Drama thriller written and directed by Jeff Nichols, and starring Michael Shannon.

Reviews for this are positive across the board. Here is an example:

Heard a lot of good things about this in Toronto. Didn't get a chance to see it, unfortunately.

Another good review, calling this an "American epic"

And another: http://www.filmschoolrejects.com/rev...ke-shelter.php

Take Shelter is a bruiser of a movie, one of those rare films that can deliver gut-punches over and over, but ones that leave a mark, no matter if they’re rooted in the “real” or not.

Full marks from Ebert: http://rogerebert.suntimes.com/apps/...IEWS/111009991

"This is masterful filmmaking."

Wow, what a shame this has seemingly slipped through the cracks. This is a masterful, intense slow-burn of a drama led by two excellent performances from Michael Shannon and Jessica Chastain. Shannon in particular is in stellar form, especially in the second half as events begin to unfold.

This is a must-see film.

This is a must-see film.

Couldn't agree more and it took both me and my wife by surprise. The acting is outstanding and Chastain is so believable as the devoted wife.

Watched this last weekend. What a great movie. Avoid spoilers if you can.

"if you can is" not an option. Avoid spoilers.

"F" me. I almost watched this Friday on Vudu, but I watched Drive instead. What a mistake. I will watch it next chance I get.

Did anyone else find themselves holding their breath in anticipation during the community luncheon outbreak? Good Lord that was intense. I have chills again just thinking about it.

Thanks for that. I almost rented "Drive" on VUDU as well, but passed. Maybe I'll give this one a go this weekend. I watch too much TV, so if the acting in this is as good as is being mentioned then that's half the battle.

Drive is worth seeing, just don't buy into the hype that it is the most amazing film or anything like that.

+1. It's still very good.

I don't regret the time I spent watching it, but I do regret it cost me $5.99.

I'm anxious to see Take Shelter.

The two male leads, Michael Shannon and Shea Whigham, are regulars in HBO's excellent 'Boardwalk Empire'.

watched this last nite. i guess it's not my cup of tea. i found it uncomfortable, awkward and slow. one of those 2 hour movies that felt like 3.

For some reason it was cool like Fraility to me.

You're not the only one. I felt it was way slow and although the leads did their job well, I was aching for the ending that really never came. I watched it twice, once alone and once with family & friends, the conclusion was unanimous.

Interesting. I guess it should be noted this is most definitely a drama.

Also of note is the fact that this is only the second film from Jeff Nichols (writer/director). Pretty crazy.

there are two endings one with him being crazy and one with him not

I realize it's a drama, I would have done it a little different..that's all.

Completely agree! A brilliant post-modern ending!

I saw this and liked it, too. It is a slow movie and it doesn't wrap everything up neatly, but those are actually what I like about it. It's different, and that can be polarizing.

Still think it's worth a shot if you're considering.

I waited quite a while for this to hit disk and was not disappointed .. an excellent film from start to finish .. if you are looking for an end of the World / disaster story that keeps you in the story, then this is it ..

Michael Shannon is in top form ..

You know what bugs me about Redbox? This movie's out of Blu-ray, but they only have the DVD in the kiosk. Same with J. Edgar.

Anyone who liked TS should see Shotgun Stories (his earlier film) even though it's just DVD. Nichols should have a strong career if people can find him.

It's amazing there's no thread for TS in the BD section - great film and excellent BD, but no interest. Too bad.
