This **** is gonna happen eh.. ? The show should've ended a long time ago. Although, I feel sorry for the rest of the cast. Killed their jobs...

I also think the show won't last more than a season. It will be just like when News Radio had to replace Phil Hartman. That show only lasted an another season.

I haven't been reading any details about Ashton Kutcher's character. Is he coming in as Charlie, like the new Darrin on Bewitched or is he a totally new character?

Personally, I think the funniest thing they could do would be to have a different actor play Charlie each week and have a running gag where Alan says stuff like "did you get your hair cut?", "have you lost weight?" or "Is that a new shirt?"...

At some point, you get Keith Richards to play the part and everyone who sees him says, "you look terrible...rough night last night?"

The punchline would be for the season finale to have him portrayed by a hot female.

I agree with the OP that it has been over time the funniest show ever. Comedy is so highly subjective though , so I can see other points of view.

As long as the show stays on for a bit I'll be happy. Alan was the funniest character for me anyway. If he left, then I would wonder how funny it could be afterwards. The writing is great for the most part so I will be watching ..

It will last one season- tops.

Now that is a good idea and would at least get the show ratings every week.

Oh, I only watch the older re-runs when he drove a jag and have not watched a new weekly episode in years.

Awhile back, CBS renewed the show for two more seasons. I am not sure if that brings it to the end of 2011-2012 season or 2012-2013 season. If it is the latter, I wonder what kind of "escape clause" may be built into it?

I give the show one more year, tops.

I read somewhere this morning (WSJ?) that Kutch only signed a one-year deal anyway. Should've done this as a spin-off show; definitely dead in a year.

Maybe that is what the one year is all about...
I have to admit it's weird without Charlie, but I found myself enjoying the season premier anyway.
Doesn't work for me. Kutcher is his own old dumb self of the 70's Show. I like all of the characters, but they did revolved around Charlie. I digress, Jake the teen is not funny anymore, was cute at the beginning. Time to move on.

I'll give it a chance, not a big A.K. fan.... but I'm hoping he'll grow into the role.

Let's face it... Charlie Sheen was unique in this role. I don't think I've ever seen a situation where the role was so similar to the actors real life. That was the appeal of it- I used to watch Charlie just because he was a train wreck waiting to happen.

Actually I didn't see Kelso at all in his character--Kelso was dumb remember? PAINFUL-TO-WATCH DUMB. This character is a bit pathetic and sad, but in a funny way--and definitely not dumb.

Not sure where they're going to take his character--stumbling and bumbling into one night stands every episode, or chasing his ex--but at least they didn't make him an alcoholic...yet.

I've read some people are upset because the show wasn't believable because the characters didn't mourn Charlie properly--I thought THAT was the joke, and it was actually pretty funny.

Actually, they have contract obligations to fulfill to meet the syndication rights they have already sold. Surprisingly Sheen wasn't tied into the agreement so they simply have to hit x number of episodes. Or they would have to give x truckloads of money back...

All I know is the show came to a screeching halt when Kutcher showed up. But wait, That 70's Show also came to a grinding halt whenever he was on. I see a pattern developing.
Like it or not, Kutcher debut got very good ratings.
I was disappointed. It looks like they are just going to turn Ashton into Charlie. I thought this was a chance to take the show in a different direction. Oh well. I give it a year.
The eulogy for Charlie was brilliant. And the rest of the episode was better than I ever expected it could be.

Like a train wreck attracts people to watch the tragedy. I am with folks who say it will last this year and probably die a well deserved death.

I was open to the change and to Kutcher taking over, but he is just not a good actor. Charlie WAS Charlie, so it wasn't acting on his part. Kutcher is such a poor actor that you are constantly reminded that he is Ashton Kutcher trying to act.

Very disappointing. I'll watch the conclusion again this week but that may be it for me.

They are going to introduce his character over several episodes at the beginning of the season. The emotionally broken character from the first episode will evolve as the show goes on. The question is, "Will viewers stay around for this progression, or will they lose interest based on first impressions alone?"
If all he is going to evolve into is Charlie, then they missed the chance to take the show into an entirely new direction.
So...I'm guessing around sweeps we'll see a guest appearance by Demi?...wait, are they still together?

Maybe some people are just mourning Charlie, and that might make it harder for them to accept Ashton's character...if they ever will. Think about it, everything he does is gonna seem "wrong" or out of place because he's not Charlie...we liked Charlie's character and the way he portrayed him--this guy is Kelso, or some character from a movie I've never seen--he doesn't belong but he's being forced on us. I felt it too--it WAS weird! Yet, I still enjoyed it. From the beginning of the episode I was ready to cringe when they threw this new character at us, so I did--A suicide attempt? REALLY? Oh and he happens to be a billionaire? And look how fast he befriended Alan...and still, through it all, it still had that certain something that made it enjoyable.

Yeah-we all know how willing Hollywood is to take a chance and change a proven high dollar revenue stream in order to creatively "change direction".
Follow the money in trying to understand what happens in many situations.
Greed is very very ingrained above all else.

Cheers did it somewhat well. I thought Kirsty was ok for a year or two.

I thought tonights episode was better than last weeks. It still hurts to watch Ashton try to act.

Yeah, he's pretty bad. Not sure how much longer I'll hang with the show.
