Diablo 3 - Page 14

What does Blizzard do on the servers on Tuesday that requires shutting down access for 10 hours? What kind of maintenance takes so much time every week?

Deployment of patch 1.0.3

This patch is a pretty big deal with some major changes. Patch notes can be viewed at http://www.diablofans.com/

Yup, patch 1.0.3 is huge. Lots of DH crying everywhere tongue.gif (IAS nerf and Nether Tentacles bug fix). They will finally need to learn to play and no more easy mode wink.gif

Can't wait to see the nerf in Inferno act 2-4 also. But the MF nerf not affecting chest, weapon rack not dropping weapons... rolleyes.gif not so sure!

I used to use Diamond skin, but I used Mirror images with the exploding images...nice damage in bursts when they pop. I was finding Diamond skin did nothing for my build, as the mobs easily took it down in a hit or two max. I swapped out a ton of my armor last night for hp regen and damage, and am up to about 14k self buffed, (need a new weap), and 23k hps. I regen about 1000hps a second, and with force armor I am healing easily enough to cover a lot that is coming in at me. My only complaint is I don't have room for a signature spell, so I burn through mana quick with arcane orb, (even with reduced mana costs). I need to get a little gear to up that mana pool, as it is only ~80 with Energy armor up.

What passives are you using? You could try to fit Astral Presence in it for 20 more arcane + 2 arcane/second. So you wouldn't be cut at 80 but still be at 100. Or use the rune for Energy Armor and get the +20 from it tongue.gif

14k buffed is still more than my shy 6600k DPS unbuffed wink.gif But I still kill anything pretty fast (weird but maybe due to the fact I don't stack IAS or Crit to buff my damage number).

My Diamond Skin is able to resist a couple of hits and I'm using the duration rune (8 sec compared to 6 and not the dmg increase rune). I was able to survive Belial's grenade attack last night with it. I like having Diamond Skin as a "Oh ?&*(" emergency button tongue.gif

Can't wait to see the 1.0.3 changes in action tonight cool.gif

No real changes for Wizzie/Barbs that I can see. As for Energy Armor, my build is relaint on Force Armor, so I cannot change that rune. For passives, I am using Glass Cannon, the one that doubles the buff timer AND gives 300 health/sec regen (Galvanizing Ward?), and Illusionist, (for mirror/teleport refresh whenever I get hit for 15% of my life, which is currently down to 22k...and still ~5k too high wink.gif).

Diamond skin is nice, but it doesn't last long at all in inferno, (I swore by it as well until I hit my first champion inferno pack).

Dustin.

I'm enjoying playing the Wizard a lot too though I'm only level 32 and still on my first playthrough. I really enjoy the Archon and Disintegrate abilities but I've heard they're not sustainable at the higher difficulties. Is this true?

I also currently use Arcane Hydra, Diamond Skin and Blizzard. Still haven't made it past Nightmare with any character....I keep switching between my Monk, DH and Wizard to keep things fresh smile.gif

Except the nerf to everyone : IAS and buff to everyone : Nerf mobs' damage in act2-4 Inferno, only the DH bug fix to Nether Tentacle seems to make alot of people cry tongue.gif This is what happens when you remove cheese tactic wink.gif

I'm not in inferno yet with my Wizard so it might explain why I'm still using Diamond Skin. We'll see when I get to inferno then smile.gif

Archon and disintegrate were still useful for me in NM and I still use Disintegrate just for fun when playing with my friends and I can stand in the back just spamming laser biggrin.gif When playing alone tho, you can't stand your ground and use this skill tho

That type of build is viable through hell, as long as you swap out for bosses, (if you want to kill them faster). However, on Inferno, disintegrate and archon use is limited. When you have REALLY high DPS, archon would be good as you can keep killing and keep the buff up...until you hit that mass murder point, though, it probably would be a huge wipe fest.

I see emeralds are selling for a lot more than other gems. Is that because critical hit is more valuable than the other gem stats?
I love the demon hunter. I never got tentacles yet so the nerfing doesn't impact me. His rapid fire is insanely awesome, its like a gatlin gun. Having a blast with the character and not a single creature gets even close to me. Cool class!

Critical Hit is now the new flavor of the month! After stacking IAS and now getting it nerf, people with stack Critical Hit Chance/Damage and Blizzard will nerf it in a couple of patch... tongue.gif

My DH is only level 20 and was liking it also. Pretty deadly with my 2 rare 1-hand crossbow. My friend lvl 60 DH got a big hit last night from thr nerfs and he is now complaining how his DH is sooo weak, and gets kills in 2 hits....Lots of DH will cry for a couple of days until they can find a new build/gameplay to make it viable. Since they removed the cheesy NT biggrin.gif

Did monks cried for weeks when we got Serenity nerf? MoH nerf? Life leech nerf? Nope, we moved on and changed our play-style and build.....

Do you think the repair costs are a little excessive now?

I sure do. Seems like they were off a decimal place it's more like 500% more now instead of 50%.

Also, I did not see a reduction in cost for jewelry combines.

They're supposed to be 6-8x more costly for level 53-60 gear now. So that sounds right.

Gem combine costs were only reduced for level 2-8 gems (so up to flawless square). Anything above that still has the same costs it did before. I spent awhile last night combining up my perfects on up to flawless square and the reduced costs were definitely in place.

Although gem combine costs are reduced it still doesn't seem worth combining when you consider the cost of training the jeweler.
If that is what they were shooting for on the repair costs, that seems way excessive to me. I've also read that if you take damage, or break objects, it damages your armor/weapons as well. I farmed Hell T3/T4, last night for like 6 hours and barely turned a profit. Not fun.
That is if you take damage, break objects, and do not die, you still are tallying up repair costs. (LAME)
It makes sense though, right? If you hit something with your sword, or a Dark Berzerker hits you with a mace, you would expect to have to repair the said item over time, right? I farmed act 1 butcher runs and cats last night on my wizard and barbarian. Repairing the barb from broken took about 30k, and almost all of his gear is ilvl61+ minimum. I can make about 100k+ a butcher run selling blues to vendors and salvaging crap yellows, not to count the items I throw up for cheap to move them fast on the AH.

The whole point of the cost increase is to get people out of the zerg till it dies mentality. Now people actually have to think to take down that nasty elite pack, and not just throw themselves at the wall over and over again.

Realistic yes... this reminds me of Falcon 4.0: Allied Force, a flight simulator so realistic that it takes about 20 minutes of hitting and flipping switches to fire up your fighter jet. The simulators realism was unparallelled but it was not fun. You almost had to have another person running the keyboard (your navigator) and one guy running the flight stick, throttle, etc... it was not fun it was too realistic but it met its lofty goal of being a simulator rather than just a game.

Are they trying to make diablo 3 a ARPG or an ARPG Real life simulation. A game can go from being a game to very annoyingly realistic, really fast. This is where Diablo 3 has gone with this last patch. Trying to make equipment/weapon damage real to the point of stupidity and not being fun. I agree an increase in the cost was in order, but they made it stupid expensive to simply play. Equipment and weapon taking damage even when you do not die is torturous.

What kind of gear are you running with? On my barbarian, which is mostly iLVL61-63 gear, his repair costs were about 50,000g over 3 hours of runs total, (and he is smacking things and getting smacked constantly). I made 400k+ in just gold and blues alone selling to the vendor, and then found some nice drops for the AH to pad it even more. I am just trying to understand why you are barely breaking even is all. Do you sell your blues, or salvage them? I have found it is not worth while to salvage anything that is not a crappy yellow and not iLVL59+. For durability degradation, my costs basically went from ~30k to 50k for the same time period, (assuming I didn't have a massive wipe fest on some ungoldy elite pack).
after you salvage them, what do you do to make the money? sell the essences and such back to the vendor?
I hold on to the components and save them up. Making end game smithing items from recipe book drops are very spendy material wise. I like to save up for ~5 or more rolls, and then burn the mats to see what I get. The other option is to sell your mats on the AH...never vendor them...the AH will net you more for mats, even if you price them on the low end.

But all requirements were reduced for all gems (i.e. it takes 2 now instead of 3 of a kind ot make something better.).

Don't forget that the increase in repair cost is also a measure by Blizzard to prevent inflation. Gold is created for every player in every game so the amount of gold coming into the world is gigantic. However, the money sink are : crafting, tax on the AH and repair cost. By reducing the cost in the crafting, less money is removed from the World so the inflation continue. With the increased repair bill, more money is removed thus, preventing a little inflation.

It just sucks for casual player who didn't exploit anything and aren't sitting at 5M$ rolleyes.gif

Last night I did a butcher run with a friend and saw a Rare Heaven Hand drop! (ilvl 63 fist weapon) I was crazy... Identified it... 870 DAMAGE! eek.gif IAS, Crit hit damage... I was thinking it would be a nice upgrade from my 585 off-hand Fist weapon... but it was only a mere gain of 300 DPS.... mad.gif I kept my old weapon (+200 Dex, 597 LoH,etc). Putted the other one for sale for a couple of millions, hope it sells! biggrin.gif

Now I'm debating if I should have sell it for 4M.. greedy! smile.gif

I haven't crafted any gems above rank 8, but that doesn't match what the 1.0.3 patch notes say or their 1.0.3 preview stated. Both claim that only ranks 2-8 would have the reduced gem combine and gold costs. Everything above rank 8 is supposed to be unchanged in every way.

You are correct, rank 9 is still 30000 gold and ~3 gems.

God I HATE act 2 inferno. Painfully dragging my Barbarian through it, (I hate those wasps). With 7.2k armor, 600+ resist all, 34k hps, and 25k damage, I still am having slow progress through it. I am sure part of it is I refuse to use a shield and defensive passives, but damnit, I am a BARBARIAN! wink.gif
