Wow, according to some other sites it may be a DNS thing (registration?). Apparently, some are able to log on without issues.

Audiokarma discussion.

I just logged in at 9:17 local time...

Maybe an ISP glitch in your area.

That is what I get right now.

+1. Couldn't see "subwoofers" in the menu, but could search for Paradigm and get the expected results (not that I do this daily . . .)

Everything appears fine but when I click on any of the links like subwofers or processors it gives the error message Penn posted. JUst have to type in what you are looking for until it gets fixed.

I got on fine this AM and then had trouble later in the day.

No, the overpriced primo-place is still alive and well. Well, I guess I'm glad that such a place exists ("centralized" higher end used equip), but it worries me when I see it spoken of so often here in such a mythical way. AG is no different than Ebay, it's just made up of players selling nothing but expensive stuff that you're still taking a chance on. But for some reason, many people don't expect to get hoodwinked...just because the equipment is higher end.... and higher priced. As always, caveat emptor..........

I see no reason why it would worry you. If you dont use the site, why comment. The selection of used equipment on AG is a lot better than what I have found on ebay. To date, I have made over 10 purchases with zero issues.
As for nothing but expensive stuff, I disagree with you there. Lots of not so expensive stuff on the site too. As for being mythical, I guess any site that has good to great equipment I happen to be looking for... Yes I guess you can define that as mythical. I would not, rather I would just say, wonderful.

I'd trust my purchases at Audiogon far more then I would fleabay...

Fleabay has gone down the $hitter...

The market will dictate the price, not Audiogon.

LOL, if either of you would step back for a moment and consider your positions while using critical thinking, you'll quickly realize that there are, in reality, no set standards" at either place, and that the ability to sell is open to anyone. Now, if you've finally realized that you've based your opinions and expectations on a wrapper (their "level" of goods and the fact that it "specializes" in audio gear as opposed to Ebay)....you've taken your first steps toward seeing my point. If not...lol...well, it's all good. Didn't mean to speak lowly of a favored place, but yes, someone actually tried to rip me off there. However, that's really beside the point. The experience just made me realize that my expectations were as skewed as yours are now . Although, I'm sure my case was just a blip...like what you hear about on Ebay, because we know they both have screening of sellers. Oh, wait....

sorry to hear about the experiences. I am sorry that you had a bad experience there dbx. I have had a few transactions there. so far it's been ok.

But i just got done with a transaction with someone that had over 150 feedbacks there. their email communication was bad. took them a week to ship after receiving my payment. and I need to often send 4 emails to get one reply from them. after product was shipped, it was missing parts. another 2 emails later, the remaining parts were shipped. it definitely was not a "positive" experience for me, despite the 95% or so of good feedback.

So each site has lousy sellers, but I'd say for those of us that are on this site more, we would be able to find what we are looking for, used gear wise, with slightly better chance at audiogon.

Aren't audiogon restrictions much tighter than ebay? I think that's why people trust audiogon.

I'm getting the page from the server offering the site for renewal. I'm guessing they owe money, be it accidental or intentional.

Sure, that's a given that I mentioned previously; they're geared toward people like us. Or at least, they don't sell a bunch of other "stuff" .

Not that I know of, and I've bought from both. In fact, how many sellers on AG announce that, "I Prefer check or money order. If you must use Paypal... add 3%)? I don't know about you guys, but I'd rather use a CC or Paypal, so that I at least have someone to fight for me if there is a problem. And I can tell you this; if I hadn't used PP last time, the guy would have laughed all the way to the bank. Good luck stopping payment on a personal check or money order if there is a problem......

I just got two fantastic buys on vintage gear from Ebay (Hey, I don't love them either), and I don't buy from anyone with under a 99.5% positive rating (with at least 300+ sales). These people will do almost anything to please their customers and keep their cherished ratings. But sure, you can't please everyone....and stuff happens.

Anyway, it wasn't my intention to change the direction of the thread. I just get tired of seeing them sort of held up as the holy grail of used audio, and felt that the youngsters here should at least "see" some other views of what they are while the opportunity presented itself to me . No offense was intended toward anyone. We all take chances when buying used gear from anyone.

In my experience,95% is a low positive rating. I try not to deal with anyone with less than 99%. I have 400 transactions with 100%. It's not hard if you do the right thing. There is always the occasional nut who can't be mollified, of course.

well, 95% was actually guess work. I looked up the seller's rating on AG just now. the seller does not have any negative, and has 3 neutral. so by fleabay standard, this seller on audiogon would have 100% positive if they were selling on fleabay. I guess we should start paying attention to neutral from now on too. Cause I am not rating this transaction as positive for sure.

dbx, good to know you were protected. I always get the funny feeling with money order or personal check too. I figured paypal and credit card at least protect you more than the other methods.

I just got 4 good deals off Ebay - from top rated sellars. I will also,
shop there again.

I've browsed Audiogon a couple times today... and haven't had any issues with the site...
Audiogon's domain expired; that's why some people had trouble finding their server. This whois search shows they updated their domain today. It usually takes a while for all the DNS servers on the internet to get updated after you renew.

you are not browsing hard enough like the rest of us. you must now go browse super hard, until your computer catches on fire, then you will see the issue that we all came upon.
