September 5th.

Will it be better than the first CRAPPY UK Release?

Will it be region free?

DTS-HD?

Only time will tell.

One of the greatest movies ever made.

Great flick. I'm ready to see some bubble gum chewing and ass kicking in HD.
what was up with the UK release I know there was a reason I avoided it

You dirty motherf... best fight scene of all time!

After seeing how well the HD-DVD of The Thing transfered, I have high hopes for this! (Of course, the Blu-ray ended up needlessly filtered by comparison... )

Been waiting for this!

Definitely will have a spot in my very small and highly selective collection.

Rowdy Roddy is The Man!

Love this film. Carpenter's last good movie.

.

If it is the same as the Italian Blu-Ray that is already out then the answer to both of those is yes.

More good release news.

Mama don't like tattletales!
Apparently the Italian release still has the shifting aspect ratio at the start, so let's hope it isn't the same.

One of the HD broadcasts was constant OAR.

Wait, there's an italian BD out of "They Live"? Does it look good?

Spizz was going a little overboard considering the DTS-HD is only Italian, and it's locked to Regions BC according to that review.

Are you sure that the shifting aspect isn't correct? I believe that's the way the DVD is...(this doesn't make the DVD correct...just stating that that's what I'm used to).

I have a 4GB Copy of the HDTV airing of the They Live. I don't remember paying much attention to see if the aspect shifts or not. I can say that it certainly isn't an upscale, although there's been some obvious compression (and I'd say some DNR) applied. It looks much better than the DVD for sure, but the sound isn't as good as the DVD, sadly. So all in all, the DVD is the best way that I have to watch They Live, even with this HDTV broadcasting.

Mike -- The Former UK Release of They Live only saw a very few limited copies. I believe they were for demo purposes, or maybe just a small-scale release. Just like the original EFNY Optimum Release, it's just an upscale with tons of EE applied, so the disc is useless, and WORSE than the DVD...

The US release of EFNY is fantastic, even if its' a bit dark (not crushed). I'm hoping that this new version of They Live gets everything right, because it's seriously one of the best B-movies ever made. It's still relevant, too. Maybe even more so relevant than ever.

"They Live" is the last "AWESOME" John Carpenter movie. However, I'd say "Village of the Damned" is easily worth seeing and owning, and it's pretty much his best movie after "They Live." I have much reasoning for this!

Carpenter is a genius.

That's too bad. Thanks for the info. It sure looks good by the caps, though.

Thanks Spizz for getting my hopes up I would literally pay $50 for a good version of They Live on Blu-ray...seriously!

I just found out that "Phantom of the Paradise" is also awaiting on Blu-ray...Italian version. Supposedly, it's region-free, and it's got an English DTS-HD 5.1 track, if I'm not mistaken. Planning on buying that one soon.

Opps you are correct, but only slightly.

There was a English DTS-HD-MA track released on the now pulled UK version, so I am assuming that will make a return along with the fantastic picture from the Italian version.

Well, thankfully it was never released, it allegedly had the same problem as EFNY, I.E: Upscaled.

Search DVDActive for a review.

Awesome. If this has great picture and sound quality, it's going in the collection for sure. One of my favorite B movies, right up there with The Hidden.

Found this old behind the scenes clip on youtube

I always watch "They Live" together with "Big Trouble in Little China" as they fit VERY well as an double-feature

Are you saying there is a Director's Cut where he DOES have some chewing gum?

This is a great movie, definitely goes on my buy list.

Wouldn't be surprised if the government stepped in. Powerful message; powerful movie.

It could also be that the results were much like the first "release," to where it was completely sub-par. Hopefully when it is finally released, it's done right.
I was looking forward to finally replacing my old DVD with a shiny new blu of this. The wait continues.
Hmmm.. super lame!

At least it is on NetFlix instant stream. I just checked the site and it doesn't say it's in HD but when I watched in on NF a month or two ago it looked pretty good.
