I was planning on re-using the guts of my current Q6700 machine for my HTPC and building a new PC to be my primary tower. However, since my current board won't support both the Hauppauge and another video card (only one PCI-E slot) it means I'd have to buy another motherboard.
This has led me down the path of wanting to buy only what I need to build the HTPC (I have some components already) which would be a considerably cheaper route.
My aims with this system are mainly just as a PC connected to the TV to surf and play online videos, and to capture in HD from my cable HD-PVR via component.
See what you think about this spec, I'd be grateful for some feedback.
Mobo - BIOSTAR H61MU3 LGA 1155 Intel H61 (LGA1155, max 8GB RAM)
CPU - Intel Core i3-2100 Sandy Bridge 3.1GHz
RAM - G.SKILL Value Series 4GB 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10666) - (One module, so I can double up later if I need it)
Capture - Hauppauge Colossus PCI-E capture card
Video - GIGABYTE GV-N210OC-512I GeForce 210 512MB 64-bit GDDR2 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready
Case - Thermaltake V3 Black Edition
Total $472 delivered from Newegg.com
I already have:
Thermaltake 600w PSU
Black SATA DVDRW drive (can upgrade to BD drive later)
2TB hard drive
All the cables I need
Wireless keyboard with touchpad
Windows 7 Pro x64
I like that the mobo has two PCI slots in between the PCI-E 16x and 1x slots so this should allow for decent cooling.
I was told in another thread that with the Hauppauge Colossus you still need a video card as well, so I included one above. But if that's the case can anyone tell me why the Colossus has an HDMI output if it's not able to be used as the system's primary video output card?
