Actually I'm not very interested in upscale performance. I just wanted to know if it can or can't. It was a discussion elsewhere. It was being said that BDP-140 may not have this feature according to User Manual or Specs. page on Pioneer website. But there are also many reviews who says BDP-140 has a good upscale performance.
I'm also aware of HD audio issue with .mkv s. This is not big issue for me, my Neo TV 550 will handle these kind of .mkv movies. However 1080p .mkv playback issue was important for some friends who will decide buying this player.
Anyway, thanks again.
MKVs with HD Audio will play in most players. The issue is bitrate. Video is compressed and if you add hd audio, the transfer rate will be higher than usb transfer rates. I have both oppo 93 and bdp-140 with custom fware 4.03. None of my mkvs with dts-hd plays except one. It plays fine on both the players thru usb. after checking media info, it has 19 mbps bitrate while the others are more than 23 mbps. You can reduce the bitrate using ripbot etc. but it is pain and takes lot of time.
Try to burn mkvs with dts-hd to blank bluray - i will try and post it. it should work. DVDs wont work as their transfer rate is low.
BDP-140 upscales to 1080p. But the quality is similar to most sony basic bluray players, but cant compare with oppo. I would use a a/v receiver with good chip to upscale. Pioneer upscale definitely better than most tv upscaling.
