Pioneer Blu-ray players 2011 - BDP-140/BDP-440/BDP-LX55/BDP-53FD - Page 54

I have an odd problems with my newly purchased BDP-140.

It works fine with SACD-R, however, when I insert a genuine Hybrid SACD, it said "Unknown disc format" and cannot play.

The SACD I tried playing is Antonio Vivaldi - La Stravaganza, 12 Violin concertos , performed by Rachel Podger.

Does anyone have similar problem? Any help will be appreciated.

I found some hacked CFWs (we call it "jailbroken firmware") for BDP-150/440/450 at an Chinese forum, version 4.03 for 150/440 and v5.05 for 450.

All of them are activation-free and have been tested, but I accept no liability.

Here is the link: http://pan.baidu.com/share/link?shareid=308686&uk=2197935109

Somebody at that forum said he was working on a free v5.08 CFW for BDP-140, it will be released soon hopefully.

Thanks a bunch. Any link to reviews or features for these cfw(s) ? Also, do you know if the cfw for bdp-150 compatible with bdp-140, vice-versa ?
All reviews are in Chinese. I skim through the whole thread, most of the feedbacks are positive. BD-ISO, 3D, subtitles, DLNA, etc. works fine.

The firmware can only be used on specific device as noted, i.e. you can't burn 150's FW onto 140.

v5.0x added some network features such as SMB protocol support.

I actually wrote the password in the file name.

BDP-140: www.hdlsl.com

Others do not require password.

This is a known problem with older firmware including cfw4.03. It was fixed in the latest official firmware from Pioneer. I don't know if it's fixed in the latest cfw5.09.

Anyway thanks for the firmware links. smile.gif

Thanks. Any reference for this issue?

Right you are. The problem is, that CFW 5.05 is a fake. It has the same functionality, as CFW 4.04 for BDP-450 does, having nothing to do with actual versions of CFW 5.0X from "Chinese students" (I do like this legend rolleyes.gif). If it doesn't have to be activated, that's good as it will be easier for owners of BDP-450 to use it. Real 5.0X versions of CFW have a couple of significant advantages over CFW 4.0X (5.05).

Actually I'm not very interested in upscale performance. I just wanted to know if it can or can't. It was a discussion elsewhere. It was being said that BDP-140 may not have this feature according to User Manual or Specs. page on Pioneer website. But there are also many reviews who says BDP-140 has a good upscale performance.

I'm also aware of HD audio issue with .mkv s. This is not big issue for me, my Neo TV 550 will handle these kind of .mkv movies. However 1080p .mkv playback issue was important for some friends who will decide buying this player.

Anyway, thanks again.

MKVs with HD Audio will play in most players. The issue is bitrate. Video is compressed and if you add hd audio, the transfer rate will be higher than usb transfer rates. I have both oppo 93 and bdp-140 with custom fware 4.03. None of my mkvs with dts-hd plays except one. It plays fine on both the players thru usb. after checking media info, it has 19 mbps bitrate while the others are more than 23 mbps. You can reduce the bitrate using ripbot etc. but it is pain and takes lot of time.
Try to burn mkvs with dts-hd to blank bluray - i will try and post it. it should work. DVDs wont work as their transfer rate is low.

BDP-140 upscales to 1080p. But the quality is similar to most sony basic bluray players, but cant compare with oppo. I would use a a/v receiver with good chip to upscale. Pioneer upscale definitely better than most tv upscaling.

Play with your SACD settings and check. Are you using DSD or PCM output to receiver via hdmi? which firmware are you using?

Is there a way to use external subtitles with dvd discs or video_ts folders like bluray discs or bmvd folder?

Hi. Is there any way that you can convey to these "developers" whether they could include mkv mvc into the cfw? I know this is a moot point considering 3DBD isos are playing flawlessly but I guess the more formats supported, the merrier tongue.gif
post #1604 of 1727
CFW v4.03 and I use PCM output via S/PDIF. But I don't think it's the setting that goes wrong. SACD-R plays perfectly.

Yes, you are right. It's not a real 5.0x. I forgot to mention it. Please just treat it as an activation-free version of 4.03.

As you said, they are not true developers. If the SoC used by Pioneer, MediaTek MT8555, doesn't support certain format or encoding, there is no way to do it. \

AFAIK, .mkv files can already be played.

Hi guys,

I come from Slovenia,

yesterday I bought bdp 140 and flashed it with CFW 4.03 .

Firmware is realy good, but I have issues wit external subtitles. If leave them as they are european encoding 1250 srt file characters š,č,ć,ž,đ are not displayed correcty. They are displayed as chinesse. If I encoded them to UNICODE they are displayed 100% correctly but subtitles are displayed way to right from the centre position, can somebody tell me why is this or somebody experiencing same problem or HOW TO SOLVE THIS PROBLEM.

I already tried all encoding in intial setup of the player. That did not work out anything.

Thanks in advanced.

I'd like to know how the 450 with CFW handles the mkv files.. it displays proper 24hz/23.976Hz??
slonato2004,

there's a program that fixes the issue with subtitles, made by Brazilian users. Don't ask me how to work with it. :-) Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

dacari72,

Don't worry, Pio can handle both:).

Anyone has a link to the bdp-140 cfw version 4.02?
4.03 cfw is nice and all but the listing of files in non-alphabetical order is slowly getting annoying. I heard that 4.02 doesn't have this problem. However, before I delve further, just wanna confirmation whether 4.02 support ext3 filesystem.

Thanks ADVIZER!

I will give it a try.

4.02 doesn't support ext3. 4.03 offers following features:
- no DVD cinavia
- support 3TB HDD over USB
- support ext2/3/4

Thanks Advizer. Luckily checked ext3 functionality first before applying 4.02 (Yeah, managed to find a link). Hopefully next cfw for bdp-140 will fix the alphabetical order mess.

Does it support DTS HD-MA, DTS-HD and TrueHD audio codecs in Bluray disc and Mkv?

I played an mkv with dtshd-ma, it played fine. Had to wait 1 or 2 seconds for the receiver to display "DTS HD-MA Audio" but after that it was plain sailing. Of course, I used bitstream in the hdmi setup. Have yet to test mkv with true-hd but I suspect should be okay.

Issues with MKV+DTS-HD. An MKV-file with DTS-HD should be converted into .mts or .m2ts.

Yep.

Hmm Advizer, so just to confirm...my success in playing the mkv with dts-hd ma was due to bitstream right ? I mean if it was played using the player's audio decoder, it will fail ?
