This comes out in limited release today and hopefully wider in the coming weeks. Like lwright84 says there's lots of positive feedback out there for this flick. Skip Cowboys & Aliens and save your $ for ATB.

*no Olivia Wilde in this

Just saw this recently. Wonderful and well paced film. Strikes the right blend of comedy and sci fi action but all takes place in an urban apt building. The cast is great, but its real easy to miss the humor as their English is primarily south London street-based and heavy on the accent.

Well worth a second viewing just to catch the dialogue you missed.

8.5/10

right on, so far I recall most of the films you like or don't fall in line with mine so can't wait it for on 10/25 from my BB cue.

Really enjoyed this one. Funny, lots of action, some scares and an all around entertaining movie. Definitely will pick it up on Blu-ray.

Just got done with an early screening of this and it pretty much played out like I thought it would from the trailer. This is more in the vain of gremlins, a kid/teen coming of age film with the alien looking something from created my muppets Jim henson. Those creatures look nothing more than a mean big stuffed animal running around. In fact it reminded me of that fuzzy blue thing from monsters, inc. Anyways, it wasn't really not scary or interesting nor was it creative use of f/x. For those who bought it, good luck and hope you will be able to enjoy more than me. If it weren't for all the F bombs, it could have been a G or pg rating. Another over hyped film gone by the waste side.

One of my best blind-buys EVER.

Imagine Cameron's Aliens re-formated....
Space Marines = Teen Gangsters
Corporation = cops
LV426 = south London
colony = apartment building
Ripley = top teenage gang-banger

Good fun, real tension, highly skilled movie-making.

FWIW, the AV of the BD is very, very good.

Highly recommend turning on the SUBTITLES.

Redboxed the DVD this weekend and really enjoyed it. The punks grew on me as the movie went on. No slow spots and the creatures were perfect. Lots of LFE too - the BD must be thumpin'!

Make it so they're too black to see rather than some cheesy laughable syfy stuff. Just let the movie do its work.

So a remake is in the works as reported on IGN..typical Hollywood slack.

This movie would have been great for me except I could not stand the punks.. there are too many 'punks' like that in real life... I was rooting for the aliens the whole time. I would have love to have seen every single one of those punk a** kids get their heads ripped off.

That's odd...but you like movies where innocent women and men are getting tortured. That happens in real life too..just sayin'.

I did like 'Attack the Block' but it could have been great for me if they had not made the punks the heroes (how about making a group of kids the punks bullied the heroes instead). In the other movies you are talking about the bad guy isn't made out to be the 'hero'. You have no sympathy for the 'bad guy!

The punks may have saved the block but then of course the next day they go back to robbing anyone who walks by. I guess I just don't like people that think they 'own' something when actually they don't.

Ah but that would have been too cookie-cutter for me. I thought the anti-hero angle was a nice change. I can't stand kids today especially the disrespectful young teens but these punks didn't seem too bad to me.

Was that supposed to be the UK version of a hood? Maybe the American version will have the kids from The Wire. That's what I'm talking about! The aliens would be begging for a piece of the block instead.
post #29 of 50
Why does there have to be any "heroes"? Plenty of excellent films, books and even TV have no real heroes. Kind of like life.

I didn't see any effort to make the kids into heroes, just make them real. We had the woman to place our empathy with, and the smaller kids. But its certainly not a requirement to have a hero in any story.

Fair enough Airboss..
