Panasonic S30 vs ST30

Hey folks,

Looking for some advice here from some knowledgable people. I'll start by saying one thing: I don't care one bit about 3-D capability. I'm looking for picture quality and value.

I am shopping for a Panasonic 42-inch plasma television and seriously considering the ST30 and S30 versions. I know that the ST30 is about $250 more expensive (depending on the retailer) than the S30 because of various reasons. However, as I pointed above, I don't care about 3-D capability.

I have heard while lurking on a couple forums that the ST30 actually has a little bit better picture quality than the S30. The main use, and what I care about the most, is how good the TV will look while playing PS3 games and watching Blu-Rays. So I have to ask: does the ST30 have better picture quality; and, on a value standpoint, is it worth the extra cost?

The ST30 panel is a pretty big jump from the S30. Well worth the $250.

Agree with sponge. Like it or not, the 3D plasmas are considerably better than the 2D only plasmas (at least with the 2011 models). Just think of 3D as an extra feature you don't have to actually use.

The ST30 is definitely worth the extra cost - it's a lot better than the S30.

Thanks for your input, everyone, and your advice will be duly noted!

Obviously, something like the VT30 would be really admirable but it's just out of my budget range :/

I will take a more serious look at the ST30 now.

I had the chance to see these two sets side by side (42 ST30-50S30) and though the bigger display looked inviting there definitely was a very big difference in the PQ with whatever was running on the screen. I even had a blu-ray hooked up to them both and much better blacks on the ST30 that just added a depth and crispness to the PQ. I've had the ST30 for about 2 months now hooked up to a blu-ray, Roku and TW cable and can't be happier about how this looks in my living room. And not one problem.

The VT30 would be a good jump, but the ST30 would be no shame either. It is a solid TV, I think that you would be pleased with.
