Saying that, and looking at various bonded leathers i can tell you that there are some out there that look and feel exactly like leather, and I doubt that there are going to be too many people who would be able to tell the difference.
Sometimes I have a hard time telling the difference between leather, vinyl and bicast.
I aslo can say that statements like "Bonded or Bicast leather is crap." leaves me to believe that you are just denying the fact that technology progresses every day, and new products become better and better. More than that, the fact that the whole furniture industry is moving towards using bonded leather more and more is undeniable. Even Natuzzi, who is pure "leather guy" began using bonded leather today.
Yes, the price is a very strong factor that effects this, but quality that gets better and better with time is also contribute into the fact of choosing one material over another.
I don't deny that technology progresses. I would love to hear that bicast is getting better, but I haven't seen it. Of course, I don't rely on my personal observations. That is why I called Stahl and got their opinion. I haven't asked them about it, since the last time this came up. I did talk to someone at Clariant yesterday and he echoed what Stahl said. If anyone is going to know if this stuff has gotten better it is the chemical suppliers. As Milt said, this stuff is great for the chemical manufacturers since so much is used in the making of bonded leather.
Again, I do not have any scientific proof at this time, and I am not looking for one. But time will tell, and I can predict that bonded leather or similar man made material will replace leather in many cases...
As someone who sells this stuff, you should be looking for some kind of proof that this stuff lives up to its claims.
