MA5050 or iNuke for LMS5400

I have a LMS5400 in a 4cuft sealed box which I originally designed with a 3000 watt amp in mind (iNuke). However instead of waiting for the Behringer amp to be available I was thinking of buying a used Marathon 5050. In winisd with 5000w in the 4cuft box the driver starts to excede max excursion. Is this accurate or can the LMS5400 handle the 5000w. Keep in mind I will be pushing whatever amp I get to clipping often. Another option is to high pass the amp at 10-15hz but this seems counter productive in a seald setup. What do you guys think?

I think - don't push you amp to clipping often. Sure, test it's limit but why would you set out to abuse your gear like that on a regular basis? I would get the Marathon and be sensible with it.

Nobody has an inuke yet. A marathon will sufficiently drive a 5400. Going by behringers inflated numbers, you'd want the 6000 anyway.

It is my understanding that the 6000 is not bridgeable. I could be wrong, but the 6000 looks to be 2 internally bridged 3000's in one box.

That's correct.

I looked at these before going with LG clones. Clones were definitely the better choice However, an MA-5050 can easily power an lms 5400 in 4 ohm bridged mode.

You shouldn't unless you push it too hard. It has these lovely knobs on the front that control gain

Anyone know how much the Marathon can put out at 5Hz? Quick model in WinISD shows the LMS 5400 can take 4000W from an amp if a 1st order HPF is applied at 4Hz in a 3.5ft^3 box.

Bosso has said they have a rolloff at 5hz but are pretty flat till there. I've run sine waves through them at 10hz and they have used all available power at the outlet.

NYT,

My understanding of the gain controls on the front are only for the incoming voltage and will not effect the output "gain" of the amp. In looking at the sparse manual, I do not even see what gain this amp has.

Looking at my QSC GX5 manual, it states "voltage gain at 8 ohms=34.4db". There is nothing like that in the Marathon manual unless I missed it.

Your LMS5400 is in a 4cuft sealed box so that size limits the LMS5400 excursion already. Of course if you start boosting the low end then you might hit Xmax.

Even if it hits 2000w / channel your only missing 3db or less headroom per driver.

I'm all for over the top everything, but not everyone needs that.

I know for TJHUB's setup - even the 1400w per channel is enough for his needs and has a good amount of headroom.

I want to get as much out of the lms5400 as I can because I am in a verry large room 10,000cuft with only this 1 driver and I will not be buying another one due to space restrictions. Hey Warpov I know you have 1 ma5050 bridged per driver, have you ever bottomed the driver when puching your system?

I don't have MA5050.

I have 6 Crest 8002's at 4000w per driver, and yes with these amps you can push the drivers into bottoming, especially if you are not paying attention to your gain structure and you start to clip....

I'm not sure if the MA5050's hit stated specs of output, but I'm sure the 8002's are much closer to rated specs... These things are beasts...

That room size is very close to mine, and I can in all honesty state that one sealed is not nearly enough, I would get the PR's for that build if it were me....

The sub is in a built in wall unit and only had space for 4 cuft, so no way I could use passive radiators and no way for a second sub. The room is only actually 10'x16' but open to the rest of the house. My goal was to fit the most potent sub I could into the 4 cuft space in my wall unit. I started with a pb12 plus, then to a mal-x and ep2500 sealed, now to lms5400, just trying to decide on the amp.

an ma-5050 will do well with it. I've tested the configuration before with a single lms5400 on an ma-5050 in 4 cubic feet.

If you could find a pre/pro with a dynamic eq, you could set it to compress the lowest octaves as the volume increases. I have a behringer deq2496 and can do it, but the lowest frequency in its DEQ is 20hz.
