Mede8er Announces MED500X2 - Page 9

yep, after I asked the question, I realized all the data is stored in individual folders instead of a "jukebox".

You can change the settings and make it save all the metadata in a "jukebox folder."

^ What gets saved the about.jpg or the xml file?

Right, but unlike PCH and Dune, the 450X2 & 500X2 aren't actually using what's in it. Rather, it's what Y2M uses to generate the about.jpg, folder.jpg and moviename.xml for each movie that get exported to that movie's folder.

The about.jpg for each movie is basically the fanart with the movie title and details burned in. With PCH and Dune, it's HTML (or Flash) & JPGs that get called in when you view the movie details. With Mede8er, the XML file for each movie is basically like the NFO & what Mede8er uses for searching by title, year, genre, etc.

^ Yes, Brajesh, good explanation. I have warmed up a bit to 450x2 because it plays most files and the UI is pretty darn responsive and I almost prefer the look to YAMJ/Eversion. I still don't like the issues with subtitles, LPCM audio and no aggregation but like everything with all these players there are compromises at this point. Since I wrote a Control4 IR driver and integrated it in that system I am enjoying it more.

What would be nice is to have a C4 two-way IP driver. Any takers? Since you can control it with a web interface, you can listen to the IP chatter via wireshark etc, and capture IP packets since I have not seen any published IP protocol for the mede8er.

New version of Y2M posted by Mede8er. Some improvements. Now if only it could support TV shows for X2 and the new X3, I wouldn't have to use ThumbGen.

Agreed. Getting fully functional TV show support would be icing on the cake

Not sure if I'm just missing it or what but is there an official thread for the 450X2?

500X2 and the 450X2 are the same thing. The only difference is that the 500X2 has room for an internal hard drive.

Ah, okay. Thanks. That answers my other question about whether this player can accept an internal drive. The literature says it can as does the box. I guess I will have to crack it open and take a look.

Ah hah. Don't really have any of those laying around but I hadn't planned to use internal anyway. I must say I hate the remote for this unit. It also gave me a message about unsupported format for the first two movies I tried to play. It will play them anyway and I figured out that this message must be referring to BD profile other than 1.0 which is all it will support. LOTR must be 1.0 because it played with full menus. The movie scaping features seem pretty complicated but I have never used anything but Zappiti so I don't have a lot of experience with these. I'm wondering if I should get my unraid server up and running before I bother to do any jukebox creation. I was reading that with this YAMJ to Mede8er software I will need to create a folder for each move in my collection. That is going to take forever.

A program like File2Folder will automatically create folders for you. YAMJ doesn't require individual folders but I think the YAMJ to Mede8er does. I am not a huge fan of YAMJ but it works for the most part

Well, that's a neat trick. Thanks!

I'm thinking I won't keep this player based on early impressions. Remote layout is poor, it seems to take a while to lock onto audio when changing streams to HD audio like DTS-MA or TrueHD. Those play fine bitstreamed to the receiver but there is a bit of delay before it kicks in. I noticed a few audio dropouts as well during movies. It's not night and day but the video quality seems a bit less sharp than my Dune player. The GUI has potential and I can see how putting some time and work into the jukebox would yield a better experience but I just don't think I want to invest the energy based on playback performance thus far. I can see this being a decent player for a bedroom or for travel since it's small but I don't see it replacing my Dune Base at all. I think I may try a Popcorn Hour player next.

What are you going to do with it? Sell it? How much?

Not sure. I almost want to wait until I get the unraid going before I blame all of my problems on the players. I'm thinking of doing that this weekend but I must admit I'm a bit intimidated by it. I have what I think is an operable machine with unraid installed so I'm hoping I just have to add drives and migrate all my data over to them. I borrowed a 3TB external drive to facilitate that process as I don't have any extra internal drives laying around to do the shuffling.

I moved this player to the downstairs plasma TV in the den and watched a movie last night. I thought the video quality was much better on the plasma than it was on my projector. For the projector I think I still prefer the Dune.

Cranked up this little player last nice for the first time in weeks. Having a problem locating my server share for movies. I can see other client computers on the network from the Mede8er but not my unRaid server. Other players were seeing it fine. What am I missing?
