no se vea tan opaca la imagen.

Saludos.

Anyone tried DLAN server called Serviio ?

Its a free software. There is an option for enabling and disabling transcoding. With Serviio we can play almost everything in ex720. One issue is when files which are played via transcoding, memory utilization in PC get spiked up little. Otherwise i really liked it.

Update: A few days after submitting my receipt to Sony to verify warranty status, I get an email from Sony stating my service repair will be expidited once the part(s) are received.
I found this odd since when I called to report the problem, the rep didn't know what was causing the rebooting and there was bulletins showing similar instances from other owners, yet they can order a part without having a service tech come out to determine what the cause might be.

Now I have an appointment with two repair technicians from Worldwide Tech Services tomorrow afternoon to replace the BATV board.

Has anyone else having the reboot problem received a resolution from Sony and/or waiting for the part to come in? If so, how am I lucky enough to get a board and repair date so quickly while I'm sure others have waited longer?
I'm surprised they have a BATV board in stock. They're sending me a refurb TV due to that part being out of stock with no ETA. I got VERY upset with the 2nd level tech when they told me they have no idea when the part would be in, they immediately offered me a refurb with a 2 year warranty, which I jumped on. It gets here Wednesday.

I I've been waiting about 4 weeks for a part to come in and have had no luck when calling Sony to find out what's going on. Getting very disappointed with Sony. mad.gif
post #1847 of 1972
Call them, demand escalation, tell them that you want a working TV now and that waiting on this part is not good enough. You'll have a new TV in 5 days.

I'm surprised too. I'm thinking I would rather have a refurb with 2 year warranty. That way I'm almost guaranteed any problem will be fixed since 2 years is a long time for any problem to arise with electronics.
Enjoy your replacement tv.

Looks like the only reason for firmware updates is to address internet issues. Here's what was in the latest update last week:

Improvements over version PKG4.005AAA:

* Improved performance and stability of the Internet features
post #1850 of 1972
My refurb should be here Thursday. Looks like another ex720, I hope it does the restart, would like to get a newer tv with 240 hz.
The techs came yesterday and replaced the BATV board and it only took about a 1/2-hour. Let's hope this solves the reboot problem.

It sure is a pain recalibrating the picture settings after the repair. Guess I should've wrote down the settings beforehand.
Sdca7718, if you modified any of your picture settings from the default, you may want to write them down and save yourself some time.
Funny you mentioned that, I was writing down my settings on the back of an envelope last night, prepping for my replacement today. I'll check in in a few days with how it's working.
I just had a reboot.... the latest firmware does NOT fix the reboot issue !!
Thanks for the heads up, good idea on the settings.
Replacement is here. Worse backlight bleed (OF COURSE) than the original, but no rebooting issue. The case/bezel looks mint.

So far, the only thing the firmware updates have addressed are the Internet functions.
Refurb has its first reboot 6 days in. On hold with Sony for the umpteenth time now.
After having my BATV board replaced last week, my TV restarted for the first time this morning.
It's sort of ironic that johnnynapalm and myself had our sets repaired/replaced around the same time and experienced a reboot again at the same time.

I'm thinking the ex720 line has a problem and I'm going to push to get a different model.
Good luck. I made it to the stage where they say "go find a comparable model and we'll replace with a new set", and I told them I was interested in the HX750, as it's the closest analog to the EX720 that they currently sell this year. They had the hubris to ask me for $500 for it.

I am taking my case to sonylistens@am.sony.com where I've heard people are getting pretty good results with their chronic support issues.
I am still expriencing reboot issues but have not had any service or replacement done as of yet. Reading how multiple people are seeing the reboot issue even after repairs/replacementl and that the issue really didn't come up in this thread until a few firmware versions ago leads me to still believe it's a firmware issue. Also my reboots for the most part seem to happen shortly after I power on the set, you would think if it's hardware it would happen after the TV has been on awhile.

If that sony support address seems promising I will write to them but I don't want refurbished set/parts in a TV that works fine otherwise.
