Denon AVR 791 & Wii - HELP

I'm a real rookie and new to this forum. Please be gentle.

Just got a Denon AVR 791 and was told it would upconvert from component to HDMI (need it for Wii). I have the 3 component cables hooked up in the assignable in jacks, but can't seem to get a picture. Can anyone help? Also, where do th additional two audio cables get plugged in?

Thanks for any help!!!

Welcome to AVS Forum ...

First off, there is a dedicated thread for your model ... Denon 791 Owner's thread where many of your setup questions will likely be answered already.

Yes, the 791 will upconvert analog to HDMI. Make sure the "i/p scaler" setting (p. 45) for the source name you use for the Wii is set to the default of either "analog" or "analog + HDMI" and not "HDMI" or "OFF." The component input (COMP1) is assignable to any source name, however, it defaults to SAT/CBL. If you want to use that name, then simply plug the red/white RCA audio cables into the analog inputs with the same name (ie. SAT/CBL), otherwise plug the analog audio cables into the source name you want to use as they are NOT assignable (ie. you have to use the name of the label on the analog jacks you plug into). So it's best to pick one of the analog jacks you want to use first and then assign the COMP1 input to that source name.

Thanks for the help. Got the video working, but with no sound yet. Any ideas? Red and white plugs are in the slots assigned to the Sat/Cable and that's the one I've renamed for the Wii with the component connection.

Make sure for the SAT/CBL source that HDMI is set to NONE.

DOH! The volume was not turned up high enough. Thanks for your help. Never would've figured out the i/p.

Yes ... average volume levels after running AUTO SETUP will likely be -30db to -20db for TV and maybe -20db to -10db for movies if you like them loud. I would suggest you change the Volume Limit setting (p. 57) from OFF to either -10db or 0db.
