DVDs menu behavior

I have an old Sony DVD player from 2002.

I just rented 3 DVDs of the TV show Dexter from Blockbuster. When using these, if I pressed stop twice, and pressed Menu, the player would make a slight noise and then nothing would happen; however, when I pressed Top Menu, it would go to the menu. I've never seen that happen before. Also, if I pressed Play and then quickly pressed menu, it would go to the menu okay.

Also, in some cases, I selected an episode and it displayed the description of that ep. When I selected Play, the disc acted as if I'd pressed Stop twice.

This is probably because the discs were scratched; however, I've played dozens of scratched discs before and never had exactly the same problems. Plus, why would the three discs have the same problems? (They were discs 1-2 of Season 1 and disc 1 of Season 2.) And yes, I cleaned them.

I did try other discs and they were fine. Also, I had these problems on two different players. They are an old and new Sony player, bottom of the line. A movie rented from the same place also worked okay.

Have you seen anything like this before - what would cause it?

Usually, if a disk is scratched, it will suddenly jump from one place to another - it doesn't affect menus.

It sounds like the DVDs were authored incorrectly. I've run into this on several occasions but have never rented the titles you have. My guess is replacement titles may have the same problems, at least until the manufacturer figures out the mistake and corrects the discs. Of course unless they recall the discs(probably not likely unless they get tons of complaints) it might take some time for good discs to get in the system.

I just rented three movies for the TV series Dexter for the bomb. When Using this, if you press twice, and click on the menu, nothing Happen, however, when pressed on the top of the list, it moved to the list. I've never seen it happen before. Also, if you press play, and then Click on the list quickly,And then go to the menu.

I'm confused by this. For the bomb?

In general, what shocks me is that so many disks viewed by so many people could be authored wrong.

thats really annoying. I hate when that kind of thing happens on DVDs.
