Large/small setting and cross-over question

I have a simple setup with two front speakers, a center and two surrounds. No Sub. and do not plan to add one The two fronts are set to "Large" and the center and surrounds are set to "Small". I read somewhere in here that when a speaker is set to "Small", it is wise to set the crossover to around 80. The factory setting on mine is 20. Should I change it? Will I notice any real difference? I don't understand what crossover is and probably never will. My system is only going to be used for watching TV and some DVD's. I doubt that we will ever use it for music CD's. I am just trying to get good sound and sharp dialog.

What if I just leave all the speakers set to "Large" and forget the crossover? Will that make a difference?

Any suggestions would really be appreciated.

I"d try 80 Hz. Chances are slim that your center and surrounds are flat down to 20 Hz, so you're potentially losingcontent tha totherwise would be re-routed to your L&R speaker and blend just fine.

Conventional wisdom is...

You set the crossover for what your speakers can actually do.

What "low" frequency to do your center and surrounds produce? Whatever that is raise it to the nearest crossover up.

Meaning, if your rears say 57hz. Set the crossover at 60hz. If they are super tiny and only get to 120hz, set it there.

The center speaker is a Sony CR3000 and came as a set with two small surrounds (which I am not using at this time). The frequency response is 150 to 20,000 hz. Based on this would the crossover setting to 150?
