Lack of excitement = When the servers are down (due to crash, maintenance, or years from now when they pull the plug) - you are sitting there looking at your expensive computer with a $60 coaster in the drive.

The servers will crash at the beginning that's a sure thing but oh well. Maintenance won't be as heavy as WoW's server. Pulling the plug?? How are you kidding? Diablo 2 is still active so if D3 is popular as D2,I don't see the servers going down before a good 10 years. And even after 5+ years, they could make it offline mode in a patch.

Guess you won't be playing Diablo 3

Not until they make it offline mode. I'm because I REALLY want to play it but will wait for offline version. I wouldn't bet against the fact that they will be around for 5 - 10 years but then again - you never know. They could get bought by a bigger company with reckless decision making and end up out of business...

I totally agree about the online only, I still don't agree on this.

They should have left the single-player offline mode. Sometimes the internet is down or you don't have a connection (in the train for instance).

I wish they had. I travel a good bit and wanted to play it on the plane.

The lack of offline mode won't really affect me since I will be only playing online with friends. I did play offline my first playthrough in Diablo 2 and sometimes tried some build (via editors) offline

You should have the possibility to have offline only character. What happens if your internet is down? You can't play... sucks

Has it been verified that if the servers are down you cannot play at all? I was wondering if it is like EA games, where if the server is down you still can pley, your status/etc is just not updated until it can connect again.

Lots (if not everything) of the informations and database are server side (to prevent hacking,bot,cheats) so it is safe to say that you can't play if the servers are down

Can't wait either! Got my new Radeon 7750 card in last week. Will install and test it out this weekend. The game ran like crap on my old card, but I'm hoping with the new card I can get 30FPS at 1920x1080 with high settings.

You'll get much better than that. I ran the beta at 1920x1080 with a Radeon 6850 and got around 80FPS.

That's great! Did you have any AA/AF enabled? Hope I can do at least 2xAA, but I could live without any AF. I'm used to the console world so I would be perfectly happy with a solid 30-40 fps

Has anyone pre-purchased the digital version of the game? I'm somewhat tempted by it as I hear you can pre-install the game on the 14th and start playing it at midnight on the 15th.

Can you re-download the client though if your computer crashes and you have to re-install?

Purchase it through Blizzard's Battlenet, and once you register it you have access to download it at any time. I registered my Diablo 2/1 and downloaded the clients right off of the site. It is a nice setup.

Blizzard is as solid as Steam when it comes to digital distribution. You can download as many times as you need to.

They are also very good at doing self-contained installs. So if you install to a separate drive as your OS, and reformat, you can come back and just launch the game from the folder it was installed to without needing to re-install.

People are getting their orders from BB and FS shipped already. Newegg will probably do the same and start the shipping.

I can't wait, the 15th will be long at work.. and the 16th also!

Yeah, Tuesday is going to be rough at work. I thought I could get same gaming in late Monday night but I found out the servers won't go live until 12AM PST and I am on the east-coast

Decision, decision... do I get up early and go to EbGames at 8 to pick up my copy (work at 8h30) or just wait at 5pm after work

Tomorrow will be long at work either way!


Edit : After verification, the store open at 10am! Might pick it up at launch break then (even if I won't have time to eat at all doing so!)

Still undecided if I want to pick it up. Diablo was there when I got my first pc. Just worried if theres enough hours of content for my money. That its not going turn into a dlc buying frenzy. Though blizzard usually takes their time to release a good product. Hope they still stay true to that with Diablo 3.

Blizzard released the last patch for D2 in 2009. That is 8 years after LOD, which was the only DLC for that game. What other company adds new free content to a game 8 years after the last DLC?

A) Valve.

B) There is a whole lot of WOW in between there that argues against your statement of Blizzard's good-will. D3 is a lot closer to WOW in implementation than it is to D2. It will see several, paid expansions if it sells well.

I wouldn't be worried about the number of hours you'll sink in this. I mean, Diablo 3 will have the same amount of content as Diablo 2 (for acts and quests) + random stuff so let's hope it's at least on par with this.

If it takes you 20 hours to clear the game (Normal, Nm, Hell) X 5 classes = 100 hours. Then you need to clean Inferno....

And with Diablo, even if you're "done" with the content, you'll keep running and farming until you find this nice shining armor, this bad ass sword, etc

As long as they are worth it yeah! Don't want to have some pandas in my Diablo

If other expansion would have been released after LoD I would have bought them all also... I'm still playing D2. (I played it yesterday to tide me over D3!)

Atleast upon release it will be focused on coop gameplay. Happy they didnt half ~cough~ it and put all their time in PVP. Seems like alot of games these days just put all the time in competive multiplayer and tack on coop as a bonus.

Diablo has traditionally been a coop game so I think people would be more upset if they didn't have that aspect of the game working at release.

Newegg charged my card so at least they'll be shipping the game sometime soon. No guarantee when I'll get it though...
