Diablo 3 changed the idea a bit tho, now you hunt and kill packs of champion and not just boss-runs like in Diablo 2.

But you'll keep saying... just one more run then I'm going to bed

Oh don't I already know! Was almost done with nightmare mode last night. Kept saying I'd get off after each scene for about 5 hours. Game is just downright addicting.

In D2 you can use the /p8 console command to increase the difficulty and level faster.

For my barb (lvl 48 right now) I only used Dual Wield with Frenzy and Cleave. Pretty fun

I will probably try 2hand one time (when I get to lvl 60 and find a nice weapon). Don't know if it will work in Inferno tho

OH CRAP. I completely forgot you can dual wield. Oh man, such an idiot!!!

So, can he dual wield 2-handed weapons. Aren't there a couple 2-handed weapons he can wield as 1-handed? Which ones are those?

Unlike Diablo 2, you can't dual wield 2 hand weapons. However, the barb is the only one to be able to equip Mighty Weapon which look like big 2 hand weapon tongue.gif

Beat hell and started working on Inferno last night.

Hell actually got a bit difficult at the end. I hit Act IV at about midway through level 58, and I had to stop and go back and grind out level 60, get some gear, and then go back to Act IV and continue working through it. Some of the boss fights were legitimately tough, and I was getting wrecked by most champion packs.

Had to change my build a bit going into Nightmare. Using a Blizzard/Venom Hydra kiting build rather then just wrecking everything with disintegrate / arcane orbs. Works pretty well but I am worried about the lower direct damage to bosses.
Keep in mind, if you switch your builds at 60, it drops off the Nephalem Valor bonus that you have at the time....sucks finding out the hard way on Asmdeon and losing a 6 stack ;-)

HACKER! You can only have a 5 stack of Neph Valor wink.gif

Also when switching skills, try doing it in town (before you have Neph Buff) otherwise you have a cooldown, which gets longer for each difficulties. So switching skills on the go has a longer cooldown in Inferno than normal. In town, there is never any cooldown.
Yeah the neph stacks are what make builds more complicated. Otherwise you can have an aoe based build for instance clearing and a direct damage build for bosses and switch back and forth. Due to neph you need that happy middle ground.

I think the blizzard build is my best bet at the moment because I don't really have the gear for inferno and get wrecked pretty fast when i get hit. It's slows everything down by 50% allowing me to run away easier, and does decent damage in the process.

Does that mean it is a lot harder to get inferno level gear from the AH?

Gear gets expensive really fast at 60. The good stuff goes for mult-million gold price tags. For some of the top of the line weapons we're talking 20m+ if not more. You of course don't HAVE to buy the top of the line stuff, but even the stuff that isn't really killer (but is useful) goes for a few hundred thousand a piece.

I have just been patiently waiting for deals, mostly using bid's rather then buyouts to try to sneak out with decent gear for cheap. I only have (had) about 500k to get my initial gearset going so it's a bit hard to stretch that out and get something for every slot.

Yup, last night I was able to get a good deal (IMO) a fist weapon of 825 DPS, +Dex, +Vit, Life on Hit, Life steal for 1.8M (borrowed 200k from friend tongue.gif). Those weapon are all 3M+... gave me a 3k DPS boost (since my other weapon is 585 DPS). Thinking about reselling it this weekend for 4M to buy to weapon in the 1-2M range. Decision, decision smile.gif

I ran some butcher last night, after wanted to quit after the Warden I just kept going to the Butcher (why not? I was so close to him rolleyes.gif)... good decision, he dropped a nice IAS ring and some wicked Wizard gloves biggrin.gif

Can anyone explain that nephalem valor thing to me? I don't understand what that is and how it works, is it something you find?
I believe it is a buff you can acquire after reaching level 60 when you defeat certain elite/champion bosses that boosts your magic-find chances significantly. You can stack up to 5 of these buffs so people usually do runs through certain areas to build up their NV while item hunting.

When you reach level 60, every time you kill a pack of Champion (not bosses) you get a stack of Nephalem Valor for 30 minutes. You can stack up to 5 buff which each give MF + GF bonuses (don't remember the exact numbers). The timer reset to 30 minutes every pack you kill. The buff disappear if you change skills or change act or leave game.

This buff is to encourage people to kill other monsters instead of boss run like in D2. A 5 stack Neph Valor garantee à 2 Rare drops from bosses (this will be nerfed to 1 rare in patch 1.0.3).

Hope it's clear, if not, ask any more details I'll try to clarify!

Also keep in mind, the Neph Valor buff is for all difficulties once you reach Lvl 60, it's not only for Inferno.

75% total MF on a stack of 5. Gold Champions work for stacking the buff as well, just not main/mini bosses. Also, while the neph buff is being nerfed on bosses, it is being enhanced on elite packs to where they will drop a guarenteed rare as well.

I don't have D3 but I just like to theory craft a lot so I was wondering if someone bored and has a high level wizard could try this build out.

I call it the Temporal Trap high crit Wizard build. The key is using slow time and Mirror Image to draw minions into a small slow moving ball that you can blast away at. So first step is to cast Mirror Image and then slow time and then pull back a little bit. Then you do your burst damage. This part is one that I don't really have a feel for since I never played. I picked using Astral Orb and then follow up with Electrocute. Electrocute can benefit a lot from a high crit build and since you can spam it quickly it gives you the chance to get a lot of crits in. I could easily see Meteor or Blizzard used as well; this part just needs a lot of play testing. The last important piece is you need Critical mass as a passive. Slow time and Mirror Image are both on fairly long cooldowns, by having critical mass and good crit gear hopefully you can minimize the time between bursts hopefully cutting it down to 10 seconds between bursts. Anyway here you go

Temporal Trap high crit Wizard build

Active Spells
Slow Time / Time Shell
Mirror Image / Mocking Demise
Arcane Orb / Tap the Source (or Meteor sound good here as well)
Electrocute / Forked Lightning
Teleport / Fracture
Diamond Skin / Prism

Passive Buffs
Critical Mass (This one is key the other two could be changed out depending on your other pics)
Temporal Flux
Paralysis

Equipment - items that add + crit

Why pick teleport? If they’re sitting back and shooting at you then you can teleport in and then use the slow time/Mirror Image combo or it just helps to evade stuff. Why use Temporal Flux...again don’t know if it works but hopefully if your Mirror Images have mocking demise when they blow up they cause temporal flux to proc and it combines with the slow from slow time for fairly long duration super slow. Why Paralysis...if you follow up your Arcane Orb barrage with electrocute hopefully it gives you time to stun all the mobs and keep them cooled out even longer.

So you get the buff from fighting Champions but the buff only works on bosses?

I thought that boss farming wasn't worthwhile since you have to do the quest over.

No, the buff effects everything. I believe each stack gives you 20% gf + mf, stacking up to 5 times.

It was just programmed in so that bosses give guaranteed rare drops when you have full stacks rather then it being left purely to RNG.

And the 1.0.3 patch will make Champion pack with a 5 stack a guaranted rare drop also. wink.gif

Been playing quite a bit of this myself. Has anyone purchased an Authenticator yet? Is it worth it?

Once you've unlocked NM difficulty with one character, can you skip ahead to NM difficulty with another character? I have a level 35 DH in NM right now but my level 32 Monk is in the middle of Act 4 on Normal. I was wondering if I could take my Monk into a NM game with my friend or if I had to finish a normal playthrough first.

Inferno act 2 is brutal. We're able to progress but there is so much dying involved it,s incredible! We down bosses on first try but champions sometimes takes us 5+ revives mad.gif We had a fun pack last night.. the bugs in A2 (not the mosquitos the other pack) with plague, waller, illutionist, molten in the sewers.... all the ground was covered couldn't stand anywhere and couldn't run due to the closed space of the sewers.... soooooooo much fun involved rolleyes.gif

Perfect explanation, that was very clear, thank you. Now I get it, cool, can't wait to give it a try!!!!

So does anyone think the blacksmith is worth it? I was debating wether to upgrade him or not and not sure it is worth all the gold and effort to find the pages, etc. or if you just find enough good stuff going through item drops and such.

Don't waste money on him or the jeweller right now. they will drop the money required to train and craft in 1.0.3. Mine is sitting at lvl 7 waiting for this patch.

You're better taking the 10K it takes to craft a what can or won't be a great item and buy something in the AH.

Been playing on inferno with my Barbarian for the last week so so...soloed all the way up to there. MY GOD...I can easily get owned. I am currently rocking 40khps, 8k armor, 23k damage, and 300-400 all resists. Trying to find some new 1 handers, (700+ DPS with life per hit of 300+), but not having much luck, (and they are very expensive ATM). May have to go play my wizard for a while, as farming act 1 crypts and butcher runs are getting tiring, especially when all that drops is wizard gear rolleyes.gif. I gotta start leveling that wizard again to equip the gear and clear up some inventory space.
