I don't know much about this, so I'm wondering if this a good deal?? thank you!

Yea Amazon and Newegg will sometimes have good sales. I have seen it lower but not much and not often.

A tad better and more reliable vendor

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16815706001

I paid $ 269.00 a moth ago from same vendor . Apparently they are on the rise again ...

Edit : Sorry Fanta , we posted at the same time

When purchasing the card from Amazon, the process is handled by Amazon AND covered by Amazon's return policy because the order is Fulfilled by Amazon. This means that if the buyer happens to run into compatibility problems with their system, they can return the card without paying a restocking fee. OTOH, if you purchase from NewEgg and run into a compatibility issue, you'll probably have to pay a 15% restocking fee (NewEgg will sometimes waive this, but not always). For such a small price difference and as much as I like buying from NewEgg, I'd probably go with Amazon in this case. IMHO, of course .

1. Click on my computer.

2. Look at the left pane of the window, you should see towards the bottom a Network list or just a clickable text "Network". Click it.

3. You should see your Ceton card there, right click and it should give you the option to go to the device's web page. Maybe just clicking it will do the same.

Hmm, not me. On "Network", I only see the computers attached to my network. The only place I can find a reference to the Ceton is in Device Manager under Network adapters. Is there some hidden setting I need to activate??

You should have an icon for the diagnostics program on your desktop (or in your start menu); open that, then go to the "Devices" tab and click on "Go to InfiniTV device webpage."

From there you can check things like individual tuner temp, signal strength, and TA diagnostics (if you use one), among other things.

I couldn't find the exact image, but look here:

http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget....dctupnp_md.jpg

Instead of ATI TV Wonder, it would say Ceton. Just to make sure you were at the right location.

If you don't see it there then I believe you don't have the card configured properly. But I may be wrong. I know that when I have had problems in the past with the card being installed properly per the Ceton utility I won't see my tuner in the network section.

Try going to your network adapters, you may see it there. Check the IP, if it is a funky looking address (not 192.168.1...) then your card might not have a correct IP...

Good points, but I have to say that Newegg is an awesome company to deal with. I have had to deal with returning and that sucks, but I wouldn't let that discourage your from dealing with Newegg.

I am fond of both companies by the way.

If you are using default settings, this is the typical url http://192.168.200.1/Services/System.html that will show you the system info.

You can open the ceton infinitv diagnostic tool, click on devices then click goto infinitv device web page.

I've dealt a ton with both Amazon and NewEgg over the years and have never had any issues purchasing from either. All the parts (other than the tuners, which were only available from a few vendors at the time) for my Ceton system came from NewEgg as have most of the parts for a bunch of other builds over the years. When the price is the same or close, I usually go with Amazon because their return policy is definitely better (as long as it's being sold or fulfilled by Amazon). I've never had a hassle returning something to NewEgg, but that restocking fee can really sting .

I've been monitoring my card for a while now and it definitely looks like a few issues. Primarily, it looks like there's a memory leak that's causing the reboot and there is a crash and reboot of the upnp_ocur_serve process.

I went through my logs and grabbed some times over the last day and you can see the Ceton Used SDRAM increasing steadily until it's almost completely used then it gets an out of memory and reboots.

[129400.990000] Out of memory: kill process 30892 (upnp_ocur_serve) score 6540 or a child
[129400.990000] Killed process 30892 (upnp_ocur_serve)

or sometimes it just randomly crashes and reboots with the following:

[43600.240000] Fault whee upnp_ocur_serve [6937]: segfaults at 75756000 pc=0008eb70
[43600.310000] Fault whee upnp_ocur_serve [6937]: segfaults at 75756000 pc=000fd6c4

I really with Ceton would get this resolved. I run an IT and home automation company and this would be a great addition to the products I offer but I can't do so until it's rock solid.

Great, thanks. Found it. Now when I input it into my browser it goes right there. Thanks again.

This is a duplicate post from the Assassin HTPC thread, but it was suggested I ask other people who have my tuner card.

Copying Prohibited

The broadcaster prohibits this content from being copied. You can only play this content on the same computer on which it was recorded.

I'm getting this on HBO for live and recorded programs. I've googled and searched the forums, there's a lot of responses, but most are outdated and involve reinstalling Windows... since this is a fresh install of Win 7 I can't see myself doing that right away. Any tips?

Has this ever worked? Was this recorded before or after you reinstalled the OS?

Dupe
No, I don't believe it has ever worked. I just built the HTPC and got the Ceton card installed last week. Neither recording or live TV are working for me.
Was Windows installed on this PC, or was the Windows install from another PC?
I installed a fresh copy of windows on this PC. It was not an upgrade. However, my storage HD was originally in another comp. I have a SSD and a bigger content disk. My "recorded television" folder is on the bigger content disk.

What are your PC Specs?

Not on that computer now unforunately. It's essentially a duplicate of one of Assassins builds. I3 Sandybridge. 4gb ram 80gb SSD for OS. 750 gb older 7200 RPM harddrive. Using on board graphics and the Ceton PCIe of course.

did you try having charter resend the signal? Sometimes the card fails authentication for certain premium channels.

What about other HD channels, like discovery or speed?
Do they record?
Can the saved files be opened with video-redo (or other editing program) for editing?

I'm considering a similar build, as you, with Ceton card; but this problem is putting me back on the fence...

On a side note; it can be helpful if you include your location in your profile/sig line.

Just to be clear, these files are freshly recorded and on this PC, right? Assuming so, I would recommend this article next:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/976590

Note that running ResetDRM.exe will make any protected recorded TV files unable to play permanently.
My other HD channels do OK. I haven't had Charter re-send the signal, but I will. I'm not getting ScifiHD, but honestly don't know if it's supposed to be part of my package or not (I'll check on an actual box to see if it's supposed to be included). The picture does (occasionally) flash on for a second before showing up as copy protected.

Yes they are freshly recorded on this PC, just on a second HD. The files are already unplayable... no loss.
Eryxis. Do you have other files that are copyright protected recordings that you can play back? If so, you'll want to watch them first before you run the DRM reset tool otherwise you will no longer be able to view them.
no other DRM protected stuff. Also of note... DRM is the spawn of Satan. It's no wonder p2p is so popular...

I get the same thing on an older tv that's not HDCP compliant. If it's not part of your cable package, you'd get a Subscription Required message.

If the DRM reset tool does not resolve the issue, I'd verify that your motherboard's onboard hdmi is HDCP compliant as well as your TV and any device in between.
I read the MS link. I ran the test file, and it fetched an update for my DRM, then played the file. HBO is still showing Copying Prohibited. Do I still need to run the DRM reset if it's working for that test file?

I had this same problem when I first installed my Ceton card. I believe it ended up simply being a signal issue. What happens if you try tuning the channel from within the Ceton diagnostic tool? If you aren't even able to do that, I'd guess it's an issue on the provider's end and may require a phone call to fix. If it tunes okay there (as it did with me) try doing a direct connection from the wall jack to your Ceton card, if it is possible.

Like I said, this same thing happened to me at first, and once I removed a couple splitters and cleaned up my coax nest, signal strength improved (rather significantly, I might add), and I haven't seen that message since.

Hmmm... that reminds me of a sentence I had ignored... something about not using the coax out from the tuning adapter. Perhaps I can find a splitter for that.
