$500 To Spend... (Speakers & Receiver)

Please help a long-time member...
I've moved from a house with a dedicated HT, 106" screen with 7.1 Klipsh SB1.1's and two 15" in wall subs to a 13' living room, 42" 720p plasma and a $500 budget for speakers and receiver... I'll be hooking up to an Apple TV 2 as the primary input, steaming videos and playing my ripped library. Looking for bookshelf speakers, and probably 5.1 since the seating is against the back wall.

Would love to get the Jamo 606's but I can't do towers... I don't know that the Denon 591 is the best option for me or if it would take up too much of my budget since I don't need upconversion and will probably only have 1 digital input...

Jamo S606 5.0 setup for $350 shipped from Vanns.com. The L/R towers have an 8 inch sub built in.

Thanks Jin but like the OP says I can't use the 606's because there is no place to put towers. Bookshelf speakers are all that will work...

Comming from what you primarly had ( I bet that was quite awsome ) I can only imagine the next set up with a $500 budget will be a big disapointment no matter what you choose. If you are looking at a $500 bill for both AV & speaker set up.... as much as I hate to "paifully" say this, maybe you would be better off at looking into an Onkyo or Dennon HTIB?

You mentioned you had Klipsch in your previous set up? If you really liked them then I can only imagine that the "budget" may be a little "muddy" in dialoge for you... just a thought thou.

The speaker set up's you listed put you pretty much at your budget already without adding a receiver, at least a few set ups that is.

OK, for speakers I'm looking at the:
Jamo A340's $250
Polk RM6750 $150 (Seems like a great price...)
Polk Monitor 30's x4 + Polk CS1 Center $305 (Using the 12" Jensen Sub I already have)

Receiver:
Denon 591 $275
????? or anything that will drive 5.1, preferably with a auto-calibration feature...

OK, so call me crazy but I'm actually leaning towards the 6750's @ $150. I can't beat the price and the size does matter in our room. I know the spousal acceptance factor will be much higher with the 6705's than the 11" tall monitor 30's...


Update....
The other option is CS1 Center + Monitor 30's L/R + RM6750 satellites (in white for the wife...) Would I really notice the 6750's in the rear when panning? Also if I did this I'd have to use my old Jensen sub which is nothing to write home about. For the price it seems the 6750 may be the answer...?

For movie watching no I don't hear a real notable difference. Match the front 3 that's what matters the surrounds are less important so the rm6751's will work great and keep you and your wife happy.

Finding a full white rm6750 is next to impossible but you can buy individually. The rm6750 sub ain't anything to write home about and I will upgrade as soon as I move out of my Apartment with paper thin walls I would keep the Jensen until you can spend a bit more

With the denon receiver it has audyssey multieq which will balance the system out perfectly.

FWIW, my secondary HT is in a room that's somewhat larger than the OP's and which also has seating against the rear wall. It has 2 x Monitor 30's and a CS1 for L/C/R and 2 x Sony B1000's for surrounds along with a BIC F-12 sub. This works very out nicely.

Aarrrrggggg!!! So I was getting pretty excited about Monitor 30's, CS1 and RM6750's and realized that I can get a Denon AVR-791 (for less than $300) and do 7.1 with a height channel. It might actually work pretty good with my setup... What do you think? If I did that I may have to go with the 6750's all the way around, not sure that I could justify the additional cost of a second set of 6751's for height.

Take a look at my front wall in the attached pic. What do you think?
Maybe just get the 791 and wait on the speakers? I can buy those later...

under $300 is a very good price for the 791.

the Monitor 30, CS1 come on sale all the time.

I'd get the receiver first.

the RM6750 is a steal @ $150 so you might want to get both.
